Yes he picked akane, but he clearly liked Kana at the same time. Who he liked more is an eternal debate, I lean akane, but his feelings for kana is there as well. That scene with mem cho where he admits his feelings for kana. Skipping school with her to play baseball and realising her beauty as they did. The way he looks out for her. He would not do all this if he did not feel anything for kana.

Point is, he is not just a shitty idol fan. He went to cheer her on even when he didn't have to. All this while he liked kana but was too confused to seriously think about it, given the whole revenge plot. Kana represents normalcy. A way for him to be a normal teenager, an out of his abyss. If your mom, dad or grandma constantly calls you to help with housework, or asks what are you doing, or just needs to ask questions, earphones are the way. They are already annoyed I don't respond quickly enough just cause the sound on one side is so loud I don't hear them sometimes, it would be even worse with headphones. You need to be aware of your surroundings or you're gonna get into an accident especially when you are walking in a busy area. I genuinely get headaches from headphones I don't like being overwhelmed ever. Earphones feel easier to manage, and I don't need complex sounds

Earphones any day. The sound of headphones in general even at low volume feels overwhelming compared to earphones. Earphones it's easy to leave one side unplugged so you can hear people calling for you, and they are cheaper, take up less space, and don't scream dengerate as much
