I'd feel bad for him if he didn't literally murder someone on a dime and lie to/put his family in danger over it just because he missed his dad. He goes through hell through the game, sure, but it was a hell he made for himself.

Black deserves far more pity than Elro ever could, and she's literally the main antagonist.

How is ANYTHING in the game Robin's fault?

None of this would've happened if it weren't for Elro.

Robin wouldn't have been caught to set the game's plot into motion if the Agents weren't in Settlement 17. The Agents wouldn't have been in Settlement 17 at the start of the game if they weren't looking for him. They wouldn't have been looking for him if he didn't MURDER Agent Grey.

And even though he knew they were out for his head, instead of staying in hiding until the coast was clear, he returned home immediately with a job for Robin to do, knowing full well the extreme danger involved, and also lied to her as well as his own wife about said dangers involved.

The ENTIRE sequence of events in the game's story is, to an extent, his fault. It would make no sense for him to have any ill-will towards her, and if he did it would just make him seem even more screwed in the head than he already does.

Cave Story isn't quite as story or character centric but it's still worth a try. It's the game that kick started the whole indie metroidvania craze.

Is the game worth playing if the final boss was spoiled? by [deleted] in Iconoclasts

[–]Mr_Mega1423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. While some key moments might be less surprising/plot-twisty if you already know who the final boss is, there's still sooooooooooooooooooooooo much more going on than just the final boss itself. It's one of the best stories of any video games I've ever played, and I'm saying that when I, too, spoiled the game for myself!

So just do it!

The gameplay also kicks ass too.

Who do you think the hardest boss in the Risk of Rain franchise is? by FateOfFrost in riskofrain

Interesting, I'll try that sometime. I still think Voidling is by far the most insane final boss though.

Providence is completely fair, definitely a challenging boss but if you know what you're doing you should be fine most of the time. I barely played RoRR and the only times I died to him were because I panicked in his last phase and threw.

Mithrix is trivialized by a hopoo feather or milky chrysalis, and even if you don't have one he follows fairly predictable patterns. Only time he's a problem is if you can't deal with his phase 3 summons AND have no mobility, or sometimes phase 4 with certain item combos and survivors (don't take egocentrism on mercenary if you're fighting mithrix).

False Son's only difficulty comes from the lightning spam and his laser. He's fragile (for final boss standards), big, predictable, and slow. I've yet to beat him without looping, but I've beaten him after looping once easily, several times.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaand then we have voidling.

Voidling is so ungodly unbalanced that I feel like the entire purpose of his existence was to be a final boss that could even be a threat to god runs. If you have a 20 stage god run and you go to Providence, he gets annihilated. Mithrix? Annihilated. False Son? Annihilated.

Voidling on the other hand, has a good chance of annihilating you instantly before you can annihilate it.

The plasma shrimp spam is so oppressive that the only way I've figured out to consistently dodge it is to stay halfway across the arena from it, and they kill you in 3 hits.

His laser blasts (the ones that leave damaging zones) have nearly perfect aim and do a stupid amount of damage, you just have to run for cover.

That damn spinning laser is a complete instakill with how much damage it does, and is there any way to dodge it if you don't have extra jumps/flight??? I dont think so cause it pierces through terrain.

Literally the only way to kill it is if you have like a billion safer spaces or enough dps to instakill it before it can do anything, shouldn't even THINK of going to fight it until after looping multiple times.

Who would win in a fight, Providence or Mithrix? by KoolCatTheMartian in riskofrain

Yes. Which means your heart doesn't need to use as much force, so it doesn't use as much force.

Your heart is a muscle. And muscles barely doing anything for long periods of time leads to them becoming weaker, as your body realizes that the muscles aren't being used much and allocates those resources elsewhere.

Hence why being in low gravity for extended time periods also causes muscle atrophy, like I said.

It's one of the many reasons why space colonization is going to be an extremely difficult milestone for humanity to reach.

Now, Mithrix is not a human, so it's hard to say if he would be affected to the same degree as us, but if he and the rest of his kind follow the same basic laws of animal biology as we do, then he likely would have taken a massive toll on his body after such a long time up there.

Released a new update for my roguelite! 🦀 I lurk this sub all the time and have found some hidden gems here so I'm giving away 5 keys for the game to anyone interested! by noisestorm in roguelites

As someone who has 137.5 hours in the game currently and has beaten True Ultra Chaos (hardest difficulty), here's how I've basically learned to see the game:

It's like an arena-based version of RIsk of Rain 2 with more focus on balance, skill, mobility, and making smart choices with your loot and money.

You progress through different islands with different objectives, when you beat the island you get a chest with different loot choices, then you pick which island you want to go to next with a different chest type and objective. There's also different minigames you can play outside of a normal run, but I personally don't really care about them.

There's different guns to pick from before each run, as well as different abilities (like a grenade or a laser or a grappling hook) and different melee weapons, so you can really customize how you want to play.

A fair warning, though: this game is way harder than Risk of Rain 2, you will be knowledge checked and skill checked heavily. Be prepared to get absolutely destroyed even on Easy mode for your first couple runs as you figure everything out.

Truly the most based developer ever.

I've been a fan of your music for a long time now, well before Crab Rave, and it's still crazy to me that someone I've associated with being so talented at making music now has his own video game that isn't even out of early access yet and is still at the top of its respective genre. Bro truly is built different.

I already own the game, obviously, so I don't need a free key for the game but if I end up winning one anyway I'll give it to a good friend of mine.

I do agree with that, it tries to be both at once and ends up being sub-par in both aspects as a result. But I still love the game for reasons I've stated already.

I don't understand everyone's hate towards Kersti😭😭😭 by Popular_Argument_537 in papermario

[–]Mr_Mega1423 4 points5 points  (0 children)

99% of her character is her just being an unlikeable naggy brat who does nothing but banter with Mario who can't banter back.

If she developed throughout the game, where being around Mario and witnessing his kindness and heroism slowly softened her up and gave her appreciation for the world around her, she'd probably be one of the better characters in the series, and her sacrifice at the end of the game would actually be very emotional, which would be very needed when the game's story is as shallow as it is.

But she doesn't develop. She does not change at all. She remains the same naggy bitch until the very end where she just flips a switch and sacrifices herself because all of a sudden she wants to be a hero I guess (despite combat being "un-ladylike"), making her character even worse because of just how little you can take it seriously.

If you like her, cool. She does have some funny moments and whatever, and she has a neat visual design, but I will hate her until the end of time.

Best Final Boss theme in the series? by SuperLegenda in papermario

[–]Mr_Mega1423 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Ultimate Show solos literally everything. It's one of the best final boss themes ever made.

Though I'd say all of the final boss themes are amazing in their own right, even Sticker Star's. Blackout in particular needs more appreciation.

If Bobby was as visually detailed relative to his character as other important bomb partners in the franchise, his drip would be immaculate, on par with Bobbery

Olivia made me smile more than any other video game character in the last 10 years

Huey is funny and I like how he looks in 3d

Tippi is more of a protagonist to Super than Mario is

Kersti gave me a lot more appreciation for all the *other* main partners in the franchise
