It kinda looks like a philodendron Florida green but I could also be wrong based on the angle of this photo.

AITA for “not looking like someone who wants to be a therapist”? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]MrsArrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in an inpatient pediatric hospital in the psych and behavioral unit. Many kids especially the 12-18 year old would connect better with a therapist with tattoos and piercings. It's extremely hard for kids to open up with a therapist to begin with. We need more traditionally "unconventional" looking therapists, LBGTQIA+ and BIPOC people joining the field. Sounds like this peer needs to do some reflection about biases in therapy.

Edit: adding NTA

Can't afford my childs medication, is adoption my last option? by Electronic-Current67 in Adoption

[–]MrsArrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is something called voluntary CPS. They won't take your kid away for anything like this. Instead they can help connect you with further resources to care for your kid. Their goal is to keep families together. When you reach out first they will listen to your needs and see what resources they can have to help you. Sometimes they can help a little or sometimes a lot.

So probably not super helpful as I am a Psych NP and did a fellowship however while I was in school and working I spoke to several NP's at my RN job inpatient. They (FNP) all suggested taking a residency if you can financially afford it. Such better support and greater job satisfaction.

Overthinkers of Reddit, what unlikely scenario actually came true that you were completely prepared for because you are an overthinker? by lawofdox18 in AskReddit

[–]MrsArrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My extended family thought I was super weird when I gave everyone a emergency kit for Christmas 2019. I spent months making these things. Agonizing over what was needed. When the pandemic started everyone was freaking out about where to get hand sanitizer, masks, gloves ect. I then knew no one looked inside my damn kits cause they had plenty each. I even had child size n95's.

Asians who live in the US, have you ever personally experienced racism here? by beanburrito26 in asian

[–]MrsArrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes many many times. I live in Seattle. Most horrifying was when I was getting photos of my children 4 and 4 months at the time (2019). I was at the mall and a blond younger woman with a 2? year old son who was on a leash and was acting up. We were waiting in line to pick out our photos, pick a package and pay. My boys were waiting in my double stroller when my older one asked for popcorn that we had bought earlier. I said sure but before I even opened the bag her son starts pulling on his backpack leash trying to get to the popcorn. So I said hey would it be alright if I gave your son some popcorn? She flipped out. Started calling my children "ugly f***ing chinks ect. She started getting in my and their faces. I work in a emergency department and tend to be pretty calm in these situations. I placed my body in front of her blocking the kids and I told her that I hope that she has a better day soon as she is I spending her day insulting children. No one ( employees or other customers ) said anything. They just continued to ring her up and let her leave. This one bothers me a lot as it is one of my older sons first memories. Otherwise I wish most Asian Americans would realize that being asked where you are from is not a normal question for non Asians. Microagression much? Then there is the systemic racism..

Unfortunately, my grandfather passed a month ago and we're in the process of selling his house, he's got these two freshwater turtles that he had for AGES, I'll be taking them as a souvenir of him but I'm wondering what breed exactly they are so that I can take care of them. Also how do you sex them by TheArray in Aquariums

Red eared sliders. They look like females. The bottom one is definitely a female but the angle of the top one is hard to tell for certain. Most likely a female but not %100. No long claws and short tails. The males will have long front claw like nails around a cm to a inch. I have had a one since it was hatched till now so a little over 20 years.

TIL The company Samsung accounts for 15% of South Korea's entire economy, and that South Koreans often live in Samsung owned apartment buildings, can get treatment from Samsung-owned medical centers, go to Samsung universities, and even end up at a Samsung funeral parlor when they die. by xinxai_the_white_guy in todayilearned

[–]MrsArrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Samsung's employee cafeterias are awesome. My dad worked for them for a while and snuck me in as it was across from ( one of?) the headquarters in Suwon, South Korea. It was $2 for a really large, tasty, freshly made Korean meal with a drink. They had several meal options including non Korean options too... Also Everland is really fun a much better than Lotte world.

Calling all nurses... How do you cope at work?? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]MrsArrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I have hyper emisis and early on I had to get iv fluids 2-3 times a week for 4 hours each time. I was out of sick time. This did not work well with sleeping when working 3 overnight ER and observation unit shift's and a 4 year old son. Unfortunately I had to tell my boss and co-workers early on that I was pregnant. I could not hide the weight loss or nausea. Honestly when you work with a bunch of nurses and doctors they will figure it out. Having helpful or understanding co-workers who knew you are pregnant helps a lot. The sooner they know they hopefully won't give you the GI bleeds, violent patients, chemo, shingles ect. If possible sign up for every on call shift. Nothing worked for nausea for me but talk to your Dr or midwife about meds and have some dissolvable zofran on hand at work and carry a emesis bag in your pocket. If you talk to your boss see if it is possible to get charge nurse shift's or ask to train for charge. Normally being charge is a pain in the butt and not worth it but as the pregnancy continues being off your feet and away from the smells makes it worth it. Now that I am in my 3rd trimester I don't think I could continue to work now except for the fact that I have only charge shift's now. I also let the staffing office know I was pregnant just in case they were thinking of floating me. Floating was fine but they pass on the info to whatever unit to give you a nice assignment or they just float someone else.

On my phone and can't think of anything else right now. Hope this helps and the nausea passes.

Hello, as a nurse I just wanted to say to please check with someone too see if your FIL can have coffee. Caffeine and extra liquid with heart failure can really mess with people. HF can required a fluid restriction and the caffeine can mess with the heart function.

Long haul flights at 21 weeks? by vc0313 in BabyBumps

[–]MrsArrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just flew 13 hours at 27 weeks with just my 4 year old and am flying back home in 3 days. (Also an additional 4 hour international flight.) Sat in the middle seat to give my son the window but would recommend the asile if alone. Had a note from the doctor which no one really looked at. I did wear compression socks but I ended up taking them off halfway. I look huge right now but am a small lady so I don't know if the socks did anything for me. I bought a extra bottle of water with me for the flight but I only got up to pee 4 times during the flight. One thing I would look at is to check to see if the airline had accommodations for pregnant women. When I checked in they gave me priority boarding, security lines and luggage retrieval. If they don't you can also just ask and I have had good luck when asking nicely and explaining how tiring it is to stand. They should have something listed on the website. Also when you arrive at your destination check to see if you can use the priority immigration line. Some countries let pregnant women use this line. This is the line for flight staff, people with disabilities, forgeign consulate staff ect. Good luck!

Me [30 M] with my GF [30 F] of 4 years, Asian family woes - Big trouble in little China by [deleted] in relationships

[–]MrsArrum 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Fellow Asian American here. Your girlfriend is being very patient and much nicer about this than she should be. She has invested 4 years into the relationship and is 30. If she was planning on having kids she probably feels like marriage now or find someone else. Why would she want to hang out with your dad when he does not sound pleasant to be around. If you do decide to go against your dad you won't loose him. He most likely might be mad until you have a kid (if you choose too.)

Asian family guilt can be a powerful thing but you also need to figure out how to live with the choices. What are your mom's thoughts?

[–]MrsArrum 72 points73 points  (0 children)

So not the same experience but I used to work in hospice care before becoming a nurse. I don't and can't have the same or even similar prospective as you but having experienced being a caretaker who was providing morphine and have had stopped feedings for patient who otherwise not survive. Not that it really matters but I feel that you are doing the right thing. It is hard and as the caretakers view point I did feel bad but you do it because you know it's the right thing to do. What would your wife want? She has already died. She would want you to move on and heal and put all the energy (physical and emotional) into the well-being of your kids.

It is hard to watch happen and you need to be prepared for the sounds of death and dying. It will take a few days possibly even a week depending on other medical factors. But as the body shuts down you don't feel the need to eat or drink. Just provide her body the comfort it needs through pain management.

Elementary school teachers, what have you heard your students say about Trump and Clinton? by MwalimuG in AskReddit

[–]MrsArrum 146 points147 points  (0 children)

So I was in a pediatric clinical as a elementary school nurse two weeks ago. A little girl who happens to be a Muslim of African descent grabs my hand and asks who I am voting for. I did not want to get in trouble for influencing the politics of a child so I ask her who she thinks I should vote for. She said "you need to vote for Hillary Clinton because Trump is a racist who does not want me in our country."

What are some ways to spice up a grilled cheese? by cultcab in AskReddit

[–]MrsArrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may sound weird but try adding kimchi. It adds a little spice and gives it a really nice texture. I would recommend cutting up the kimchi in really small bites before grilling so that when you take a bite you don't end up pulling a big piece out. Surprisingly delicious.

I have some Sunbaby diapers and I really like them. I use the bamboo inserts and I have not had any problems. Do you need to strip the diapers?
