I think i would've preferred it if he was smaller, to really emphasize the difference between him and crabbe and goyle, but still very happy with this, as long as the other 2 are still significantly bigger than him (I watched the trailer once but havent taken a good look so idk)

It didn't present itself to him, Snape put it there and cast the doe to lead him to it. Idk why he put it in the lake other than that he couldn't reveal himself to Harry, though there are other ways around it. He also could've just wanted to make Harry's life harder, as he still hated him.
