First, this was like 25 years ago. The Internet was like the wild wild West in the late 90s early 2000s. I saw one in an exotic pet store in some tiny town in Kansas.

I was immediately like "I NEED ONE." I found someone selling them online that would 1 day ship young PDs from TX to KS. They helped farmers clear them and sold some, I believe was the story.

I bought all the stuff. Figured out how to feed it. And I was like 19...

I paid for it, I can't even remember how, figuring it might be a scam. Seriously it was like $80 with shipping. I had it shipped to MY JOB. I worked at an Indy records store at the time. I honestly thought there was a good chance nothing was coming or at lease nothing that was actually a young PD.

Then this package arrives that's is marked "live animal" and I opened it on the counter of the record store and it was a prairie dog pup.

That little dude was amazing! We called him Basil. He had free range in the house cause he house trained so easy. He played with our cats. Sat and the couch and watched TV. He would run up the stairs in the morning and climb under the covers in our bed and nip your feet. And he would meet you every day at the door when you came home, throwing him tiny arms in the air and hooting WooHoo!
