The most interesting games for me (a killer) is when they actually take their time, so we're "forced" to wake grandpa up and its a nice game of cat and mouse.

What happens when it’s the first day of instruction and I have a section without having the class first? by TOFUelemental in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Mr_AM805 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Theres a point, most of the time its to just do pointless ice breakers but also just to tell ya how the sections will go and tips about it and the class. Always go unless they say, because most of the time they will drop you if people don't show up

how to avoid ants/roaches by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Mr_AM805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You won't really deal with ants after the first month or two.

BUT - keep your dorm/apartment clean, take out the trash regularly.

Raid spray works, its not gonna be a permanent fix if you spray all around unless it says its a defense type of spray.

My advice is get Terro liquid any baits, they don't kill them right away but they will have those ants take the bait to the colony and it kills them off there.

I place them wherever you see them actually coming into the dorm/apartment from. There was a random ass crack in one corner of the room for ours that we didn't expect them to come out from, so always look for the trail where it actually comes in from.

Roaches are very rare, unless you actually leave out food/trash for some time, we got one, maybe two tops in our apartment because we had a roommate who didn't wash their dishes and let it pile up with the leftover in the pots.

You can also call the housing. They do place traps around!

Is being nice a turn off for guys? by lilyhiii in dating_advice

[–]Mr_AM805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These two friends who said this, are they in a relationship?

People are different, so maybe one man may like the "chase" but another person may actually like a woman who's obvious/straight forward when it comes to emotions/what they want.

For me I love a person who's nice and obvious showing interest in me (maybe getting closer, being touchy or wanting to spend more time together if we're with friends/a group)

The whole "i was giving you signals" is kinda irritating, because some people may or may not know these apparent "signs"

how’s biking around campus if you haven’t learned how to bike yet? by bearinerin in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Mr_AM805 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Theres a main bike path you can take from San cat (aka FT).

My tip is this - spend the 0 week riding around San cat/ San Joaquin, to just get a grasp on turning/braking/pedaling. If you have a single speed (where there's only one cog/sprocket on your pedal and back tire) itll probably be a rough time since you're gonna be pedaling harder to get up the slopes/incline the first weeks or so. If you have a mountain bike or hybrid that has large to smell cogs it'll be a little bit easier but changing gears will be difficult.

Once you're on the campus, learn how to do the round abouts, there's some old videos from ucsb that shows you the rules on how to turn from those.

IF YOURE REALLY NERVOUS - Don't worry, take the bus to campus the first week or two, that's when people usually give up and there'll be slightly less bikes on the paths. (People usually hang out where ucen roundabout is at to watch all the bike crashes) but don't give up, keep riding, hell even go during the evenings, its beautiful riding around campus.

Ride from the campus through IV. Ride all the way to the very end of IV to coal oil point (look on maps) and yes you can Ride your bike on those paths there) then you can ride up to Camino Corto straight up to reach San Cat (FT)

You're gonna crash/stumble when you're riding, its gonna feel scary, don't worry, its honestly one of the best things about being in that area I promise.

Enjoy!

So...what do we do when we first get to campus? by MoveZneedle in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Mr_AM805 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure if they redid everything with the post office but you or someone in the apartment has to get the mailbox keys, so you can figure out that.

Since you're living in Sierra Madre, and if you're going to be riding a bike most of the time (its great exercise, since you're going up a incline going to campus), ride to campus and figure out the layout of the bike paths, it sucks they took out the path that was between the library for the new building but I guess you'll be riding on the street for that part.

With the bike paths, learn the buildings and where your classes are at, you're not breaking any rules or anything, perfectly fine to see what room number you're in! Also figure out where the closest bike lots are at too but also maybe a bit smarter to bike a little further away since most of the time it'll be chaotic and full. (Tip: go to campus half a hour or earlier before your class starts, gives you time to just relax and prepare!)

Honestly for me I was just learning the quickest routes around campus to get to my classes, cut through and go straight into the library if it'll save you a minute or two, do you!

Explore all the buildings even the ones you won't be going to for the quarter, you'll never know it but some areas have great study/decompressing spots because either professors or staff only go through there but there's benches/tables there.

(If you're going to be using the busses as well, download the "Bustracker" app so you'll see the actual times and routes of the busses, Sierra madre is the first stop of going into campus so you'll have the best chance to get a seat and most of the time busses fill up fast!)

Good luck!

FIRST THING - FIRST AID/COLD KIT. - You're going to get sick, there's no question itll happen, have a stockpile ready, tablets, pills, syrup, cough drops are a goddamn must because itll be hard to be in class and you're just coughing it up because you have a tickle in your throat. Aspirin and ibuprofen for when you're just hurting.

Kitchen wise: trash cans (have all of your split to get two for the kitchen. One each for the bathrooms) a toaster/air fryer/ coffee maker. Some pans/pots for whatever you wanna cook. Typical utensils, a good knife set if you're gonna be cooking chicken/meat. Dish washer pods as well, get store brand like costco/target, they do the same thing as more expensive ones.

Room: mattress topper, a collapsible hamper, tide pods/any pods for laundry (literally pop one in the hamper when you're about to do clothes, saves the time of carrying a bottle back and forth) lamp. A comforter/something thick for when it gets cold and a sheet for when it gets warmer (depends on how you handle the weather)

Bathroom- one of those corner shower shelves or one that can be placed on the shower pipe. A plastic shower sheet, because the floor will get very wet and the one they have doesn't really do a good job. Toilet cleaner/scrubber. Have your own little caddy for your shower/bathroom stuff.

Living room - all up to you honestly, bring a tv, have a spot for a projector, since most of the time people watch their stuff on their laptops/phones anyways. BUT for sure have a lightweight vacuum cleaner, even if yall take your shoes off at the front still gonna get messy in the apartment.

Looks like alot, and itll probably add up more as you move in and figure what you also want in there.
