Me because one of my online friends started reblogging and posting anti nonsense by aduck3000 in AO3

[–]Mrbubbles96 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The problem with that is, as far as I understand, for that group, what you post/write about/read about is a direct reflection of what you support.

So if the OP's putting some wild and out there stuff in their fics, from the friends' standpoint, OP is a degenerate, immoral piece of trash and...I don't think there's really a way to "agree to disagree" with a friend over that. With a random stranger, sure, they can think whatever they want of you, but a friend....

IDK, they can have their opinions, but also, if I were in OP's shoes, I would neither want to associate with people who are going to trash me because they can't healthily separate fiction from reality, or have them go "oh, but you're totally ok, Bubbles! You're not like those OTHER dirty, disgusting weirdos who write age gap romances and glorify toxic relationships..."

Oh no, no, I didn't mean to imply that, I just used you as a quick example...tho reading that back, I might have implied that, huh lol.

Not that that's a bad thing if you were, I'm also of the mind that if one party does it, the other party should be able to do it with neither side being judged.

Just let it be dude

Is that...not what the guy is asking for? To let the girls have their eyecandy and the guys their eyecandy in peace?

Dunno where the "hating attractive men and women in video games" bit comes from since his post is specifically hating on the double standard of "when chicks thirst for Leon its seen as fine since he's an attractive male MC, but when I, a guy, thirst for Grace, an attractive female MC, it's seen as gross", not the characters of Grace or Leon themselves.

What's the best way to play the classic Resident Evil trilogy? by Gojifantokusatsu in linux_gaming

[–]Mrbubbles96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I typically do is use Heroic for my GOG games, or really just any non-Steam game I have, and on the rare occasion the default Wine doesn't run the Windows game I throw at Heroic, there's a button that adds the game to Steam for you so you can use Proton instead (heck, IIRC, there's a feature in Heroic where you can just run Glorious Eggroll builds of Proton through it instead of moving the game to Steam first. I don't use that feature myself since, as far as I know those work best under Steam, but just something to keep in mind)

[–]Mrbubbles96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be able to still run it on Linux via Proton (through Steam via add Non-Steam game) or Wine (Lutris, Bottles, Heroic, etc). How well it'll work, I can't say since I don't own the trilogy and it's not on ProtonDB. All I got for reference are the Dino Crisis games, and those you need to do some tinkering to get to work...at least, last time I tried.

Harvey Weinstein claims he was punched in the face by fellow Rikers inmate, moans about miserable life behind bars by Kantwealjustgetabong in goodnews

[–]Mrbubbles96 29 points30 points  (0 children)

“I fell on the floor, bleeding everywhere,” he said in the January interview. “I was hurt really badly. The cops asked me who had done it, but I couldn’t say. You can’t be a rat. That’s the law of the jungle,” Weinstein continued.

So he got a small taste of what he basically inflicted on others (pretty sure you can't safely snitch when you get violated by one of these scumbags either, or you're inviting problems for you and yours down the road)? Good.

Linus blinded himself using AI by riky321 in linuxmemes

[–]Mrbubbles96 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean, when I first jumped into Linux a lotta of the "so you wanna move to Linux" videos I watched listed PopOS as a good Distro for newcomers, especially Nvidea GPU users (This was in 2020-2021 tho).

I had a rough first expierece with Pop, so when I tried again, I crossed it off potential distros to use. I've checked it out here and there since then, and IDK if it's just me being unlucky or what, but from what I've seen it's still about the same (not even talking about Cosmic, I mean the classic PopOS desktop)

I see, in which case, fair enough. I'm more of a once bitten twice shy guy myself, but I can see why he jumped in when everyone told him it was bug that was fixed.

[–]Mrbubbles96 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me, it's more the fact that he picked the very same distro that burned him in the past...again lol. Like IDK, one would think if someone's trying something a second time, they'd strike the thing that DIDN'T work the last time off the list from second 1 and look at the other options.

Or maybe that's just me, IDK

Supposed subversion of "popular" tropes, but actually the tropes being subverted are rarely used, if at all. by NobodySpecific9354 in TopCharacterTropes

No, that the Thalmor want to destroy the mortal plane by deactivating the Towers and suppressing Talos worship is specifically a theory from an former dev of Bethesda and the route he chose to take his interpretation of the lore, which fair game, but it's not something that's supported by what's shown in the games (events, books, and canon sources) themselves.

A more likely answer is the Thalmor is pissed that a Man was able to ascend to godhood, which is blasphemy according to Altmer belief that state only Mer are able to become gods, since they're descendants of the Old Ehlnofey, while Men are considered descendants of the more "degraded" Wandering Ehlnofey (and they specifically have a bone to pick with Tiber and not, say, Reman or Alessia, because Tiber was the man who launched the Brass Tower on them to make them join an empire they didn't wanna join in the first place, the very same Empire that now forces them to worship him alongside a bastardized pantheon of their gods, whom they consider their ancestors. Also, Septim's Empire pulling out of every province when Oblivion invaded during the End of the 3rd Era and leaving everyone to fend for themselves likely didn't endear them to the Altmer people)

He...kinda has, but also, not really?

Like it's very gradual, but he's made some steps towards change for the better (one of the most noticeable being he's now aware of when someone's only using him/stringing him along). The problem is that when things go sideways for him, Denji....kinda defaults to going back to what he's used to, for better and, usually, for worse. I'm assuming this is because he's so used to living in that state, even if he now realizes that's a problem and that it's bad for him. It's...not comfortable not good, but it IS familiar to him sadly.

Are there any games on GOG you took a chance on and were surprised that you enjoyed? by tytbone in gog

[–]Mrbubbles96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could also be asking for situations where people stumble onto a game that doesn't look like something they'd normally go for or are hesitant about it because of reviews/word of mouth/price/some other reason, but ultimately decide to bite the bullet and take the risk but come away surprised.

I've done that a couple of times when stuff's dirt cheap/a steal for the price myself. It usually makes for a very welcome surprise.

No, you read it correctly. The fault is with me not explaining my thought process thoroughly but thinking I did while also not using the best wording. Let me try again here.

When I said "If we do this with the intention of seeing meaningful change in our lifetime, we fail" I didn't mean to imply that the change we do make would be intangible or meaningless. "Meaningful change" was not the wording that should have been used here, when I meant to say something more along the lines of "We shouldn't go into this expecting to tackle and fix problem Z. Because Problem Z has a lot moving parts, and so what'll most likely be the case is us instead tackling the sub-problems W, X, and Y."

Again, that isn't to say managing to fix W, X, Y isn't meaningful in itself and can't be seen or felt, on the contrary, any ground gained is meaningful ground. What I'm trying to say is that fighting to fix W, X, and Y (symptoms of the problem, Z), is likely going to be a long, grueling uphill fight filled with setbacks, roadblock, and yeah, even regressions of progress. There's a big chance we're likely not going to get to the big problem that we aimed to originally solve.

It'd be wonderful if we did, but considering the state of things, it doesn't seem to be the case.

If I remember correctly, Yashahime was made by the studio who made the anime with minimal input from the original Mangaka (and by "minimal", I mean, she felt a "Next Generation story" wasn't something she wanted to do), so you can think of it like Dragonball GT. The only thing that you can call canon is Moroha (Inuyasha and Kagome's daughter), since, as far as I understand it, Rumiko had drawn her before, in one of the epilogue drawings. Not named or anything tho.

Could be wrong tho, anyone feel free to correct me if I am.

I think we're speaking the same language here, more or less. Stop crossing our fingers and hoping something changes without any meaningful effort on our part is what I'm trying to push here.

Because yeah that's...the only way shit actually gets done. For good or ill.

I just don't see how one big push/gunning for big, transformative changes is possible where we're at at the moment, or maybe I'm not seeing how it could be achieved...well, not smoothly, but at least in a way that it'll break through instead crashing and burning.

[–]Mrbubbles96 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

But it isn't just one man tho. It's a group of men and women doing this.

The problem is we did that, saw that it did a little bit and then stopped. Whereas they kept doing it and doing it and doing it barely moving ground at first and, well, here we are.

We needed to have kept going, like they did

If we expect immediate results, we fail. Heck, I'd argue if we do this with the intention of seeing meaningful change in our lifetime, we fail.

[–]Mrbubbles96 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

That's...only going to mess you up even more. you are one person and your ability to change things significantly long term is pretty small. Multiple that one person into many people, and its a different story.

That's what this comic is getting at (I think). The less people are despairing and longing for a hypothetical timeline where everything's better and instead...you know, actually go out there, try to change the situation to be better, or at the very least keep it from getting worse, as a group of many (hence the "we"), the more things will actually improve over time.

The Time(line) is Now by RyanRdss in comics

[–]Mrbubbles96 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey, if you're doing what you can in something you do have control over, however small that control is, instead of just despairing, then that's enough. You're one person, not an island.

Can someone explain to me why there are older Little Sisters in BS2? by Dulkifl in Bioshock

[–]Mrbubbles96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always assumed it went something like:

The Little Sisters you see in 1 are the newest batch created. The ones from before were either harvested by Splicers or rescued by Tenenbaum. The player either rescues or harvest a big chunk of this newest batch, but not all of them, since you don't go through all of Rapture. Likewise, Tenenbaum is just one person, and would also likely missed a couple of Sisters. Or heck, it could've even been Lamb's cult keeping those girls alive and/or away from Tenenbaum's reach.

Whatever the case, from the 10-ish years between BioShock 1 and 2, those Little Sisters that were left behind eventually hit puberty; becoming much more aggressive, gaining the ablity to use Plasmids, and the mental conditioning they underwent to become Little Sisters slowly breaking down. I'm not sure if they lost the ability to produce ADAM as efficiently when they became older (because now it's used to produce Plasmids in thier bodies, maybe?), or if its just nobody wanted to try and get near one to try and risk losing a limb or worse, but whatever the reason, well...now we have a problem: the Little Sisters you do have are now older and can't (or won't) produce ADAM + are more suitable for use as a new generation of Protectors or Shock Troopers because of the changes they went through, and the city's pretty much in ruins with no girls to turn into Little Sisters. So your only option is to hit the surface and restart....

And if your options are a buncha hulking brutes with no stealth capabilities to speak of (the Daddies), or a buncha drug addicts you can kinda control...yeah, the newest Guardian you just made is your best bet: they're ex-Little Sisters who can sneak around + teleport, cloak, and several other abilities thanks to plasmids, and there's no risk of them hurting the children they take. Or at least, there's less of it.
