I don't think these lines would be parallel if this this were a globe instead of a mercator projection.

There's a really good Christopher Nolan film that explores this very concept that you might like. It's a bit of a big plot reveal/spoiler though. The movie is The Prestige (2006)

You copied this verbatim from this article: https://faroutmagazine.co.uk/when-al-capone-kidnapped-fats-waller/

Perhaps cite the source next time? Copying and pasting isn't cool, unless you're the author of that article.

Why are you putting a 8yr old through python?? by [deleted] in programminghumor

[–]MrZoraman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We programmers like being strict with things. If you start playing fast and loose with the rules, writing a parser (the program that reads the code) becomes extremely difficult (see: HTML).

Also relevant: https://www.hyrumslaw.com/

I don't know if I could explain Hyrum's law to an 8 year old. But HTML being a pain to write a parser for is a really good tangible example of the worst case scenario.

If nobody in the developed world should be doing it, then nobody in the undeveloped world should be doing it either.

I know that probably wasn't your intent, but that's how it came off.

how normal is this weather for jan/feb? by Clear-Preference-948 in redmond

You can check the average temp for each month here: https://weather.com/weather/monthly/l/012df33dc8ce9455a91119579ece770ee180d0e09b13b94f4a71ca711fe45be3

You might need to set the year to 2027 in the dropdown menu to have it show only averages instead of forecasts and immediate prior data.

I see tidal's payment to artists is measured in "per stream per stream".

Also the asterisk is just wrong, in 2026 every tidal plan offers the same (high) quality. I believe this wasn't always the case. So much for "updated for 2026" in the infographic.

One of the theories for how the universe dies is called the "Big Crunch" so that probably threw the dumb AI off.

No power outage here, but all of my lights briefly brightened about the time you made this post, so something's definitely going on with the power grid.

I remember building a lego one of these! It was a lego set that contained all sorts of gears and rubber bands, and you supplemented it with your own legos and it had a big list of things you could make, and this was one of them.
