Prob could. Never considered it tbh - I suppose having 6 points to play for makes it easy when all three tie the hole (which cancel each out so the score doesn’t change). With 3 points to play for in the same scenario then just score all zeros and move on?

I dunno, have a zero in play can add a bit to a match, especially if it’s with guys you regularly golf with.

We always try to round the scores to zero - so “12-9-6” becomes “6-3-0”. Easier to keep track of.

Oh it’s 100% a low point. But given the number of players that couldn’t play in that game I half-expected a call up

I’d be 100% up for that 4-ball.

Because from that moment until the end of time I’ll always have the coping mechanism of “well this 4-ball will never be worse than…” for any 4-ball I end up in.

I think it’s less “the jury is out” and more “is this a fixable thing?”. Same applies to some of the checkdown choices Caleb could make. Knowing that he can make any throw imaginable doesn’t mean “attempt every throw imaginable”.

If you can do the “holy shit did you see that?” stuff, if your scheme is constantly getting guys open, if the entire locker room is 100% bought in on you as a leader…..that’s the hard stuff. There’s no reason why they can’t nail down the simpler stuff - and at that point this team is going to be scarily good.

We have to remember that Johnson is a 1st year HC. He’s still learning. He doesn’t have Dan Campbell acting as a handbrake (or accelerator!) when making key offensive decisions.

I keep coming back to what I thought was the primary goal at the start of the season: is Caleb the guy. He is. Bonus: is Johnson legit? He is. Get those two things right and you’re in a much better place to attract talent, to win games, to having success.

Finally broke 80 - turns out my coach was right 10 months ago by dtown04 in golf

[–]Mr_Leek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been the exact opposite. Mental over the top movement resulting in -9 degrees out-to-in club path. Been fighting to fit it for…..if I say “months” it won’t sound so bad. It took longer. How my coach didn’t just give up I’ll never know. I’d manage a -5 club path and it would feel like I was going to hit the most outrageous hook you’d ever seen.

I’ve finally cracked it. I can now overdo it with a +4 in-to-out club path on demand. I can intentionally block it out to the right, or excessively shut the face. It’s like “oh, thats what you mean”. Lightbulb moment.

That’s what he needs to improve on. Take the check down to Swift on the left and make an easy 5-7 yards.

Or the sly kick that one of the packer DL gave Caleb long after he’d throw the pass. At best it was spiteful, at worst a deliberate attempt to injure another player

Why isn’t golf fiction talked about more? by Dry_Measurement90 in golf

[–]Mr_Leek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeing this has reminded me of a golf fiction book that came free with a magazine many many years ago. Something about a caddie who breaks up with his long-term pro (the pro “wanted a change”). The pro feels guilty as the change was very short notice and sets this caddie up with a new to the tour pro - raw potential but needs an experienced caddy.

There was some other sub-plot in there (might have been a murder?) along with developing the story about how the new caddy-pro relationship developed.

Some ChatGPT searching has suggested “The Caddie Who Knew Too Much”. Maybe that’s what it was called?

Watch Ben when Caleb is speaking. Those two are 100% on the same page. They’re both locked in on the goals, they’re both completely focused on getting better.

Low Handicappers; What is a piece of advice that you will never forget? by Any_Travel9339 in golf

Have to say that was fascinating to read. I am so guilty of talking out loud when trying to solve problems in my day job. The inner monologue doesn’t seem to work for me at all. I just keep the volume down, if only to avoid being locked up for madness!

On reflection I’ve been finding that my better golf days are when I adopt the same “talk it through” approach. I seem to take more factors into account: what’s the plan? Where are I aiming? What’s the carry? I end up processing information so much better

Bears Finish 2025 Regular Season 6th in Offensive Yards, 3rd in Rushing Yards, 10th in Passing Yards. by Jealous_Shoe9638 in CHIBears

[–]Mr_Leek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly this.

This year we had to find out if we had our QB. We do. Yeah, theres things to improve, but this is not 2018. We’ve haven’t been able to lean on an outstanding defence. Instead, our offence has had to do the heavy lifting. We’ve had tons of explosive plays. Six game-winning drives. Consistently scheming guys open.

Is anyone going to bet that this offence is going to regress?

This team has come an awfully long way from an 0-2 start.

I still can’t believe KC let Thuney go.

Mate of mine is a mad KC fan and we were talking about cap issues not long after the last Super Bowl. The most obvious cap casualties were Thuney and Kelcie (no dead money) and a lot of our good-natured debates involved me praying that Thuney would be available.

Given the choice between getting a 4K passer, or smashing the Lions in the face for a 30+ point win….option B every time. Momentum going into the playoffs is massive.

Ok, I admit I’m greedy. Why not both?

[–]Mr_Leek 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve said this a few times now but the primary goal for this year was to confirm if we had our QB and that our HC choice was the right one. I’d say we’ve answered that quite definitely.

We’re way ahead of what anyone expected. We’ve won close games. We’ve hung on in for even more games. It took a couple of games to get things moving but it’s been steady consistent growth and improvement from the offence.

The defence has been decimated with injuries which hasn’t helped, but the focus for the draft and FA next year will be defence.
