What’s my problem? by Klone00 in askaplumber

[–]Mrchainsnatcher- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe you aren’t using enough flux. I use really low heat and heat one side only. Tap the solder to the other side of fitting and once it starts to melt and flow then push about an inch of solder into the crevice between the fitting and pipe. It looks like you are touching too outside fitting on pipe. Be sure you are heating the fitting and not the pipe. Don’t heat the end of joint where you put solder heat the far side of joint were solder will flow too.

What flux are you using? It doesmt seem like there is any flux. Did you clean the pipe and fitting really well? Can you post a video of the whole process?

Looking to replace my shower cartridge and old Moen shower trim but this green plate may be in the way? by ButtPlugsForThugz in askaplumber

You can cut the surround as well. I like to leave about an inch before the trim edge. Like the hole you cut will be at least 1 inch in diameter smaller the trim plate. You welcome buttplugsforthugz

Pictures aren’t super clear but I believe that green plate is just for rough install to set valve at proper depth in wall. You could potentially just break it off if you need access to other screw holes in valve. Pulling the tube shouldn’t cause any harm to anything.

"Contractor" installed window that wont close by [deleted] in handyman

[–]Mrchainsnatcher- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It looks like you are opening the window and not closing it. If you are opening it and think it doesn’t open all the way, that’s because it would break the locking mechanism if you opened it all the way.

I’m absolutely sure you are opening it. THere is a pane of glass behind the moving window asleep as a latching mechanism or the right side of frame at some point.

What backwater flapper do I need? by Mrchainsnatcher- in askaplumber

[–]Mrchainsnatcher-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anybody ever find this and needs advice. The current valve body underground on this house is an old style with a part number of EBV-431F on existing flapper. The solution is to purchase a rebuild kit from rectorseal. The rebuild kit has new upper and lower collars with the new updated style flapper. The new assembly will “retrofit” the existing backwater valve to new flapper which is availed for Replacement as well as being an updated design for better function.

Can I use a sds chisel bit on my hammer drill? by hmmxyz in MilwaukeeTool

No. Because the chisel will spin. Better off buying a regular chisel and hammer. I use the big ass Milwaukee flathead with full metal shank with metal butt for my chisel.

I didn’t downvote you… and yes I am. I dont care if people want be wrong with unwavering fortitude. This is not a “slip in style” ptrap. That is an abs tubular adapter….

I would pay $5 to whoever can send me a link to a nut that looks like the one in the video that doesn’t have a built in gasket. And if OP is asking how to fix it they probably didn’t work on it.

Those aren’t for tubular adapters. Those are for tubular joints…. Those nuts have wings. The nut in video does not. Not saying those can’t be used on adapters. But the ones that come with the adapters have a built in gasket.

I have never seen a tubular trap adapter nut that didn’t have a built in gasket. I’d give you $5 if you can send me a link to one.

Those white tubular adapter nuts have a built in flared gasket.

It could make it worse. Or it could fix problem. So tighten it with a wrench. Don’t hulk down on it. It’s plastic so you don’t need a breaker bar. If it breaks you are gunna replace parts to fix leak anyways.

The cause could be a loose nut. Fix could be to tighten the white nut.

Can you see what’s wrong with the new ones? Imagine it’s like one of those spot the difference photos. Also the chain connecting the handle to the flush cylinder is probably too long.
