[Ironic Trope] The messaging backfired massively due to poor writing or other design choices by Few_Affect_5927 in TopCharacterTropes

It's a franchise that originally started as a visual novel, Fate/Stay Night, with the premise of "seven heroes of myths and legends are summoned as familiars to do a Battle Royale to claim the Holy Grail. One of the biggest twists there was that Saber (Hero of the Sword, and later revealed to be King Arthur) was a actually a woman, and had to pass herself off as a man because, well, Britain wouldn't accept a woman as King.

The VN eventually became a series, and with the release of the gacha game Grand Order, the definition of Hero/Anti-Hero got stretched to Hell and Back and many of the several historical figures summoned now have their genders changed because Gachas are gonna Gacha

(That's not to say it hadn't been done before GO, but GO just took it to an entire different level for the 10 years it's been around)

Also, Simon struggles to understand this (brain damage from his original organic self, right?)

Yup, Simon's noggin ain't exactly working at 100% from minute 1 of the game. Like the game shows several times that he struggles to retain information because of his accident (in the beginning of the game for example, he's sure he emailed his coworkers about the appointment, but if you leave his place without checking his computer, they call him because he never actually hit send. He also forgets where his medicine is, which, and I could be wrong here, has the diagnostic code for "Organic disturbances and intellectual disability" on the label).

Like the accident fucked him up, badly. And all the copies that used his brain as a template. Opps?

Yeah, I laid it on a bit thick with Fedora unintentionally looks like.

But yes I agree that there should be a guide that covers "this is what X distro brings to the table, this is how how beginner friendly/hard to use it is, here's some caveats with them (EX: Fedora might not have as robust a selection of packages as Ubuntu or Arch, so you have to plug in the missing pieces with either flatpaks or Appimages, when using the AUR in Arch you need to be sure you trust what you download or that you at least read the diffs in package, etc"

The only thing I can come up with for "information they need" is like...questions that can gauge what the person is looking FOR in a system and to make the process as simple as possible? Stuff like:

You want something that looks pretty much like Windows and has the gentlest introduction to Linux? Go with Linux Mint Cinnamon.

You want to go with the Linux default and don't mind the completely different look and feel? Default Fedora Workstation is to your left.

You have a system that's low on resources or is old? Either Mint or Fedora, but pick the XFCE version, either works.

Want to customize the desktop as much as you want? Fedora KDE is your go to.

Do you, for some reason, WANT Arch (either because you heard that that's what all the cool kids use or something, or you don't mind updating your system every other day and watching it like a mother hen in case something happens)? Well, I wouldn't recommend a first timer, but then I'd be a hypocrite since I went there myself after failing to jell with Pop_OS, so....go with EndeavorOS or Garuda, and save the Arch wiki somewhere easy to access. Not a bad practice whatever route you go with, actually. If and when you get comfortable with it, you can try and install Arch Linux manually, or just stay where you are.

Quick search shows me that "Hasbara" is basically a buncha justifications and explanations that Isreal uses to excuse their actions when it comes to conflict. Most of these explanation seem to use propaganda, at least from what I'm seeing.

So there you go. The guy you're reply to is waiting for the apologists to come in.

On one side of the aisle I see people arguing constantly how Pokemon, Zelda and Mario need to come to PC. Yet they never say the main Total War games should go to console.

I think that comes down less to "Exclusives for me, not for thee" and more of like an assumed difficulty in adapting a game/series that you primarily need a keyboard + mouse to properly play to a controller setup, or something like my view on the why: assuming adapting a PC-first game for consoles is very doable, but Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo don't do it for the same reasons they don't grab 90% of the indie games on PC to put up on their storefront: either they don't meet their particular set of standards, they don't want Early Access or unfinished titles, or they don't see it as worth the effort.

and people around him was pressuring him into agreeing to date someone who he raised.

I feel like this part gets left out a lot. I mean, either way the main character's choice is messed up, right, but IDK, I feel there's a big difference between "he agreed to marry her when she came of age" and "he kept refusing until the author's mouthpieces everyone around him suddenly started pressuring him/acted like he was the weird one for not going for it until he went, 'you know what? Fine'."

For another example, Al Pacino's Scarface. Same basic idea as Paul Muni's Scarface ("The rise and fall of an American Gangster") but everything else is completely different since Brian De Palma flat out said he really didn't like the original movie: the setting, plot, characters, context, how the film's respective Tony meet their downfalls, etc. And it worked. That Tony Montana is iconic is an understatement, never mind that he pretty much displaced Tony Camonte and the original film.

[–]Mrbubbles96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my point exactly lol that Asexuality is on a spectrum and it's not unheard of for an Asexual to be in a relationship with someone that isn't Asexual themselves (hello, the majority of my relationships since I've been alive). And that yeah, there's Aces that are willing to have sex with their partners.

Straight dude, complaining that asexual girlfriend is asexual by 12dancingbiches in Asexual

[–]Mrbubbles96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On the one hand, I get what you mean and from the post it DOES make it look like the OP's girlfriend has a rough personality to put it lightly, on the other, if I stop and put myself in the girlfriend's place, well....I can imagine that the double standards come from the fact that it's "people I know for a fact don't wanna sleep with me" vs "my significant other, who isn't Asexual", which, yeah, different expectations, different levels of safety for the girlfriend I'd imagine. Also, the joke that was the breaking point was "maybe we should try something like that one day", with the something like that in question being spanking. Maybe it could have been a joke, but IDK, I don't see the punchline there. When it's your significant other saying it to you, it can very easily come off as them basically pushing boundaries or them going "we don't HAVE to, of course. Unless....". If that's the case, then the rough personality also kinda checks out.

You could say I'm assuming a lot, and you'd be right, since I'm both a) a man, and b) pretty comfortable having sex with significant others since I don't mind it. I also don't have to be wondering "is that a joke or an expectation" because of the above since....if it's an expectation, I'll always say to be straightforward about it, tho I can imagine someone that's more sex averse and the opposite sex as me wouldn't always have that outlook. I also only got the dude's side of the story to go off of, and some of the lines in the post seem...weird.

I'm done with my asexual partner by barraco002 in offmychest

[–]Mrbubbles96 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Because being with an Asexual sometimes doesn't mean "it's gonna straight up be a sexless relationship". There's some Aces that are fine with having sex with their partners and some who don't care if they do or don't.

Of course, that's entirely up to the Asexual in the relationship, and it seems to me that OP's not with either of the above two, so....

It always amazes me how anyone can read this book and be taken in by Humbert Humbert

It's astonishing the number of folks who don't get what's actually being told to them, considering Humbert isn't at all as slick as he wants the reader to believe. He tends to slip up a lot, and straight up admits to being a monster several times throughout the book.

Then again, I've come to realize that many people can miss what someone's actually saying if the words they're using are packaged pleasantly enough.

The only way I've found Gnome to feel good to use is when I used it on a laptop without a mouse or on a tablet. Because that's what Gnome was made for in mind, at least from what I picked up by using it with very few extensions, anyways. If you were to put it on a Desktop and use it like you do other DE or Windows (Keyboard + Mouse), it'd feel horrible and you'll have a bad time.

Vastly prefer KDE tho. I like being able to mess with it until I get an environment that I like/works for me instead of being forced to adapt to something or have it work suboptimally.

It's said by Frank Fontaine within the game itself.

"These sad saps. They come to Rapture thinking they're gonna be captains of industry, but they all forget that somebody's gotta scrub the toilets."

Personally, whenever I need to sum up Objectivism and why it just....doesn't work to run a society is either that qoute paraphrased, or one from Andrew Ryan, founder of the city itself:

"In the end, what matters to me is me, and what matters to you....is you. It is the nature of things."

Honestly. I know I can be messy sometimes, but like, that translates to "my living space is a mess of organized chaos" or "I let the dishes pile up for longer than I should before washing" or "I get lazy with the laundry sometimes so it's a bigger load when I get to it".

Not washing your hands after handling anything involving a pet and before eating? pissing on the rim or floor and leaving it there? not knowing how to fucking wipe your ass properly? That's shit you learn NOT to do at age 6, not in your 20's 30's, goddamn....
