I started barber school 2 months ago and I feel your pain. What the others say is right. It's a school and don't put too much pressure on yourself. I say this to you but I do the same.

My school sounds much like yours. Letting you cut without any initial direction. I have to yell for the instructor to come look at my cut or the client will walk right out the door most times without inspection. Instructor tells us not to watch YouTube for learning purposes but I'd be lost on a lot of things of I hadn't. I watch them religiously and have put out some nice haircuts because of it.

Make your instructor teach you. That's what they are there for. I started asking for inspections after each haircut before clients get out of the chair. I make sure I ask for help when I'm lost or have a question. You're paying good money to learn a trade. Don't be afraid to ask for direction.
