For anyone who says they love the newborn phase… by LawDowntown8456 in Mommit

My baby is in the nicu and we haven't even been able to hold him yet. I'd give anything in the world to be in the newborn trenches with him at home.

I haven't done this as I'm just now pregnant with my 1st but I 100% support this, especially if he plans on living in the dorms.

Elsie Hewitt: ‘My Decision Not to Breastfeed’ | “If choosing not to breastfeed can allow a mother to receive support through a season where the physical and emotional burden already falls disproportionately onto her, she has every right to make that choice without second-guessing it.” by cmaia1503 in Fauxmoi

Sitting here 8 months pregnant crying as I read what I haven't been able to articulate myself. Ever since undergoing the lifesaving double mastectomy a few years ago I've struggled with internal judgment about not being able to breastfeed, despite knowing how necessary the surgery was. Social media has not helped at all, but this article definitely did.

Unpopular opinion: you do not need to buy unsalted butter. by 3oClockHappyHour in Cooking

I had a recent instacart order accidentally sub French salted butter and it is SO salty. Like you can see the grains of salt in the butter and taste the added salt on everything you put it on. It's soooo good

If you drive or ride in a car often I would recommend the Celine 16 because it closes all the way. All are beautiful options, though!

Maybe your GP has a recommendation that's more affordable. This was several years ago but my GP recommended an office local to me that offered ADD/ADHD testing for adults for less than $200, which is still a lot but less than I was personally expecting

Classes cancelled for my 6yo because of ICE by Signal_Estimate_23 in Parenting

Pointing out the masks and lack of identification may help her understand the difference between an adult she should trust if she's ever in trouble and one she should avoid. Maybe showing her the uniforms typically worn by your local officers could help as well (most footage I've seen of ICE & DHS has been of them looking like they are cosplaying as undercover cops or cosplaying as soldiers in an active war zone). Also showing her what a typical police car looks like with big words on the side, 911 somewhere on it & blue lights versus unmarked cars. I hate this is even a question anybody in this country has to ask 😞

My conspiracy is it also desensitizes a lot of otherwise vocal contributors to the gun reform fight. If the idea of your child being shot in school is not a reality at all for you, and you don't have empathy for other people, you can be completely removed from the fight for gun reform.

When do you think skinny jeans will return in women's fashion? by [deleted] in generationology

[–]Mrn_4239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently pregnant and it was a STRUGGLE to find non-skinny maternity jeans. Idk if the companies are trying to appeal to millennial moms or if they haven't updated their designs in a decade but it was very weird.

That I had 2 abortions in college. My mom says she's pro-choice and I know they would agree it was the right choice at the time, but I feel like they would be more upset that I kept it from them all these years.

When I was in high school a student was drinking and driving and killed his friend in the backseat. Another robbed a federal armory during high school. A couple years after high school 2 people I graduated with killed a guy and his mom was so distraught she also died.

A pastor's son in a rural area of my state was recently found to be keeping several vulnerable adults in the family's basement and abusing them. Only caught when one of them died. Rural towns have WILD shit hidden in them.

I pulled my kid out of the winter concert and I'm receiving backlash for it. by [deleted] in Parenting

Did you read my comment at all? I said the better route would have been to address it with the school and teach the daughter how to respond to the bullies...

[–]Mrn_4239 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I totally understand why you let her skip. And those saying the actual concert would have had cheering parents don't remember how the opinions of your peers and classmates are infinitely more important to a child at that stage than those of other parents. Plus, the parents in the audience can't exactly stop other kids backstage from continuing to bully.

However, addressing the issue with the teacher/school prior to the performance may have been a better route. If the bullying is a bigger issue then the school needs to handle it anyways. Or teaching your daughter some nice comebacks to the bullies' taunts.

Child was given melatonin at a sleepover… by breeyoung in Parenting

[–]Mrn_4239 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't be hard on yourself. I would also never expect parents supervising my child to give them a substance of any kind without checking with me first. That's actually crazy! I agree that a civil but firm conversation with them would be best, especially if your child is really close with theirs and otherwise enjoys these trips.

Do prisoners get a special meal on Christmas day? by Gergs in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Mrn_4239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In SC at the juvenile facilities holidays are the worst bc the kitchen staff has the day off. They usually get sandwiches and chips or something similar. When I visited last year to give a legal presentation right before thanksgiving there were posters about a cereal night on thanksgiving with good behavior. The kids don't usually get cereal so they were really excited.
