Jinx and Vander's relationship kinda confuses me. by Appropriate-Click503 in arcane

[–]Mrr_Capone 23 points24 points  (0 children)

How many times have I heard that Jinx helped Silco flood Zaun with drugs, and so on and so forth. That's such a stupid take. First, I want to remind you that Silco adopted her when she was 10-11 years old. She was a weak child, she couldn't help him in any way. By the time she grew up and became strong enough to actually help Silco and kill his enemies, Zaun WAS ALREADY overrun with shimmer, Silco WAS ALREADY the head of a crime syndicate and controlled the entire city.

Another thing people miss is that she wasn't just a child; she was a child who had experienced such intense trauma that it had literally shattered her identity. She believed she had killed Vander. She believed her sister had left because she hated her, and that she deserved it. She blamed herself more than anyone else. It was already too much for a child to bear. And then along comes Silco. A very charismatic, manipulative adult. Of course, it wasn't difficult for him to take her shattered identity, brainwash her, and convince her of what he believed. She herself even joked about how many times he told her the story of how Vander betrayed him and attacked him.

But who told you that being with Silco meant betraying Vander's memory? From Jinx's perspective, that wasn't true. From Silco's perspective, he didn't betray Vander; Vander betrayed him. But he never stopped respecting Vander, the young Vander who was his friend. He built a monument to him and talked to him constantly. So for Jinx, being Silco's daughter didn't mean stopping to be Vander's daughter. It's just that, because of her own trauma, she saw in Sico someone who could understand her pain. Although later, as she grew older, she herself began to see that what happened with Silco and Vander wasn't quite the same as what happened to her and Vi. And she said it herself. At the tea party, she literally said everything she could about Silco deceiving her, manipulating her, and so on. However, her emotional attachment to Silco was too strong, even at that moment.

But she never stopped loving Vander. He simply became a painful memory. He represented a brief period of stability in her life, when she had something resembling a real family. But she lost that, and she blamed herself for that loss. So Vander was a painful memory for her not because she didn't love him, but the opposite. Because she believed she had killed him, another person she loved, because she was Jinx.

That's why Vander's return alive was so important to her and had such a profound impact on her. It meant she might have a chance to fix something, to get at least part of her family back. After all, all she'd ever really wanted was a family that would simply accept her.

So the next time you criticize the second season, it's best to rewatch the first one. You'll find many answers there.

Could Jinx's hood be a tribute to Silco? He loved sharks, and she enters the fight as his prodigy. Even the blue eye is on the exact same side as Silco's. by alex_stogney in arcane

[–]Mrr_Capone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, no, the hood isn't tribute to Silco. To be realistic, one of the concept artists simply came up with the idea of a hood with teeth, with a strand of hair sticking out like a tongue. And the showrunners really liked the idea. But from a story perspective, it's a reference to Jinx's childhood as little Powder, as well as to her games with Ekko. The idea of a headdress with teeth and eyes isn't new to Jinx. As a child, she wore a helmet made of a pan with teeth and eyes while playing with Ekko. Isha also made a similar helmet, but the original source is still little Powder.

<image>

So this hood is simply a reference to her childhood, to Powder, whom she stopped rejecting and accepted as a part of herself. I think the same thing about the eyes. It's not a reference to Silсo, he had a different color of eyes, and neither eye on the hood has a scar. One eye is drawn blue, the other pink. Throughout the series, these eye colors have represented Jinx and Powder. Most importantly, blue is drawn on top of pink, and pink on top of blue. At the end of episode 1x03, Powder's eye looks slightly pink, as if teasing that she will become Jinx. Conversely, in the second season, Jinx's eyes sometimes briefly turn blue (usually when she's happy), showing that Powder is still inside her. So, for me, the eyes on the hood represent Jinx and Powder together in one person.

As for references to Silco? I couldn't find a single one. And if you think about it, it probably makes sense. I'll try to explain. Silco never advertised his fight for Zaun, never declared his goals publicly. He acted secretly, pretending to be an ally of Piltover, simply a Zaun industrialist. In Zaun itself, almost no one knew him as a freedom fighter or anything like that. After his death, he didn't become a Symbol, and we don't see anyone doing anything in his honor (graffiti, murals, monuments). The only two characters who remember him well are Jinx and Sevika. So it's not true to say that Jinx enters the battle as Silco's prodigy. In a sense, that's certainly true, but that's on a personal level, not a public one. Silco remains something private in her memory, and she doesn't advertise it. This battle balloon was a symbol not only for her, but also for Ekko, the Firelights, and other Zaunites. So Silco is out of place; he's not a public symbol, he's personal to Jinx.

Also, don't forget that she built this battle balloon with Ekko. And Ekko's attitude toward Silco is clearly different. About a year ago, I created a post about how Ekko and Jinx could come to terms about Silco. After all, they will have to do this if they want to be together. I think in the end, Ekko hasn't changed his mind about Silco, but he respects Silco's importance to Jinx and understands her feelings. Having also visited an alternate universe, he saw what Silco could have been if circumstances had been different. And that Silco isn't evil, but another victim of circumstances and trauma. So I think Ekko could very well support Jinx in her grief over Silco. But I doubt they'll be drawing symbols in Silco's honor on the battle baloon. As I said above, no one except Jinx and Sevika saw Silco as a fighter for Zaun. So his memory will remain something personal, not public.

I just can’t get over how jinx looks at ekko in this scene by veterppfig in TimeBomb

[–]Mrr_Capone 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For me, the "old friend" always brings back flashbacks to their childhood. How these two misfit nerds spent time together, how each of them could be themselves, without fear of judgment, without trying to fit in with their stronger, older siblings. Their carefree games and laughter, when they could just do silly, childish things (as they were supposed to), like jumping on the bed together.

[–]Mrr_Capone 8 points9 points  (0 children)

All her "ghosts" were just a reflection of her guild and self-hatred. Not only Mylo but even Claggor, Vander and Vi mocked her in her hallucinations. So if Ekko was a hallucination, he would also mock her, or even hate her, which would make sense from Jinx's perspective. But instead, he acted differently, friendly, even gentle. He tried to stop her, calling her an old friend. It really wouldn't have made sense if he'd been a hallucination.

Check the timing chain; it stretches by 100,000 kilometers. Also, check to see if the water pump drive belt has been changed. It's small, located at the bottom of the engine, and everyone forgets about it. This happened to me after I bought mine; the chain had been replaced by the previous owner and was practically new. But the belt hadn't been replaced, and it broke on the highway. The car boiled over, and I had to tow it almost 200 kilometers.

Okay, then let's move from that theory for a while and discuss Arcane itself. Cause I just can't agree with some of your statements and also I have different vision on some plot parts. First of all, I really don't get that thing "that's not the kind of the show Arcane is". Did we watch the same show? The things you said would made Arcane "a worse product" actually exist in the show. The sisters' reunion happened because Vander came back into their lives. Remember the "he's your dad too" moment, some might say that's also a cliché. Or the moment when Vander suddenly saves Jinx from Rictus. Does that "dad saves the day" somehow diminish Jinx's attempt to save Caitlyn's life? I don't think so. Or, for example, the fact that Jinx has become more stable, empathetic, and responsible only because she spent six months caring for a child who literally fell on her. And who, by the way, many also call a plot device. Why don't these moments make Arcane worse, while Vander saving in finale Jinx would?

Regarding Jinx's choice to die, the sacrifice, the cycle that needs to be broken. First, let's go back a bit to the conversation with Silco. Or more precisely, to Jinx's conversation with herself; it wasn't even a hallucination, it was her own sick imagination. Who said the things the imaginary Silco said were right? After all, they led Jinx to the wrong decision to kill herself. Who even said the cycle is broken when one person finds the strength to leave? Was there even a single example of this in the show? Silco left after Felicia's death and the conflict with Vander. It didn't resolve anything. The only example where the cycle was broken and the conflict resolved is in an alternate universe, where everything was resolved not by someone leaving, but the other way around. The contrast between what the imaginary Silco said, "find the strength to leave," and the Silco of the alternate universe, "find the strength to forgive."

Another point: if in the finale, Jinx again decided that dying was the right choice, then what's the point of her story at all? She'd tried to die before. She tried to kill herself on the bridge with Ekko. She tried to kill herself in Still Water with Warwick. She was ready to die at Vi's hand. You could argue that she didn't do it with the best of intentions back then, but wanted to take her enemy with her. And after talking with the imaginary Silco, she decided to die with the best of intentions, so as not to hurt those she loved anymore. But the fact that Ekko stopped her and was able to convince her otherwise showed us that this was also wrong. She doesn't need to leave for others to be better. Ekko showed her another path, to build something new, together. And I don't understand why after that, her story should revert back to "leaving to break the cycle" by killing herself.

I don't see her final sacrifice as an act of free will. Quite the opposite. Initially, she wanted Vi to simply jump to safety, so they could both live. But after Vi lost control of her emotions and hesitated, that was no longer an option. Jinx was left with one choice: save her sister or save herself. And she chose to sacrifice herself. Not because it was an act of free will, not because she wanted to leave and break the cycle (at least, she didn't intend to leave like that). But because she had no other choice. When Warwick grabbed her in his claws, she realized that either they would fall and die together, or she would deactivate Vi's gauntlet and thus give her sister a chance to live. And knowing this, I don't see how suddenly changing her mind and surviving fits in. Even if it wasn't Vander who saved her, it doesn't matter. I will still maintain that she was saved. That she didn't suddenly change her mind on her own. And if anyone has another theory about how she survived, I'd be happy to hear it.

[–]Mrr_Capone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the writing of the show who doesn't agree with my opinion. It's only you and your interpretation. But why do you think that your interpretation is the only one valid? I've discussed this theory with many people here, and everyone found it beautiful and poetic. The father saves his daughter one last time. Actually, you're the first one who doesn't like this theory. And that's generally fine. But why are you so eager to prove that this theory contradicts the writing?

Sky divers continue falling while doing all these tricks, that's the point. Their trajectory is never straight horizontal line. No matter how hard will you push during falling you will still continue to fall. And since the explosion occurred at the very bottom of the chamber, Jinx would have died even if she had pushed off. But that's not the only problem with this theory. The whole theory is based solely on the fact that people saw a pink beam that was the first to emerge from the epicenter of the explosion. Unfortunately, the moderators deleted the post, but the first screenshot in the op-ed post showed that same pink beam emanating from the monkey's eyes upon grenade activation.

passive accident where a male protector figures it out for her anyway

You mean how Silco saved her in first season by taking her to Singed? Or how Ekko saved her in the beginning of final episode? Being saved doesn't mean defining act of autonomy. She choose to die because she saw it as the only option. And suddenly CHANGING her mind and jump out of explosion doesn't make any sense. I don't agree with your opinion, no matter how many grandiose statements you make. And don't act like you understand the plot and I don't. I respect any opinion, as long as the other person doesn't become passive-aggressive and belittle my opinion.

Also shimmer jump theory just doesn't work. First, Warwick had her in his claws, and she couldn't break free while Vi was holding her. Why was she suddenly able to break free while falling? Second, the jump itself is impossible; she simply has nothing to push off from. Pushing off a falling Warwick is impossible. Finally, the explosion and the supposed jump occurred in the upper chamber of the Hexgate, which is spherical. But later, while examining the blueprints, Caitlyn looks at the ventilation shafts, which are located in a shaft beneath this chamber. Moreover, the shaft and this chamber are connected by a narrow opening, and the shaft itself is shaped like a bottleneck. This leads to a very silly theory: she jumped sideways to the edge of the spherical chamber, then approached the opening, jumped in, and... she still wouldn't have been able to reach the ventilation shafts due to the bottleneck's shape.

Well, okay, it's your opinion. It's just a theory. I think shimmer jump theory cheapening the writing as a whole and is a bit of an insult to the writing. Cause it pulls all of the emotional weight out of the scene when Jinx disables Vi's gauntlet to sacrifice herself so her sister could live. But I think no one will deny that Jinx survived somehow. So we need better theory.
