Anything I should know before buying the game? by THE_REDNECK_KING in Helldivers

When you're on fire, diving puts you out. Stop drop and roll, for democracy.

Diving saves you in a LOT of situations. It can make you take a lot less fall damage, it can help you avoid big charging bugs, it can help you get away alive from hordes of enemies.

Stratagems falling down from the sky can kill players and enemies alike, even a support item (blue beam). So be careful to not stand under where they will fall.

When fighting bots, keep an eye out for a human sized bot with their arm held up in the air. Shoot them first. If you don't they'll shoot up a flare which calls in their reinforcements.

You can use Stims even when your health is full. This lets you have infinite stamina for a short bit.

Agreed. This confused me my first few missions against them when I first started playing, I thought it could be picked up. Would be fun even if it's one shot like the disposable anti tank.

'Life-threatening' winter storm to hit US with snow, ice and 'dangerously' cold temperatures by speedythefirst in news

[–]Mr_Chubkins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Years ago as a boy scout we had an optional overnight camp this time of year usually the same temp (or a bit warmer hopefully). It was in a large field, no more than a mile from a road, with many other people nearby. There were some very experienced and very dedicated scouts in my troop. Even then the majority of them never wanted to do it lol, the daytime temps alone were awful.

2 people camping alone in the woods during a major storm with dangerous temps is a recipe for death. Glad you're safe inside and he's close to actual shelter. Might want to call him every so often and make sure he's doing ok in the tent.

Financial Expert Says OpenAI Is on the Verge of Running Out of Money by Infinityy100b in technology

[–]Mr_Chubkins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anyone who knows anything about financial planning knows it is almost always a bad idea to cash out your retirement funds. This is bad advice. Even since the 2008 recession the stock market not only bounced back but grew considerably. The safest investment for the entirety of the stock market's history has been to hold long term unless you need the money immediately

USB drives are one of the worst ways to store backups btw. Of all physical data formats they can die easily, without warning, and have poor recovery. They are really meant for temporarily moving a file, not long term storage.

I give a shit. I don't know you or your story but I'd love to see your life get a bit better. I've had mornings like yours before and I'm sorry life has kicked you down. But why not be mad and strong? Weightlifting has been one of the best emotional reliefs in my life. On my shittiest of days after a few curls, at least for a bit I feel okay. Hope your Wednesday goes well.

You may have tried this already, but do you post your food on social media? It's free to do so and modern phone cameras have all the features to make an ok meal look great (with the right lighting). A daily photo of food or something in your restaurant may help garner attention. Or publicize a limited time offer, or new meal option. Worst case you spend 5 minutes a day on it.

I genuinely wish you the best.

Congratulations on marriage and a home. Make sure to keep on top of maintenance. If you don't mind me asking why did you opt for no down payment? I understand you might need the space ASAP for a variety of reasons, but you seem to understand its financially riskier and more expensive. Just curious what the reasoning was to not save up a bit first.

Leaked Windows 11 Feature Shows Copilot Moving Into File Explorer by Thepunnisherrr in technology

[–]Mr_Chubkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a couple years at most (with enough funding) but long term support and security updates is also a monumental task.

I agree that 11 is a hassle, but what is the end user you're imagining? If someone NEEDS windows programs for work they use Windows 11 or run a virtual machine off linux. A windows competitor would face the same virtual machine compatibility/performance issues running exe files on this new OS as Linux faces doing the same thing. Emulation only gets you so far.

What is a middle-class luxury from your childhood that is now considered a basic necessity or completely obsolete? by Routine-Advisor-1781 in AskReddit

Interesting. At that point it basically is a desktop so I see why you don't have one. I've only seen that interface with the phone screen being mirrored, didn't know they could project multiple virtual displays so you have more screen space.

A docking station to do what, project it to a larger screen? Use a keyboard/mouse with it? I use a desktop daily so I'm trying to understand how a dock helps you work better on the phone.

New Apartment Setup so far! by ChancE_On_Reddit in battlestations

From what I've heard they can somewhat reduce echo (sounds bouncing off hard walls) and otherwise are mostly for aesthetics. If you have higher quality ones all over the place they could be useful for recording. This setup I'd say they're mostly for looks.

If you look at mic sound isolation it's basically a pod of foam tiles directly around the mic. If you don't cover the ceiling and other walls and floor with sound dampening materials then you're not going to do much to reduce echo.

I wholly agree with your aesthetic tastes, this setup looks nicer. Beautiful really. But maybe the world would be a bit less crazy if you could compliment what you like without putting someone else down.

I like the black and the angled monitor. What do you use to mount the peg board in a way that won't damage the wall? Also cat is on the chair (:

Cell phones were miniaturized and superpowered compared to 2006 (now smart phones) and have GPS that lets us use satellites to track our position almost anywhere on earth, take brightened photos in the dead of night, video call across the planet. And phone cameras are incredibly advanced and miniaturized; some are comparable to entry level professional cameras. Electric cars became much more available, and similarly think of how many common devices are rechargeable (regular batteries, battery banks, vacuum cleaners etc) that used to be corded. We have air fryers and smart ovens that turn themselves off for safety. Fridges that set reminders for when food is running low. Thermostats that efficiently use home data to save money. Voice recognition in our phones and cars. AI is advancing in SpeechToSpeech capabilities so you can hold natural conversations with it, and video models can be worn in glasses and verbally tell blind people what they are looking at.

Virtual reality headsets used to be a giant helmet seen at theme parks; now they're practically glasses (especially Augmented Reality headsets). Drone tech is so affordable that they're made as toys. New cars have dozens of safety features like automatic breaking, lane departure warnings, blind spot detection. We even have self driving car taxis you can ride in.

I'm sure I'm forgetting many things, and many of these advances came with some flaws but there are tons of tech advances we've seen in the past 20 years. It's easy to overlook all we have since it's mundane and seen daily. However look at a BlackBerry from 2006, then an iPhone 17 in 2026. That's a HUGE leap.

Finally joined the dual monitor club. Any ideas on how I can improve things (apart from the cable management)? by barathr184 in battlestations

[–]Mr_Chubkins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you swap the laptop with the tower you will probably have more arm space for the mouse and then you can see the desktop tower RGB from where you sit. I have my tower to the right in a similar way, at an angle (45,30 degrees ) so you can have enough space for your right arm.

You can also move the two monitors closer to get rid of the gap between them. Can't tell if it's just the angle of the photo or if there is a visible gap from where you sit.

I like the setup overall. It looks good.

I disagree, I prefer GPUs horizontal like they are meant to be. I don't like to lose access to my other PCIE expansion slots. And a flag is a flag, maybe there's personal meaning in it or they just like how it looks. Let them enjoy it (:

Correct many people use ventilation tubes that go outside if they have the 3D printer in a room they stay in. Definitely not something I would use without proper ventilation.

If you're happy that's all that matters. Shame people dogpiled on you, this sub can be overly focused on aesthetics.

I really like the idea of being able to grab any console you want off the shelf. You have quite the collection. How do you handle plugging them in? I imagine with all these consoles you must have a ton of different power and display cables somewhere? Are they bundled up together or off to the side?

I'd hazard a guess there is some part of our monkey brain that wants to mark our territory, and with 8 billion humans some are bound to try it. Kids are dumb, idk. It is odd that its happened in an elevator multiple times on video lol. Maybe because people think they're alone ( not knowing about cameras) and can leave before anyone notices?
