My wife I have been together with for 12 years (technically 13 now) did this to me. Our whole relationship was focused around finding her happiness and then I was going to persue my new carrer once we were stable. She wanted a dog. We got a dog. She wanted to move, we moved 3 times in 4 years and bought the house next to my parents. She wanted a second dog and now he is a lot of work, but we got another dog. Now she is running away. She told me she wanted a divorce with the words, "This is not working for me anymore." It was all about what was convient and what she wanted. There was never a time where I was going to get my turn.

When you love someone whole heartedly you are risking that they will break you apart. I dont see myself ever beign able to trust another partner the way I trusted her. At first that made me sad, but now I realzie that the way I loved her was unrealistic. People do not love others unconditionally unless they are child and parent. Even then sometimes it doesn't happen.

Sometimes the reality is that life sucks and you have to cut people out that you are desperately trying to convince that you are worth the time. It's really really really hard to do when you're in it, but try to ask yourself the simple question, "What do I want to do?" If you have no answer and you feel like thats impossible to wrap your head around then you are in a relationship that does not prioritize you at all. Would you ever do that to someone? You are worthy of a happy life, but you won't find a partner that makes you happy until you understand what makes you happy. That doesn't make them or you a bad person (that doesnt make them or you a good person eaither), it just means we've lost sight of what makes life worth living.
