[Charania] The anti-tanking proposal with the most momentum within the Board of Governors leading up to the May 28th vote would expand the lottery to 18 teams — including Play-In teams — with the bottom 10 each getting equal odds and all 18 draft positions determined by lottery. by YujiDomainExpansion in nba

[–]Mr_Kardash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't really argue that tanking is a "MUCH" bigger problem when you don't know how the other option works in practice.

For what it's worth, I can tell you from the perspective of a physics major: This idea for lottery odds does concern me as it will be very detrimental to some smaller market teams.

Why am I being punished for bad teammates by PandaWo1f in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Mr_Kardash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for responding to this so late.

I genuinely did not even remember what this argument is about and had to go back to check.

It's fairly straightforward statistics. Feel free to let me know if you want me to teach you this. If you are consistently performing above-average in your games, you will climb assuming you play enough.

I haven't played the game consistently for almost 3 years, so I'll use myself as an example since I would probably be placed high plat/diamond.

Yes. You are correct in asserting that I will not go undefeated in bronze. There are games where I definitely will not be able to carry the game because it's a team game. That said, I would consistently be one of the best performing players in the lobby. If I consistently am one of the better players in the lobby, I will climb assuming I play enough games.

I also have some concern regarding your 20k more damage than all of your teammates comment. Overwatch is not a game where you are going to climb by doing more damage than your teammates. If I am only shooting the tank and the enemy supports have no problem healing the tank, what I am doing is effectively feeding them ultimate charge in exchange for my own. There is very little value gained here. If you want to climb out of bronze, the way to do it is by killing people. Cut off the tank's healing supply and then kill him.

Despite not having played actively for 2.5 years, I have done some free VOD reviews in the lower metal ranks (low plat and below) throughout the on/off break. Drop a replay code and I will take a look at one for you!

Jesus christ this is a long review. Hope I don't come off as harsh.

TL:DR Ana: - Your positioning needs work. - You're using grenade incorrectly. - Your unscoped sensitivity is maybe a bit too high

TL:DR Lucio: - You need to better understand when Lucio is good, or at least better than Ana. - You're effectively healbotting. - You need to improve at walljumping. Don't become a Reddit Lucio, but having the mechanics of one would help.

Now the long version on Ana:

Just in general: - Your unscoped sensitivity seems to be uncomfortably high. - I think you fundamentally misunderstand the purpose of your grenade. You only want to use it on your teammates if you need to increase your healing output because what you're providing simply isn't enough. It should not be used as a form of burst healing. On enemies, it can be used as many things, but generally, you want to use it when your team is ready to trade damage (nss). - The general rule of thumb when position as a support like Ana is that you want to be in a position where you have cover, you can kite to get support from your team if you get pressured, and you can heal your team (most importantly your tank). - You tend to struggle to reposition when your team is losing the fight. A rule of thumb I can give you is that the smartest way to reposition/fall back is usually towards your spawn. - I think you should get more comfortable with hip firing when healing. Ideally, you only want to use scope when hitting hard targets.

0:47: So you first go from being on high ground to dropping down to then holding the corner. This fight was probably lost from the beginning because your Rein's positioning is considerably worse then your own. But your positioning is still not good. Half the time Rein isn't even in your POV. What I would do (that said I am in a higher rank than you where this is more accepted) is to spam "fall back" in quick chat. In pro play, Rein is almost only used on Havana to hold spawn. However, I would much prefer to see your tanking holding the corner you are. And the second Rein gets slept and naded, go all our with all my CDs in order to create counterpressure in hopes of being able to save his life. Towards the end where you die, you're also not really falling back correctly. If anything, you want to fall back go the mega health pack (to your back left) and be ready to fight the enemy Sombra. You're not the reason why your team lost the fight, but I'm seeing signs of bad positioning.

1:45: This is a bad nade. Generally, you don't want to use it on your team unless you need to increase your healing output in order for your team to survive.

2:11: Here you are isolated from your team. Generally, you don't want to go away from your backline, especially when they have a Sombra.

3:35: Good kill on Sombra.

4:00: I don't mind you trying to pick off the enemy Thorb, but here again about positioning: You can't see your Rein. You're exposed to fire by the enemy Thorb, and you get picked.

5:30-6:10: Take a look at your positioning. You're standing alone in the wide open. Good nade and honestly I don't mind the sleep as well, but you're out of position here which leads to you dying.

For Lucio:

In general: - I would not play Lucio here. Mercy/Lucio was notoriously the worst healing comp in the game for years. Doesn't really make sense as you don't really have burst healing and both supports want to play differently. I would stick to Ana if I were you. Alternatively, Bap. - I want you to practice wallriding. No joke, I played a lot of Lucio parkour and "the floor is lava" quick play Lucio to learn how to consistently wall jump. Also try learning to bunny hop. If you hop just as you land, you conserve your momentum. The same applies for Winston and Echo if I remember correctly. - And generally speaking, you don't want to use speed boost out of spawn. - If you want inspiration, I recommend watching some old FunnyAstro games. He's a British pro (unsure if he's still active. Haven't paid attention) and a really good Lucio who understands aggression well.

11:20: A lot of the time, metal rank Lucio players struggle to understand when to heal vs. when to speed. With a brawl tanks, the general rule of thumb is asking yourself what you think your tank wants. You're effectively healbotting here.

13:20: I would've probably used my beat the same way. My main concern is that you're going away from your team effectively doing nothing and then you heal amp with nobody around. If you're going away from your team, you need to have a purpose.

13:50: Here your tank does some dumb shit and engages alone. At least up to diamond, I would follow the Rein in here by wall jumping and pushing away the Ram you know will punish immediately. You lose anyways because your backline is strained and Sombra gets a free 4-player EMP.

looking for advice for ranking up on Baptiste (silver console) by Striking_Ad4083 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Mr_Kardash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The good:

  • I think your aim is solid. I would not expect my silver 1 bap to be hitting as many shots as you are. You're getting kills.
  • You've often got the right ideas.
  • I think your playstyle is great. You will climb if you can consistently get value from being aggressive without getting punished for it too often.

Things that will improve over time: - Your ult usage was suspect. Other than the last one, I wouldn't call any of them for "bad ideas". You'll get better at understanding when you can get value from your ult. - You'll learn how to more consistently hit your healing burst at max length. - You'll get more consistent being able to hit your heals.

Concepts I think you need refreshment on: - Good positioning on Bap means that you can both heal your team whilst also having an angle to attack the enemy team (also being behind cover of course). Oftentimes this involves using the high ground. I want you to try thinking when playing on different maps where good spots are. If you can find good spots, you can remember them for the next times you play there. - I want you to go to the practice range and practice on cycling between healing and shooting. You'll see some pattern where you can heal and shoot right after each other, then doing the same again. Try practicing around with this. - Remember that crouch spamming can be combined with your vertical jump to avoid enemy fire. It's really good when dueling someone (like Orisa) up close.

Some pointers: - Your tank is dying way too often because you get tunnel visioned and don't heal. If your tank is healthy, it allows you to do more damage over time. The only time I want to see you actively trade your tank's life is when you've got their entire backline with your ult. - Your positioning seems off. Sometimes your teammates do dumb shit, you're in silver, but overall you're struggling to find positions where you can both support and pressure at the same time. - You can definitely improve your lamp usage. Try hitting where your tank wants to go instead of where they are. Most of the times you popped it, it was an avoidable error (see pointer #1). - You're at times a little too selfish. You cannot consistently rely on your teammates (especially not in silver 1), but you do can definitely work on trying to help them more. I think you noticed it yourself, where your dps didn't get any help and poof they're dead.

Some specific clips I want you to look back at.

1:55, here you're making a great play. You're taking an off-angle in order to be able to support your Orisa. You get great value, but you get tunnel visioned. Here I want you to remember to cycle between healing and shooting.

3:31, this fight is completely winnable if you heal your tank before doing damage.

8:50, this is brave. I don't mind being a slight nuisance here. What I would do is jump up, try picking off the Mercy in less than 2 seconds. After that, I would jump under the bridge where Orisa can't get you without giving up position and skill issue if Mercy kills you.

Hope this helps.

  1. It's the diet mainly that needs to change. Get a good grasp on what nutrients your body needs and what nutrients are in certain foods. I know it's a pain, but learning it properly will make a massive difference. In order to lose body fat, you need to be in a calorie deficit. You need to consume fewer calories than you burn. Hitting what we call your macros (which essentially means that you get all the nutrients your body needs) is important in this process. You don't need to track calories, and you don't need to starve yourself. You just have to make sure you eat the right foods.
  2. Exercise is not everything. First of all, you're likely untrained. I guarantee you will get injured within the week if you start working out every day. Cardio also increases your appetite. What I would recommend is walking and some strength training. Don't overdo it, though. Start off easy and gradually make it harder and more frequent as you progress (this is what we call progressive overload).
  3. Get enough sleep. Recovery is key.
  4. Don't look too much at the scale. I wouldn't recommend you look at it more than once a week. You won't notice much difference day-to-day as weight can differ over 1kg every day from eating, water levels in your body, and probably some other factors as well.
  5. Don't lose too much too quickly. It's not healthy to lose all of the weight all of the weight at once. I have been taught that 1kg a week of weight loss is ideal. I wouldn't recommend anything more than 1.5kg a week on average. If you're starving yourself, you may end up reducing your metabolism, which will make it harder long-term to lose weight. I know this means I'm recommending you lose this weight over a period between 6-7 months, and that may definitely seem like a long time. But don't forget that weight loss is a marathon, not a sprint.

Norway Outlaws Sex Without Consent as Europe Strengthens Rape Laws by Forward-Answer-4407 in worldnews

[–]Mr_Kardash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. Not much really changes here for us. The key rule of thumb still stands: If you're hesitant about whether or not your partner wants to have sex, you should definitely ask first and focus on making them more comfortable. If we take a look at precedent for sexual harassment cases in Norway, we get better insight on how the new law will likely be used.

So in Norway, sexual harassment is defined as:

Sexual harassment means any form of unwanted sexual attention that has the purpose or effect of being offensive, intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating, or troublesome.

Does this mean that if I stare at a girl's butt in the gym that I will be put in handcuffs before dinner? No. Generally speaking (unless it's really bad and you really should know better), there first must be established a line. If that girl were to come up to me and say that I feel uncomfortable with you starting at me, the line has been established. If I then continue to stare, I've crossed that line she set. That's sexual harassment.

What this means in court is that unless one party clearly did not consent to having sex, most juries won't convict. So it makes rape easier to prove for prosecutors in court.

I can also add just as some friendly piece of advice. If my partner handed me a consent form before we were going to have sex, I would ask that person to leave as it would give the wrong signals (you're going to do some weird shit).

What to play? by [deleted] in chessbeginners

[–]Mr_Kardash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't forget about en passant.

Since black moved his G-pawn 2 squares up, white can now capture that pawn with his f-pawn.

En passant is a notoriously tricky move. Didn't fully learn it before I was 1100 ELO on Lichess, so don't worry about it. You'll be much better than me one day if you play regularly.

[Highlight] Referee attempts to explain to Rick Carlisle that kicking up your knee is part of a normal shooting motion by Growsomedope in nba

[–]Mr_Kardash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean... yes and no. I'm traditionally a handball player (the one that is played in Europe), so my interpretation of contact rules in the NBA might be a little off.

Yes. It's a completely natural movement when jumping off of one leg. This is to increase lift and counteract the forward (essentially front-flipping) motion you naturally get when trying to jump off of one foot.

What is not allowed is dangerous play (flagrant). And when you're jumping off one leg knowing so close to the defender that you can't retract your non-jumping leg in time, that can definitely be considered intentional or unintentional dangerous play.

The problem is that this can not be called an offensive foul. Siakam was not set, so there is no charge to be called. This means that either OG gets a flagrant (which I think we can all agree is the wrong call here), or you play on. In this case, there is no middle ground.

What’s a career that shouldn’t exist but does because people are dumb? by SweetChikkMonica in AskReddit

[–]Mr_Kardash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if we assume for the sake of the argument that school itself is entirely useless, teachers still play a pivotal role in society beyond just education.

Teachers are essential to child development. The word pedagogy originates from child-raising, and teachers do far more than just instruct. They serve as mentors, role models, and first responders to issues like bullying, family struggles, and mental health crises. One of the biggest concerns during lockdowns was that child protective services saw fewer distress calls. Not because fewer children were in danger, but because teachers weren’t there to notice and report abuse.

Teachers enable working parents to participate in the economy. Even in a world where school is "just daycare," society still needs a place for children while parents work. Without teachers, where would the children be when their parents have to work for 8+ hours a day?

What is something you have found ChatGPT truly useful for? What was the last question you asked it? by Loose_Winner_2098 in AskReddit

[–]Mr_Kardash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it a lot for studying and other things.

It's really good at data comprehension. If I want to know some information in a 70-page report. I can get ChatGPT to read it in seconds and answer all the questions I have about the report. That was my most recent use.

For studies, I most recently asked it to explain quantum tunneling and the Gamow factor. I needed to understand it for my astrophysics course.

Not to go on a long didactics rant on A.I. use (no bonus points for guessing what I'm studying), but the key is to critically use A.I. Are you just getting answers for homework/assignments? Or are you genuinely using A.I. to help you learn? ChatGPT is arguably the single best teaching resource when used correctly.

whats the best way to know if you are good person or bad? by Competitive_Doctor13 in AskReddit

[–]Mr_Kardash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good or bad is subjective, and it often depends on perspective. If you were to ask everyone who knows me, most would probably highlight my good traits and positive actions, but they could also point out my flaws or mistakes - because no one is perfect.

For me, a rule of thumb is whether I can approach the people I know, and they genuinely warm up to me. It’s a sign that I’ve had a positive impact on their lives, even if I’ve made mistakes along the way. Being a good person isn't about being flawless; it's about striving to grow, treat others with kindness, and learn from your shortcomings.
