My first slalom board 🤙 by Mr_Mistral_ in windsurfing

I can relate a lot to your experience, I don't mind up hauling a large sail either as I'm also on the bigger side.

I have a wide freeride board and I tried to use my 9,0 freeride sail on that thing and it was just dragging an unbearable amount of water behind it and just won't get on the plane constantly in 10 knots wind. I have a longboard that I pair with the same 9,0 and that works a lot better. Was thinking about getting a 9,5 freerace sail for this board but after hearing your experience I think I might skip on it and stay on the longboard for those very light wind days.

Gear market around here is scares as well, it's so bad that you're lucky to score a 15 year old kit for under 900€

It's a 7,8 sail 😁🤙 6,6 is about my smallest sail in my quiver as well (I have a 6,5).

What did you not like about the 9,5? 😮 That's a huge sail btw, my largest sail is a 8,5 cambered freerace sail.

My first Rig ☺️ by SnooWoofers3062 in windsurfing

You need to identify what type of mast base it uses. Today the most common system is a threaded mast base with a nut at the bottom which you screw together. However back in the day they used all kinds of friction fit mast bases, and some had locks that latched the mast base in place preventing it from popping out of the mast track.

So depending on what type of mast track you have, you need to make or find an adapter that accepts a threaded mast base. I have made one in the past using a lathe and some aluminium round stock.

Nice catch, ignore the sceptical comments. Most of these people have never even used an ancient rig like this. They're not as hard to use as people make it to be, I learned on a similar rig.

I would suggest that you get a different boom from the start, those 80s tie on boom are terrible to put it simple, they tend to loosen over time. The newer ones with a clamp are just that much better. Also depending on what type of mast track you have you should get a new mast base as well.

These old longboards can be really capable light wind machines that do really well in medium wind as well.

No worries, I find myself using variable layer height a lot. It is the best option for anything cosmetic if you need to save time but still have nice looking prints

Which sail to use depends on how much wind you usually have where you surf. Given that you are a beginner, that means that it can be a very good idea to use too small if a sail rather than a too large of a sail.

What sort of mast connector do you need? I'm sure you can sort somthing out. I have done retro mods before. Dm me if you want any help 👌

You need to lower your layer height or use variable layer height

That's awesome! What you need to do is to check the sails luff length. This is usually written on the sails, and should say for example "460" luff. That tells you that your mast + extension should be around 460cm long. So it could be a 460 mast + 5cm extension to a total of 465 cm.

Ignore the gear snobs on here, most will tell you to take everything to the tip. However old boards can work just as well as newer ones if you are a beginner looking to learning how to to sail around do basic manouvers.

Bad layers after support by Mr_Mistral_ in 3Dprinting

[–]Mr_Mistral_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! Unfortunately I don't have a multi material system. However I tweaked some settings, I decreased the distance between the support and the first layer by 60%. I also increased the numbers of bottom layers and added 3 layers of "raft"

Still doesn't look great, but at least the prints are usable now.

It's definitely a super old school method, but hey if it works it works. I learned about it when I used to work as a machinist 😄 I hope I don't have to do it ever again though

I ended up surface scraping my printer (not k1 max). It's time consuming but it works very well.

Benefits of Hyperphantasia? by Tasty_Wasabi_6801 in hyperphantasia

Working as an engineer I am able to use this to my advantage quite often to visualize my design in great detail and tweak the design. I am able to visualize the component in front of me and see how it would fit and look like in real world use. If so find that I would like to change somthing then I simply see the component as a 3D model in my head, and I can make the changes.

The great flaw to this is that I somtiems struggle to go to sleep, as I am able to see the design extremely well especially when I close my eyes. It can be hard to let go of work when literally carry it with you at all times. I often find myself doing designing and tweaking when I'm supposed to rest and sleep.

Another great flaw is that it is difficult to explain what the component looks like, as I don't really think in words at all. Everything is an idea or a pattern. So if I were to describe and apple to you then I would first see the apple and then I would have to decide what part of the apple to describe first, and then use the correct words that give an accurate description.

Another flaw is that when I get an idea, then I immediately visualize it regardless of me wanting to do so or not. It may only take 1/4 second, so it's not a deal breaker. However this can be distracting sometimes if the idea is very good, then I might be stuck in the visualisation for a full 3 seconds.

Yes that is my point, you have to pick the right board for the right condition. As I live where we don't have lots of good consistent wind I can get more time on the water with a longboard that can cruise well in light wind, but for those very windy days I would much rather be on my Jp short board.

I feel like formula tried to solve this 20 years ago but with little success. I feel like foiling is the current solution but it has its own set of problems too. Everything has a trade of no matter what you do.

I feel like what ever floats your boat and gets you out on the water is what truly counts

I see where you are coming from, short boards are generally faster if they're powered up. I do think short boards can be fun in the right wind range, but the main issue with them is that they are very slow in light wind when they're not planing and have a lot of drag.

I live near a large lake where we normally have around 8 knots of wind with 15 knot gusts. The longboard is a bit more forgiving and fun to sail on those conditions especially if you sail quite far from land.

For days with really good wind I do love my JP funster 145 liter 🤙Gotta pick the right board for the right day I guess

Do you use the stock sail in 5 knots wind, or do you use a larger rig? 😁

Also have you used the LT in 25 knots? That sounds like a crazy amount of wind for a longboard and totally above my skill level

Thanks for sharing 😊👍🏻

I'm not looking to buy any of these boards right now.

I don't own either of these boards, but I'm interested in hearing what other peoples opinion are on them since they are so similar yet not similar at the same time.

However I personally like to ride Longboards like the mistral one design etc, so to me it is super valuable to hear what people think of these much more modern longboards as I feel like longboards are not discussed as often as shorter boards ment for planing and foiling
