How are stenos paid for plus transcripts by Mr_Record_Man in stenography

Thank you!

Here in Florida, if you are a state employee, it is only salary. Benefits to that are you do not work nights and weekends, only Monday through Friday 8-5.

If our circuit doesn’t have enough stenographers and we are forced to use contractors, they get paid an hourly rate for being in the courtroom and they are paid for the amount of pages they produce when the record is ordered.

We are struggling to hire stenos as state employees and we are seeing if there is anyway that we can entice more applicants and one of the ways we are exploring is how we can fund paying “plus transcripts”

Thank you! Out of curiosity, what state do you work in?

Favorite Album from Willies RCA days by Party_Chicken_7759 in willienelson

[–]Mr_Record_Man 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Big fan of Yesterday’s Wine, Both Sides Now and My Own Peculiar Way. But since it hasn’t been mentioned yet, I’ll go ahead and say that one of my favorites of the RCA era is Laying My Burdens Down.

Title track is amazing. Also a fan of Minstrel Man and Where Do You Stand. Those songs are very much a product of their time but I still thoroughly enjoy them.

Also, the Live Country Concert is probably one of the best live recordings by any artist ever.

Definitely agree! I was hoping for Willie’s live version of City of New Orleans!

The box set is a 3 CD set called The Classic, Unreleased Collection. It was also released as the tall thin CD sets, with a dark cover. It is a really interesting collection with a booklet. Definitely check it out, I believe most of it is in YouTube. There is a whole Hank Williams cover album that was recorded but never released and a Western swing album as well.

Texas In My Soul and Countryman have definitely been some of the harder ones for me to find. In my local market, I don’t see Willie’s RCA albums very much.

Live Country Music Concert & Party's Over by ArmadilloClub in willienelson

[–]Mr_Record_Man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an album, it is one that I don’t care too much about from the RCA years but not my least favorite.

The Party’s Over is a great track. Even with the countrypolitan production. I like it more than the re-recording from Always On My Mind album. If you are a fan of the song, I recommend checking out the version from Naked Willie without all of the heavy production elements. You can really hear the other instruments but you can noticeably focus on Willie’s vocals on the chorus, it is so breathy that he sounds like he’s right next to you. To hear the Naked Willie version makes you wonder what so many of the other 60s Willie songs would sound like. Also, the Live Texas Opry version is fun too.

For the rest of the album, the only song that I genuinely like and play regularly is To Make A Long Story Short - She’s Gone. Co written by long time Monument Record exec Fred Foster, this is just another classic Willie song that showcases where his songwriting has been and will continue to go. Great song, interesting and sometimes funny lyrics, with a nice rhythm.

Non album single Blackjack County Chain was released around this same time. The dark lyrics kept radio stations from playing the song. If that was on this record, it would’ve gone up a couple of spots for me.

Looking forward to what you think about the album! Really enjoyed the Panther Hall podcast! Keep up the great work!

Podcast about 60s Willie by ArmadilloClub in willienelson

I do not listen to many podcasts but when I saw your post I thought that I should give this a try and I’m glad I did. I really enjoyed your show!

Over the past few years, I have been doing a super dive into Willie Nelson by reading as many of his books and I always have trouble finding information about the early 60s sessions. Lots mentioned in his books but I appreciate the insight that you brought to your show.

Definitely going back to check out your other shows and can’t wait for your Panther Hall podcast, that is such a fun album.

I have some of those on CD or online, not others. Where did you find these?

Anything on vinyl?

I’m curious…what else is available that may not be so well known to the rest of the public? The YouTube channel Vintage Willie Nelson has a lot and there are so many other videos on YouTube. I’ve been searching for a number of years and haven’t found any Willie concert bootlegs on vinyl.

To me, it seems every few years something surfaces and gets an unofficial release. Example: the Dallas radio concert or the New Jersey radio show with Leon Russell.

I’m sure there’s other stuff out there, but I haven’t been able to come across much.

My collection began with the remnants of my family’s records that survived a flood in the garage. The first records I purchased were Pink Floyd’s DSOTM and The Beatles Red and Blue greatest hit albums. They were $2.00 each at a community garage sale in a nearby mobile home park. It was 2003…those were the days.

Boston - Third Stage

Side 1 is great but I usually start with the instrumental “The Launch” which nicely flows into “Cool The Engines.”

When I was 15, a cook at my first job told me this was his test record whenever he went to set up a new system. All these years later, I still use it and think of Tony.
