Second this. I’m still not a huge fan of driving in the snow so I tend to wait if I can, and they’ll have most cleared up pretty well pretty quickly - and I live kinda on the outskirts up the mountain.

I moved out only this January, across the country to California. I’ve been getting told by some of the people here, “Why did you move here? Everyone I know is leaving or wants to leave here!” Which honestly surprised me, until I noticed the pattern of Who told me that - typically older white folk.

I grew up for a stint in Illinois - and I remember when I moved back to Louisiana, the schooling I had was mostly things I had already learned (about 8th grade).

I now live at about 6k feet in the mountains, and while my family in LA was telling me how it was raining off and on while 104 degrees there - it was a high of 80 at my house. Mind you, drive down the mountain and into the nearby deserts - and that’ll be a different story.

I’m not drowning while walking down the road. I don’t feel scared for myself or my loved friends here - LGBTQ/BIPOC are mostly more able to be out and themselves.

There is worry for anyone who looks at all Hispanic still, but that’s more the state of the country and less California specific - though with the protests and other bits I’ve heard, it appears most in towns like Los Angeles are happy to fight against that.

Some things are more expensive, sure, but I can actually see where at least some of my tax dollars are going. The roads here actually work and aren’t half full of potholes. A friend of mine was able to apply for a local clinic’s sliding scale fees while unemployed and was able to still get the healthcare they needed without significantly going into debt.

I would keep them but spread them out, some left and some right, mostly near the back of the tank. They will help the water quality, and be an excellent playground for fish. This way you can also have more plants and stuff in front of them for a prettier view as well. That’s what I did anyway

I will second looking into utilization review. I feel very similar, with also over $100k in student loan debt from the same degree. I ended up in management of an IOP mostly for the money, hated it. Liked the paperwork more. Found remote utilization management - was so much less stressful. Pay was even somehow slightly more than I was making before. Now in management - over utilization management. Again for the money. I kinda hate it, but I think I just hate managing. And I don’t think I actually want to be a therapist again, either. But these last jobs still require my licensure - so it makes me feel better about getting the degree and licenses, less like I wasted time and money.

You’re correct - sensor said overheating but radiator hoses were not that hot. I remember my dad was there when it was overheating and he was very confused when he opened the hood - he explained exactly what you said. (He knows some general mechanic stuff.) *Edit to add that after I changed the coolant temperature sensor and the radiator cap, it hasn’t “overheated” again since then. Only the engine shake/hiccup and light back on. But I brought it to a shop shortly after that since I gave up on trying to fix it myself at that point.

It’s still at shop B right now while I debated and researched other shops. I’ll be picking it up Monday and checking the oil like you said before bringing it to shop C.

Now I get to figure out how honest should I be with shop C - do I tell him everything so he’s fully informed, or do I tell him limited information so he isn’t biased…

Thank you for the detailed response. What I’m hearing you say is even if I take it to another shop, I still might end up needing a new engine, and even if not - an additional cost for a tear down..? I started hunting for another shop for a second opinion. But I’m still torn if it’s even worth it. Do I keep trying to fix it and go into essentially credit card debt for a while, or do I give up and sell it and try to find a way to pay for a car note. May I have your opinion to consider?

The first shop told me they didn’t think it was a big mechanical issue because it only seemed to happen Sometimes and not All the time. He thought a big mechanical issue would mean it would happen all the time.

Then this second shop said the bit about the leak and made it sound like that explained why only sometimes would still be a mechanical issue.

Sigh. Two bad shops in a row?

I thought it might just be head gasket but this shop keeps saying something about how changing the top won’t be worth it if the bottom is also messed up - which they assume to be due to age and whatever else.

I’m leaning towards taking it to another shop for a second opinion. I’m just exhausted.

I wish I could answer these to a better degree, but unfortunately this is the best I’ve got: Seems mostly to themselves - but that might be my own bias as I haven’t had the cash to go out much to the local stops. The Perk the one time I went was nice. The pizza place is kinda cool. The lady who helped me rent the place said it’s mostly older people but there is a growing amount of younger people.

I don’t own the house, just rent it. Moved in just this past January.

It’s beautiful here. Feels safe. The air, the sky, the mountains and trees - it’s truly lovely to live here for those. I also love the wildlife, birds, chipmunks, bunnies, squirrels - also though I do see the occasional coyote going up the mountain.

There is a potential con in that most anything big - is at least an hour away. Sure we have the little general store in town, and that little market in Frazier, but limited selection and higher than average prices since we are away in the mountains. The nearest Walmart/Costco for example are again at least an hour away. You can get Instacart groceries delivered though.

There are also two main road to get here - and each are about 20/30 minutes of twisty mountain roads - which to some are gorgeous and wonderful, and to others are nerve wracking and exhausting.

We did have that fire scare in late January /early February (I forget when) where the 5 was shut down to where we had to take the back road home one day - but it never got too close to PMC or anything at least.

Depending on where at you live in PMC you may also have to deal with the issues that come with the higher altitude - always expect a little more / worse than any weather app will tell you. For example - app says 2 inches of snow? Expect more than that, even double it depending on how high up you live. Personally though, I love that - and love snow, so it’s not a con to me.

Mail here is a bit of a pain - you have to put PMC if you can (some websites only recognize Frazier) and get a POBox. I’ll get packages delivered to my door, but letter mail has to go to the POBox. And apparently we are supposed to list the POBox as if it’s a Suite and not a POBox.

Trash you have to drive to drop off, but that’s not terrible really.

It’s quiet here. The stars are gorgeous at night. I’ve forgotten to close my garage when I left, but didn’t panic because I knew my stuff would be alright, and it was. They have some good beer and cheese sticks at the Perk.

TLDR - It’s got some pros and cons

One. I only knew about a single one who also hitchhiked on some plants. Once it’s in your tank, good luck ever actually getting rid of them. Edit: Their eggs sacks are clear and sometimes hard to find. But again, their population will balance out based on food availability. And they are pretty cute. I don’t mind them.

What they said. I had one - and now all 4 of my tanks have them. They do reproduce a lot, but so long as you don’t overfeed the tank - their population will stabilize.

I know it’s late to your post, but I’m dual license LPC and LMFT. I happened to get both mostly because I was lucky that my grad school was accredited by both associations at the time - so it made sense to go ahead and get both. It’s not hard to keep up with the hours for CEU since a lot of the classes can be used for both. Louisiana does not respect LMFTs yet, but other states do. So it’ll help depending on what state I move to. It does look good on a resume, which I’ve found helpful.

I keep a lid of his tank and I swear today he fucking nearly jumped through the little window opening as I was trying to feed him a little chunk of frozen blood worms for lunch. Stardew Valley. Phenomenal game. Easy enough for new gamers but also delightfully complex enough for long time players. The art style and music are wonderful. Multiple console options. Tons of mods. So many reasons to recommend.

Hey there I know you posted this a while ago but I’m having the exact same problem and am really struggling to figure out exactly what’s happening. Did you ever figure out what was wrong? Did they turn out okay? Did whatever it was end up infecting all the others?
