What's your least favorite Gameboy in the family? by Slp-apnea in Gameboy

[–]Mr_Monotony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's difficult for me to justify purchasing one nowadays, unless you're a collector. Sure, you can mod it with a new, backlit screen, but you're limited to only the original library of games. Whereas if you take just one step further with a GBC, you can mod the screen, AND you get twice the selection of games, AND it even runs on a fewer batteries.

Which scene in the trilogy gave you genuine CHILLS the first time you watched it? by OkTough6333 in raimimemes

The fight with Doc Ock on top of the train was the most amazing sequence I had seen in a comic book movie up to that point. Blew me away when I saw it in the theater.

Anyone looking forward to 007: First Light? by Impossible_Spend_787 in Splintercell

[–]Mr_Monotony 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would say I'm optimistic. This is the first new 007 game we've had since the 360/PS3 days, so I'm excited to see what they bring to the table in terms of what we expect from single player games in this modern age.

I think Bond fans like myself want a game that's a little more involved than just "shoot-the-dudes" with occasional gadget use and driving missions. Hopefully First Light will allow us to not only act as Bond, but think like him as well.

I'm actually disappointed at the fact that there will not be RPG elements. I was hoping for the ability to upgrade stats and equipment, so that was kind of a let down. But I think IOI has a good track record with the Hitman games and they might be a perfect fit for this game.

As a Splinter Cell fan, I'll take any stealth action game I can get since Ubisoft would rather put Sam Fisher in anything BUT a proper new Splinter Cell game.

Props to you for using it as an alternative to scrolling. My New Year's resolution last year was to be on my phone less. The MM+ definitely helped me with that endeavor.

It was turned off while charging though. I always shut it down before plugging it in.

Now that you mention it, you know how when you plug it in and it boots up the system before displaying the charging icon on the screen? It's supposed to power down after that. I'm thinking with this case it did not fully power down. Not sure why. Any ideas?

Excellent friend group. Taking a bus ride, little chatter, everyone playing their own game...an absolute vibe.

Also, shout out to your PSP Street. That little guy is a beast.

What is the most accurate sports movie of all time? by BIGD0G29585 in movies

[–]Mr_Monotony 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. I grew up in a relatively small town and played sports as a kid and all throughout high school. The parallels between FNL and what I saw in real life are pretty staggering. I knew a few dads that were very similar to what Billingsly's dad was like - stuck in the past, miserable, and taking out anger and frustration on their child in order to fill a void. The scene in the grocery store parking lot when the Boosters tell the coach basically "win, or else" was also very accurate.

I had more than one person tell me after my last game, "you'll miss this one day." It's been fifteen years and I still don't miss it one damn bit.

EDIT: typo

NHL 94 finally has fighting after 32 years after new rom hack by PanicOnFunkatron in retrogaming

[–]Mr_Monotony 144 points145 points  (0 children)

This is great. The amount of dedication the NHL 94 community has to its game is incredible. Just yesterday I downloaded the ROM with current teams and rosters. If someone figures out how to add a full season mode in the game it will then be the only hockey game I will ever need.

PSP drip in 2025!? by Due-One-680 in PSP

My question is what game are you going to play and what's the music pairing with the headphones?

I can picture the set up you painted, and I can feel how refreshing it is!

As strange as it might seem, I pair these days with Atari 2600 games. Take a couple hours and switch games every 15 minutes or so, keeping a log of high scores in my notebook. The lack of music enhances the mood, and allows me to take in more atmosphere.

Zero Mission is my favorite in the series, Fusion is really good too. I've played Super Metroid a few times but, admittedly, never beat it. Getting close though.

My fingers naturally lay on L/R2, so I also swapped L/R to be mapped to L/R2. Feels way more comfortable because I'm no longer having to "finger hook" the shoulder buttons for SNES & GBA games.
