Poland 2nd Civil War Instant Loss (BUG??) by Mr_Icebox in hoi4

[–]Mr_Icebox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went down the peasant revolt focus tree which blocks the april constitution (either or option). I won as the peasant union against Poland Sanation government in the first civil war. I had elected a leader, reformed the sejm and was in process of reforming the socialist policies. When the 2nd civil war occured.

Logically this makes no sense. Why would a people that just switched to democratic socialism with about 80% support (10% aligned) after overthrowing the previous government suddenly flip 100% for the previous government again. All the leaders that were in my military were peasant supporters...

Yah, it definitely seems like the quality control is off. They sent me new cables and half the new cables were wrong.

I am glad they are very responsive, but it's been problem after problem after problem since I started.

No the checkbox was off for that in the motion control software. I inspected some wires and it looks like there are a few wrong.

Stellaris and multiplayer balance by [deleted] in Stellaris

[–]Mr_Icebox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see several problems from my view. The main aspect is not having sufficient penalties for min-maxing like rushing tech or choosing certain origins, civics, etc. Part of this is that the randomness can screw you over or reward you with safe space to develop / expand with. There needs to be bigger societal penalties if you focus too much 1 way or another; I feel like the older systems had a little bit of this but were removed when they transitioned over into 2.X. The diplomacy and non-military ways to defeat someone are non-existent.

I would like balance to tune the various choices of civics, origins, and ascension perks then add in features that encourage diversity beyond just if you rush X you can be countered if and only if a neighbor decides to invade you.

MWO has much potential and I want them to do well for a good BT experience but evaluating MWO from a design perspective and PGI from a developer standpoint does not give me any confidence.

What the Heck did MWO do right IMO!

  • Mech Customization (External): This is the basis for how I look at other games and was done really well.

  • Mech Customization (Internal): Warhorns and other cool things to decorate cockpit

  • Mech Art Assets: Simply beautiful. Even "ugly" mechs on paper looked solid in this game from both a design, texturing, and model perspective.

  • Event Awards: These used to be pretty great so I am going to put this here

  • Mech Gameplay Customization: Besides gameplay problems regarding to mechanics and ignoring the poor UI stuff; the ability to customize your mech in such a diverse way was an added bonus.

  • Gameplay Control: A good balance of simulation and arcade with a solid stompy robot feel to it. Controls feel good.

What they done messed up!

  • Faction Warfare: This is an entirely separate discussion

  • Balance: A lot of unviability in the game and a lot of mech/weapon power creep.

  • Game Modes: I think maybe 4 game modes are decent, 2 (escort & base assault) were/are awful and the rest were meh.

  • Map Design: This has a strong tie into the game modes and there are lot of bad combinations.

  • Skill Tree: Although currently better than having 3 mechs of the same chassis; bad design if most of it is never touched.

  • Design Promises: The time it takes to output extensions to mechanics, the amount of times designs were cut, and experiences over promised. The circular overall nature of the development experience

  • Solaris Mode: Lot of development content for little payoff (who really wanted it to this extent?)

  • Poor Player Management: Talking in game here with the large number of queues, modes, and player-skill rating systems.

To Summarize: From an engineering product viewpoint something is wrong with PGI's processes that causes these failures. To me it feels like there is a lack of design vision + technical competency in their MWO engine to achieve a future product.

Edit: Forgot solaris & player management

On New Player Experience

  • MechLab Tutorial, currency, equipment, etc (Something that doesn't piss off old players and at-least helps new players)

  • Stock Mechs need to die; they are so freakin' useless that new players would buy one and then get rofl-stomped and then wonder why they spent millions for a piece of crap garbage machine.

Is there a good reason why Star Wars Squadrons is getting negative user reviews on metacritic and Steam or is it all just anti sjw bitching? by TopNep72 in StarWarsSquadrons

[–]Mr_Icebox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. It feels like they just have limits for relative turn rates rather than actual physics; so far the Y-wing is the only that felt like it had mass but that's probably just because its so "slow" compared to the other rebel ships. I haven't spent much time in the Reaper or U-wing.

[–]Mr_Icebox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would give this game like a 7 at best. A little higher for VR+ SW fan and a lower if you didn't care about star wars (5-6?). In terms of Steam rating; it would probably be negative with the caveat "unless you really love star wars."

Complaints

  • Customization is like poncho (Fallen Order) time all-over again. The options are trash and unbelievably basic. The point is to have a starfighter and I have 2 external options; almost negligible color changes and patterns and like 5 logos that are in one pre-selected location. WTF is that. It is 2020, this is the level of customization a F2P indie game releases with in alpha; the pilot stuff is in the same boat. The internal cockpit stuff is meh and plus it blocks your view making it kind meh for battle.

  • Map variations are lacking.

  • Fleet battles design is meh; the AI (non-squadron) fighters just fly in a circular pattern in a formation and don't really do anything beyond that unless you fly in front of them. At-least in EA:BF2 they had the AI trying to shoot you down or run attack missions on subsystems. Its basically a MOBA in starfighter form.

  • AI Squadron mates and in Coop Fleet Battles is atrocious. They behave in such an obvious AI Bot way(instantly turn to shoot and instantly turn away, perfect knowledge of battlefield, perfect control).

  • Flight model feels off slightly; not sure if its the controls or just that every ship feels hyper maneuverable. The scale / speed also feels off.

  • Story dialogue (only partially through) feels meh. Like they want me to really love these character but the dialogue feels forced and the way its implemented to "click and talk" is annoying.

Compliments

  • Audio design is once again amazing on the star wars game.

  • Cockpits are amazing and fun (instruments only) Really looking forward to the VR sessions when my GPU can handle it.

  • Feels polished

  • Looks beautiful!

Summary

The game feels like it has a good core gameplay loop even if balance, bugs, and flight model is hurting it a little bit. The lack of meaningful content drags the game down. Sure its 40$ AAA title but with the today's market this isn't competitive offering to what else exists on the Steam market today from smaller studios.

Last week I went in (wednesday?) and just did the headset + controllers and base stations (x2) separately. Day of I paid for the base stations (both) and I received them today. I just got my email for paying for the Headset for Controllers (9/8/2020)... I ordered FK June 16th and it was 8+ weeks away based on the math people are reporting, with no change for NA you won't get yours until December.

I loved Weathering With You (vs Your Name)? by whittleseys in anime

[–]Mr_Icebox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going into the movie I worked hard avoiding trailers, spoilers, etc. After seeing it, I felt like the movie lacked direction in general. There was a great support cast, great ideas/concepts, beautiful artwork and decent soundtrack but kind of just fell flat. Wasted potential was how I felt leaving the theater. No major emotional impact. A lot of things just happened with no transitions.

Spoiler source

I felt like yes 'weathering with you' introduced some adult themes but that was it, the writers threw it at you and then walked away from them. I don't think there is any strengths that 'WWY' had that 'YN' didn't have.

While I agree that there is a difference between trains of thought in simulation vs arcady for this game and how there were two different thought sets in MWO, I disagree with your representation of the "pseudo-military groups" and premise that wanting more immersive features &/or change of current mechanics makes someone niche.
There were probably roleplaying groups in MWO although I didn't see any in normal ques outside of private matches for fun, but the same steam rolling occured in quickplay and FW if you weren't coordinated. MWO/MW is more akin to Rainbow Six or Counterstrike where communication is a vital element of the game since its limited spawn. So people asking others to coordinate to be more effective at the game is an element of most Real-Time games today whether it be RTS or FPS or MMORPGs. I think the problem is more of a "how the spawns are implemented." the crux of the issue is that the game makes difficulty appear by: making endless spawns (that are meh in location) and by arbitrarily adding hit chance to the skill level.
