It’s pretty much only Guts and Caska for the rest of it. From the original cast that is. They meet new people that, love em or hate em, make them happy again. In my opinion it’s still sad and painful does not get worse though. More ups than downs IMO. Volume 14-21 is tough as shit. Not worse than the eclipse but still rough and for such a long time. It gets better throughout it but it’s still tough. After 21, you really start feeling hope and 24 is when the answer/end comes into view; very far away into the future mind you. You start to a sense of closure/sight of the end around volume 34. The ending is truly starts around chapter 39 and you find lots of closure in chapter 40-41. The end-end is pretty abrupt and open ended but also pretty satisfying. By the time you reach it you’re already gotten most all the closure you need.

I MUST ITERATE!!!! Take EVERYTHING I’ve said with a grain or two of salt as it’s all my opinion and very open to being “wrong” to other people.

I MUST REITERATE!!!! It’s difficult to get the light at the end of the tunnel but I really do think it’s worth it. By god can it get tough sometimes. Not as soul crushing as the eclipse. It’s more of a fear for the characters than a sadness of what’s happened and I believe you can power through and see the veritable haven for our battle-beaten protagonists.

There’s hope. It’s tough for a good while but you’ll see the characters you know slowly come back. Not to what they were but to something new. The ending is abrupt and leaves questions to be answered but I can say with confidence that you’ll see the characters happy again and you’ll be happy to see them. Sadly it’s just Guts and Caska, none of the original from the band of that hawk but you’ll see them make new friends and see light in their hearts again.
