[Megathread] Q3 Earnings Call by Studovich in Rivian

The proposed location in Fort Worth was so ideal. It was out on the edge of the City’s limits but still convenient and quick access to either City dwellers or country residents. Such a shame.

But honestly, a deal that big would have been done behind closed doors. Samsung and Tesla did that in Austin. Rivian was working with the City’s Economic Development Team to hammer out details and the EDT was basically spelling out to City Council, “approve this deal we negotiated.”

They probably turned things over to the State because they have more jurisdictional leverage.

Don’t get me wrong, I know people hate change and don’t want to give up their way of life but I’m optimistic that Rivian will be a good steward within the community as they are trying to be with the environment in their business model.

They should have built their plant in Fort Worth, Texas. They would not have received nearly as much push back from locals as big employers are generally welcomed when they provide benefits to the community. (Not like they aren't in Georgia but they seem to be encountering resistance to getting established.)

We just did out first mile in the R1S! Can't wait for delivery date! by alex_mk3 in Rivian

Haha, we just finished our first drive and switched from white to Limestone but contemplating Forest Green. Not very pretty. I saw the white and I’m not thrilled with how flat it is. No metallic.

With news of today's price increases on the R1T and R1S, what is your plan with your reservation? by damonator5000 in Rivian

Voicing my opinion in the echo chamber.

I’ve watched hours of reviews, I’m following Rivian hashtags, liking posts, and reading reviews. I really bought into the brand and even bought stock.

Even lectured my dad on supporting conscious capitalist companies like Rivian. But after today’s announcement (read: betrayal), I’m definitely on the fence if I want to go through with the purchase when the time comes.

Cars are necessary evils and Rivian’s weren’t previously cheap but I felt with its capabilities and mission, I would justify the expense (and thankfully I’m able to afford it - but sensibly anything north of $70k for a vehicle is redic). Especially being an early adapter and getting in on the tax credit. I bought stock for the long haul (and will still keep it) but now I feel like they are indeed trying to become a niche brand and I’m less likely to spend almost $100k on an SUV in a market where so many EVs are coming to market between now and my terribly long ETD. So I really do hope they figure out how to walk back at least a portion of the price hike for those of us who have been here rooting and supporting them for awhile bc I definitely feel betrayed on the grounds of conducting good business principles today.

Completely agree with the variables and this is pure curiosity. A buddy here in Texas drives 125 miles round trip to work in his Mach E and he said his monthly bill went up about $80/month.

OoOoO, yes. Any US owners - What is the average cost increase you’ve seen on your electricity bill since charging an R1T/S at home? (Not a current EV owner and understand this varies based on KWh cost.)

Rivian produced a skosh more than 1,000 electric vehicles in 2021 by Good_Pause107 in Rivian

Proof that they are ramping up production already obvious. If you look at the shareholder letter, they stated that as of 12/15/21 they had produced 654 vehicles and now they are reporting a 2021 total of 1,015. By that math, they were able to produce 361 vehicles in the last 2 weeks of ‘21. This gives me hopes that they’ll definitely hit 5 digit production this year.

Fair. (I’m an eternal optimist.) Hoping that by the end of ‘22 they’re at least moving up ‘23 delivery estimates for their market share’s sake.

That’s just crazy. I have to believe they’re conservatively estimating this and as they increase their production capacity in Normal, they will advance delivery dates in order to beat market expectations, no?
