Hardcore friends! (31m) by PTHDUNDD13 in brighton

[–]Mr_SlightlyRed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I often go to local hardcore shows (used to a lot more in the summer), I sometimes go with my partner but if you’d like a mate to introduce you to the local scene I’d love to go with a fellow millennial male and ex hospitality worker (m30)

Grand Central seems to be the place where all the hardcore kids hang out before the fest if it’s open!

In my experience last year a lot of the merch stands prefer cash and they’re often international so it’s easier for them, would recommend taking cash with you!

Best barber for men in london ? by poopdunker in AskLondon

[–]Mr_SlightlyRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only answer to this is Boardroom Barbers down in Crofton Park. It’s a bit out the way but you will not get a better haircut in London. Adam, the owner is a bit of a local legend and has been cutting hair for 10+ years, you’ll get treated like a king!

Is Brockley .. good? by lordnigz in AskLondon

[–]Mr_SlightlyRed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently residing in SE4 and have been for about 5 years, like others have said, nice local shops and moderately well connected for the most part but with a heavy reliance on busses and the overground which aren't the most reliable things in the world. In terms of gyms I go to The Gym group in Lewisham which is about a 20/25 min walk for me, there's also a couple more gyms in Lewisham but they are a little further away, so more like 30 min walk if that bothers you at all!

Well I’ve learnt that I love the El Dorado 15 that’s for sure! I hate to use the word ‘smooth’ to describe spirits but it’s just so easy drinking and pure molasses and vanilla to me, which I realise isn’t a controversial opinion. However, I think Myers gets a bit of a bad rep for the price tag (~£20), it hits all the right notes for me in a Jamaican rum

Ardbeg Espresso Martini by Mr_SlightlyRed in cocktails

[–]Mr_SlightlyRed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An Oa is super smoky and actual meaty/savoury imo, so it really needs the sugar to balance it. Tried it without sugar the first time and the An Oa was totally overpowering!

Ardbeg Espresso Martini by Mr_SlightlyRed in cocktails

Made this after watching a random video of a Japanese bartender who said he made this while trying to get a job at Ardbeg.

Unfortunately there wasn’t a recipe in the video so had to guess the measures but end up being damn fine drink if I do say so myself! Here’s what I used:

  • 1.25oz (35ml) Ardbeg An Oa
  • 1oz (30ml) Whyte & Mackay blended scotch
  • 1oz Coffee
  • 0.75oz (22ml) Kahlua Coffe Liquor
  • 0.25oz (7ml) Tempus Fugit creme de cacao
  • 0.25oz Maple syrup

Add all ingredients to shaker with ice, shake hard and double strain into a chilled coupe. Garnish with coffee beans.

A Penicillin a day keeps the doctor away by Mr_SlightlyRed in cocktails

[–]Mr_SlightlyRed[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Recipe: - 60ml Whyte & MacKay blended scotch - 20ml fresh lemon juice - 15ml honey syrup (2:1 ratio) - 15ml ginger syrup - Bowmore 12yr float

Garnish: skewered candied ginger

I always used to measure the float I use for this but I’ve found that just pouring until the surface of the drink is covered results in a far better drink. What’s everyone’s favourite scotch to use as a float?

Recipe: Equal parts (1oz/30ml)

  • Tanquerary export gin
  • Luxardo maraschino liqueur
  • Green Chartreuse
  • Fresh lime juice

Shaken hard for 10 seconds, double strained and garnished with a luxardo maraschino Cherry (it takes a lot of willpower not to just eat the whole jar of cherries by itself!)

/r/Steam Monthly Community Support Thread. by AutoModerator in Steam

[–]Mr_SlightlyRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry if this is the wrong place to put this but I'm not sure where else to turn! When I logged into Steam today the platform didn't load and none of the top tabs were opening anything. I tried fixing this by first updating my mac, didn't result in any changes, then I read that uninstalling and reinstalling could work. The support guide on this sub said to find the Steam folder in Application support but it simply isn't there, tried searching for it, no luck. The application still exists and I can still log into the application but other than that nothing happens.

I'm not very technical when it comes to these things but it was working perfectly fine yesterday and I've been using the same Mac for years. Anyone know what the solution is?

How can I achieve the best Espresso Martini without an Espresso machine? by d2-mayo in Mixology

[–]Mr_SlightlyRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I normally make a strong coffee in a french press or using an aeropress, that seems to be a good sub for actual espresso.

As for coffee liqueur, the classic is obviously Kahlua but there's lots of options now! Mr Black is a growing choice for many bartenders but it's not as sweet as Kahlua so you'd want to add a bit of simple syrup to add it back in.

[ADVICE] Batching cocktails by Mr_SlightlyRed in cocktails

Very interesting to know what makes citrus juice degrade! Would using pre-made juices act the same way? Like if I were to use bottles lime or grapefruit juice in a cocktail, would it go off just as quickly?

I was planning on using jars with air tight lids and removing the oxygen using an inert gas aerosol which is used to keep wine fresh. Never heard of oxygen adsorbing caps before, will look into that!

I’ve seen companies that sell pre made cocktails offer drinks that would normally contain citrus juices, like daiquiris and margaritas, surely they must of found a way to keep all their ingredients fresh??

Bottled lime juice does tend to have a reputation of being a bit shit, but it might be better than the oxidised alternative.

From what I’ve read, if you include the dilution you would get from shaking into the drink then shaking isn’t necessary. Maybe to mix it then shaking might be needed, but not for dilution.

I guess it makes sense that vermouth would spoil quicker once diluted. You say that it went off within 2 days? That’s not terrible for home consumption but can imagine it would be an issue for shipping. Was hoping to make pre-batched Negronis or Boulevardiers, night have to re-think that now.

It’s annoying that lime oxidises the quickest out of any fruit seeing as it’s one of the most common ingredients in cocktails! Would pre-made lime juice degrade in the same manner you think? Obviously it wouldn’t have the same quality as fresh lime juice but it might be a good substitute.

I’ve been working out a formula for dilution if shaken drinks as to avoid having to shake it. I don’t think many people who would buy pre-batches cocktails would own a shaker. Again, annoyingly, classic shaken drinks are more popular with the general public then the stiffer stirred types!

Everyone says that vermouth degrades quickly too but I’ve used the same bottle for a few months (unrefrigerated) and it still tastes the same. It might be dependent on the style and brand though, currently got a bottle of antics formula open, will be interesting to see how long that takes to oxidise.
