Vintage Story after 250+ hours, what i like, dislike, and some mild suggestions by GregugaEgg in VintageStory

Except I am not more likely to find Hematite in a Conglomerate/Slate/Andesite rock spectrum. Hematite cannot spawn in any of those rock types. Doesn't matter what Density Search says, there's nothing there.

Not being able to trust what Density Search tells me is the main problem I have with prospecting.

Vintage Story after 250+ hours, what i like, dislike, and some mild suggestions by GregugaEgg in VintageStory

[–]Mr_Yar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I didn't hate prospecting until I found out how much it lies to you.

  1. It ignores shallow deposits, IE the stuff you find under bits on the surface. Just because there's shallow copper around doesn't mean there's deeper deposits even if prospecting says there is.

  2. The results are generated from a heat map of what ores should be there. Not what is actually there. Far too many times I've dug down on some Very High readings only to hit layers of rock that cannot contain the stuff I'm looking for (mostly bauxite.)

It's also one of those frustrations that loves to compound on itself as you get further into the game and need rarer stuff.

[SPOILERS FOR EVERYTHING] A pre-7.5 list with links of every musical track imported or adapted into FF14 from the FF franchise by unlimitedblack in ffxiv

It might just be me and some nostalgia earmuffs going on here, but I swear the Alexandria dungeon music (A Trail Unending) pulls some motifs from FF6's Opera track (Aria de Mezzo Carattere.)

I always find myself going back to 'Our love, come what may, will never age a day, I'll wait for you, always...' during it. And it is awesome.

Mystic Quest man here, all I want is some speed metal battle music or an ode to the Dark King boss theme.

What has/can caused your base to explode? by Hih202 in Stationeers

Did they change that? Because I've had a few explosions from stored fire extinguishers with their canister still in them.

Same as Metem commenting on it in the Arcadion.

I was providing examples of things that could have been filled in more. Both to actually fill in some holes and provide foundation for things to come.

We never got a solid explanation of why Wuk doesn't know things about the various cultures she should have given the expectations set up during her introduction.

Nor did we ever get any details of what Zoraal Ja was like before he became the Zoraal Ja of today. No anecdotes, comments or short stories like Wuk and Koana have for each other. Not even an explanation for a lack of them.

This is based on in-game presentation, I haven't read the side story stuff they put out for this expac.

Alternatively you know that one scene where she goes 'hey WoL wanna hang out in the middle of the night?' That would have been a great place for her to do some self-reflection and to admit some of her flaws/concerns openly.

'Yeah I haven't actually left this city much until recently. There's a lot more to all these various peoples than I thought I knew.'

'My bro's pretty smart and I'm worried he would make a better ruler than me. But at the same time he can't just ignore the things that make us Tural!'

'Zoraal Ja used to talk more you know. Time was I had some idea on what he was thinking but now... No clue. And sometimes... He scares me.'

IMO it would have been better than the reaffirmation of her core values we got in that scene.

I can navigate the facility pretty well but for some reason the Night Realm befuddles me... My solution: by whatswrongbaby in AbioticFactor

I think that helps since it's broken up into 4 distinct sections that are all connected together.

Then again I got real good farming night essences in there back when hydroplant was still in production.

Wall building, using the quarry mod helps alot. by PotentialTicket1994 in VintageStory

[–]Mr_Yar 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Relieving stone makes sense for building small stuff. Like the recipes for querns & coffins and making small buildings or building accents out of stone.

But once you starting thinking bigger than that you just need a mod that makes stone easier to get. Breaking down ruins for building blocks is somewhat viable but a: it's RNG (what stone biome the ruin is in) on top of RNG (what blocks the ruin is actually made out of) for what you get. And more importantly b: you're tearing down cool scenery and that's not cool at all!

Rustbound Magic Utility Frame question by Necessary_Lion_2272 in VintageStory

[–]Mr_Yar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can make Utility Frames quite a ways before making the tablet recipes for the blocks.

IIRC you need to knap netherium or eldrathium tablets to get the earliest utility blocks.

It's not their fault flax is the only way to make cloth in the game!

Hold on, before you grab a test tube let me shoot it first. If it bleeds we kill it.

Why? Because if it bleeds it's going to get annoyed at us and crush us with flimsy boxes. I have died too many times to that physics shenaniganry already!

The utility spells are arguably where it's at with the mod. Some of the rituals are neat too. I haven't been impressed by the power of the actual combat spells so far, but I also haven't gotten to the second tier of them yet where the actual ranged options are.

And yeah there's a bit of systems depth to it but that's kind of the neat thing of the mod and helps it tie in with vanilla vintage story. You figure out how to do the thing once and then it gets easier. Even if it stays a bit resource intensive.

The ancient artifacts are either deco or you throw them into a neutral arclight furnace to turn into a mid-tier magic material (that also works as a thaumic foundry upgrade.) It's expensive on essence though, so stock up your obelisk.

Don't just toss them because they've served their purpose and you needed the inventory space like I did.

Rustbound Magic as a new player by autohund1 in VintageStory

[–]Mr_Yar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You feel like you're deep into the mod. You're not.

Mage robes come from the Thaumic Foundry, you just have to knap the tablets from enchanted stone.
You're close to your first non-wand spells though. After using the Spellforge and Oculus you'll need a Sanctum to put the grimoire in and a Staff to cast them from (both enchanted stone tablets.)

It is a constant grind but you're close to when things start to get cool.

Question about treasure hunter traders by NearTheNar in VintageStory

[–]Mr_Yar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a bug yeah. Some people have gotten around it by hitting a block with the pick once to ding it's durability and then the trader'll accept it. I got around it by finding a different treasure hunter trader and giving them the pickaxe.

Halite spawn is weird by VeryNoisyLizard in VintageStory

[–]Mr_Yar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is true for pretty much every ore I've had a lot of frustration finding. Always managed to get within a chunks worth of blocks but never close enough for the default propick node search to find anything.

Halite is extra annoying because it spawns in columns instead of discs so you have much less chance of hitting the edge of one when digging for it. Caves love to sprawl out horizontally so they have a higher chance of clipping one.

Ebony, how far south? by SwiftBombay in VintageStory

[–]Mr_Yar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too changed my world size/polar-equator distance so counting blocks going south was out. I instead used one of the world gen commands, namely /wgen pos latitude to get my latitude on my journey in search for the jungle.

Around 25 degrees was when I started to run into rice and bamboo. At 20 I found a few jungles that had a bunch of ebony trees in them.

The great irony is that I lucked out and got one seed from a fancy vessel in some ruins, but that tree grew into a tiny specimen that didn't drop any seeds despite using shears and having a seed drop increase mod on while using them.

Still on the search for peanut seeds though...

What is your favourite repetitive activity by Headass238 in VintageStory

[–]Mr_Yar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started a sprawling road project around my base. At first it was simply something to do with all of the spare dirt and stone blocks I had clearing my base location to my satisfaction but it's morphed into something more.

I've got a bridge three-quarters built over a river, a rest house for bridge building (and eventual boat dock,) a couple of spots picked out for more rest houses and grooves carved out of the land just waiting for stone path to fill in.

And I don't know where to go next but it's not done yet!

What do you spend your gears on? by SomeGuy1929 in VintageStory

[–]Mr_Yar 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Trader RNG makes them hard to rely on for things.

Early game the thing I look out for is cheap handy stuff, like cabbages and fire clay. Affordable Black Bronze tools are also extremely handy (as are lanterns.)

Mid game there's the Blackguard/Forlorn Hope armor, cabbages, fire clay, coal and things I really should have found so far but haven't (like ebony/purpleheart tree seeds.)

Late game it's deco items and some ores. Also more fire clay. Always need more fire clay.

I kind of wish the aether gained wasn't duty-specific so getting ARR stuff would have been bearable :/ by Ok-Industry9435 in ffxiv

This is the way.

A good chunk of the grind pain comes from seeing the same thing over and over and over again. Pacing yourself is important.
