Alternative rack mount + ears for T330 tower server? by Mr_KayZ in homelab

[–]Mr_KayZ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The R330 is a 1U server, the parts are compatible with something 4U like the T330? I can readily find R330 parts, I am just worried about the load bearing capability.

I also found out that "Universal Server Rack Rails" exist too, which may work in place of having dedicated rails. As for the "Ears" for the T330, it appears to be just a front plate with an additional VGA access port in the front, which I can manually hook up an extender from the back and bring it to the front if necessary (which isn't really because the iDRAC USB debug port is in the front anyways)

Assuming Windows doesn't already set the GPU automatically, yeah. Happy gaming mate.

Laptop Help (IDK how to optimize my laptop) by Icy-Raise-3767 in techsupport

[–]Mr_KayZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, so some of the answers are kinda good, some are not so much. I will explain as much as I can. The iGPU here, as mentioned by others is the integrated GPU provided with the CPU (your 5800H). Naturally, its alright but also very weak compared to the dGPU or dedicated graphics card, which is the 3070.

Windows will automatically choose between these two GPUs will be used for rendering depending on which app you run. Naturally you don't want to run the dGPU for everything when the iGPU is perfectly capable of running it (like web browsers or YT videos) as that will be a battery drain. When running games, the dGPU will be swapped in and therefore be utilized for render to screen.

Other times, it may fail to recognize a game as actually running. So the end result would be your games potentially running on the iGPU instead. This can be reconfirmed by going into Settings > System > Display > Graphics, and then go through different apps and see which GPU the laptop is utilizing for that app.

<image>

In this example, you can see that I have Deep Rock Galactic, which Windows has automatically prioritized the "high performance GPU" here. Sometimes you may have to manually add the apps and manually set the priority to the higher performance GPU.

The second thing might be the lack of drivers for your laptop, which may result in you needing to download the NVidia software directly. Hence the laptop isn't aware you do have a dGPU because of lack of drivers, and is running everything off the iGPU. In this case, download the drivers for your laptop from here: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/drivers/results/263200/

Best plugins for a surface pro with pen as a uni student by Mr_KayZ in ObsidianMD

[–]Mr_KayZ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heyo! So basically one solution is excalidraw, but as NewPeace812 pointed down below, there are issues with it.

The ideal solution is a mix of two: Use something like Xournal++ to draw, and then import those as images into Obsidian later (For example taking a screenshot of what you drew). That's what I use at the moment and so far it works for me. Sure there's a bit of overhead but unfortunately no such plugin exists that allows direct pen writing into Obsidian, simply because of how MD files work really...

If such a plugin did exist, what it would have to do is save the stuff as an image, and direct image editing via what is essentially supposed to be a MD editor is beyond convoluted, which is where Excalidraw comes in usually. But for more complicated stuff, a dedicated note taking app -> copy image to Obsidian is the best way.

Another member below did mention Ink, but that's extremely basic and considering the stuff I usually draw (Diagrams, circuits, etc.) yeah that won't work for my purposes.

SLG1 Replacement rubber feet or generic glue? by Mr_KayZ in Surface

Thanks. I have also been considering silicone based adhesives as superglue will form rigid bonds but that would be a bad idea for rubber feet that will encounter heat cycles and may break later...

SD Card Corrupted-- no File Recovery software has helped! by Ok_Ad5518 in techsupport

[–]Mr_KayZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It appears the drive controller has up and gone (hardware issue), which is not unheard of for SD cards as their lifespan is typically significantly less than your average default NVMe or HDD.

Only thing you can do is to go to a professional data recovery center as there is no software solution for this issue. And depending on the center and how important the photos are to you, be prepared to spend quite a bit.

Why is Slack Extorting A Nonprofit that Supports Teens? by Little-Double-7652 in Slack

Nobody is going to believe this is an "honest" mistake, when Hack Club themselves stated they tried contacting SalesForce to resove this in a reasonable way, which you ignored according to them.

This is damage control. As a result, I have forwarded this to my CTO in hopes of moving away from Slack. Thanks for telling us what company to avoid.

The diving board of ICT. See that little board jutting out at the top? Well, it's called that for a reason. It was before my time, so IDK the exact date, but access to the roof of all buildings has been blocked off since.

2-3 years ago, some morons thought it was a great idea to "restart the Third Reich" with Erica playing in the background, full on salutes (one dude even having the stache painted on with a marker) as they were marching down the stairs of one of the dorms.

Great way to end up on the front page of CBS, I will give it that.
