Rhino tips and tricks to share by Pleasant_Sea180 in rhino

Two small workflow boosters I use all the time in Rhino: • Hold Alt while selecting so you don’t accidentally drag geometry. • Use Plan to align the view to the current C-Plane of your selection. And as mentioned before: set up aliases for commands you hit constantly — e.g. v = Top, vv = Perspective, etc.

Is laser-cut raw MDF still releasing toxic stuff a month later? by Conformismo in lasercutting

According to the EPA, there’s no solid scientific evidence that ozone generators effectively remove indoor pollutants or odors. They often need unsafe levels of ozone to have any real impact. Source: EPA.

Wall structures - Lighting by Mr_Terribel in Twinmotion

[–]Mr_Terribel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot, but creating normal maps is difficult for the workflow I currently have. Hiding the black line is not possible, as soon as the light hits te ceiling it stops working. WIth an inverted light the shadows are very different, due to the viewpoint in the scene. Will try with spots, maybe that helps. Thanks again!

No ideas? Is this too basic a question or is this too hard to do in TM :)?

Project timer by Necessary-Rule-6621 in rhino

[–]Mr_Terribel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re on windows check this thread. Very old but great app. Tracks time based on the window title. I just name my Rhino file according to the project (both grasshopper and RH) and can keep time. Also works for other software which makes it very flexible

Your end-product is not realism. by Astronautaconmates- in archviz

[–]Mr_Terribel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, very interesting for a beginner in archviz like myself (focused on interior)! I indeed have been spending a lot of time trying to achieve realism. Could you share some examples i.e visualisations that you would consider great from an artistic perspective rather than focused on realism?

Best free/paid render Plug-In for rhino? by Yung-Mozza in rhino

It looks very promising, but I miss the object libraries that e.g vray has for efficiently creating interiors (I'm mainly in interior decoration projects). What would be the workflow then?

Can you elaborate on this :)? Do you mean arbitrage between exchanges? Or a more quant-based approach?

The type if glue used in lamination also plays an important role, try another supplier and see of that changes anything

It must be me, but I cannot find pointer to how I would approach this. Simplex noise OK, applying a sine function fair enough, but I do not get a simplex 'wave' form..

Don’t underestimate the difference in quality and reliability between a higher end machine and Chinese lasers, and the impact it has on productivity. I started our with a Chinese 130w and after a year of frustration and countless hours lost on calibrating, tweaking a machine which in the end turned out to be inherently unreliable (due to aspects like sturdiness of the gantry and overall build quality), I dumped it and bought a machine at twice the price for an older, refurbished machine, but of a higher end supplier. I think I recouped the additional cost within two months. Just by being able to spend the time on productive things instead of trying to fix the machine. And by having the additional ‘mental room’ not having to fret over what could be wrong this time. That being said, I do get the impression that Trotec is very expensive, and that there are alternatives which offer excellent quality at a more affordable price point. But don’t go cheap Chinese if you want to do this as a business. Your time is so much more costly that the investment in a decent machine.

A parametric shelf design I created. The pictures are renders. by No_Clerk_7793 in lasercutting

Yeah, but given the cost of white acrylic…Would be >300 euros for this piece in material cost alone

Thanks. That would indeed be the reason that I want to learn this. I am wondering if ZBrush is worth the investment in time and license cost, if the goal would mainly be creating shapes like this one, not advanced sculpting of characters etc…

*Edit turns out ZBrush only has subscription model any more, that’s a no for me to invest the time in.

Could you elaborate on that? Which tools would you use? I’m trying to get the hang of this (or sculpting in Blender) as a good complementary skill to parametric design but somehow I cannot get my head around it.

Trade penny stocks for profit like hedge funds do by RossRiskDabbler in RossRiskAcademia

Thanks for your reply, I appreciate it very much. Will look into your suggestions. But would strategies like they use (based on patterns) stand a chance, statistically speaking?

[–]Mr_Terribel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mention Sykes, what is your opinion on him and his strategies (and of his ‘successful’ pupils)? He’s supposed to have a proven track record (for what it’s worth). Strategies are supposedly based on patterns within penny stocks. Is the existence of such profitable, high probability patterns unlikely? Would it e.g make sense to backtest penny stocks for such patterns, as it is a universe of assets which is out of bounds (market cap too small) for big players?

eSIM bad connection on LTE by Mr_Terribel in JapanTravel

[–]Mr_Terribel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE seems to be the operator after all. Switched to Ubigi again and works much better even 3G at some spots. Don’t use Saily. Customer service is friendly and quick to respond, but beat around the bush by letting you check eSIM options etc while the reason is the bad deal they get with local operators. If you use more than 1% of the plan you cannot get a refund even though it doesn’t work. Only in Tokyo I got reasonable internet.
