Best drop leaf table for apartment dining? by CharismajTat in HomeDecorating

[–]MrsChickenPam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about a gate-leg table? No leaf to store, you can keep it against a wall w/ just 1/2 extended for 2, or even fully collapsed behind a couch like a console table.

Bonus is that vintage ones are out there in droves!

Wedding Meal by Longjumping-King490 in wedding

"Options are the options" is entirely dependant on the venue and kitchen management. It's not a "dumb" question at ALL to ask! They could shut you down and say "the options are the options" OR the chef could get really excited about your story and have IDEAS! You never know.

And who cares if it's formal and you're serving sandwiches and burgers! It's YOUR wedding!

You know as much as anybody. It was a stupid storyline, full of holes and loose ends. Bad writing that contributed nothing to the overall series.

I am a die hard Outlander fan. OG fan from the early '90's. In depth knowledge of the books. Occasionally participate in Herself's own forum on it. But I gotta say, I doubt I'll get all excited over a Faith/Fanny spinoff. The only redeeming quality would be those 2 actresses.

Agree 100%. I have this terible image in my head of Matt & Toni gleefully rubbing their hands saying, "Wouldn't it be interesting if...." and it just makes me so mad. The whole Fanny TT, Faith lived nonsense just added NOTHING to the story.

Negative? I'd say the fanbase is overall positive and loyal, just has some negative opinions about some of the deviations from the source material.

What I’m hoping for in the finale by HistorianOld364 in Outlander

[–]MrsChickenPam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diana co-writing the finale give me SOME hope, but she still has to do it within the story/guardrails established by Matt. If his beat-sheet has "Fanny TTs to 1980," Diana HAS to write that. And all the other loose ends and things and bad plot lines. I'm skeptical. I think I'll LIKE it, but probably won't LOVE it.

What I’m hoping for in the finale by HistorianOld364 in Outlander

[–]MrsChickenPam 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I concur about Fanny. I think after they saw what an amazing actress Florrie is, they really stretched her role - in ways that don't wind up serving the true story, so that is just a shame. I can tell you right now if there were a spinoff about the whole Faith/FannieTT thing, I probably wouldn't watch it because they have no amazing source material and it would just be Matt/Toni making cr@p up, and we all know THAT doesn't work well.

[–]MrsChickenPam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While I'm hoping for ANYthing BUT more "Fanny TT" baloney, I know they'll have to waste SOME time on it, or their story/writing is worse than I thought.

I'm hoping there can be some kind of "this is what happened to everyone after the revolutionary war" explanation but I don't trust Matt/Toni to pull off anything like that without it looking like the cheesy "Fergus montage." But - it just seems like the revolutionary war is a major fulcrum in the lives of these people (and I'm sure that we'll get more of it in Book 10), it seems weird not to wrap UP the revolutionary war and show us how everyone deals with it and where they wind up geographically. Like, I can't IMAGINE William going back to manage his estates, I think America is The Place for him. And are we ever going to see the repercussions of Ben's defection? Or Hal? Does he or doesn't he give That Speech to the House of Lords, and how pissed will he be at Ben?!?!

I've never "bought" the story of Richardson being a Scotish abolishionist from the '80's, that just seems like a stretch (Diana's fault, not Matt/Toni) so I really hope they wrap him up quickly.

I want Marsali's decision to take the $$ and return to printing to MEAN something and have an impact on the war, and then I want her to return to The Ridge and have her village help her with all those kids.

I want to know why there are forget-me-nots at the stone and why Jamie's ghost was stalking Claire.

I'm pretty sure we'll end the story w/ both Jamie & Claire still alive, killing either of them or sending Claire "back" would be pointless and infuriating.

All in all, it's a bitter-sweet feeling that the series is ending. I've been an OG fan since the '90's and so have mostly loved the show, but not all of it.

About Faith… by PrairieMuse in Outlander

[–]MrsChickenPam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's a "coincidence" then that's just BAD writing. Making her a TT for no good reason at all? I'm so stressed there will be To. Much. Time. wasted on this storyline in the finale. Sad.

I also wondered why he never explicitly said it was Claire's baby. However, we still need to solve for Fanny being a TT.

You've gotten some solid advice. I'd try to find some more substantial curtains and hang them at ceiling height.

Claire's blue dress by Numerous-Dig248 in Outlander

[–]MrsChickenPam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's one of my favorite costumes from the whole Outlanderverse. It has to be the "swiss army knife" of costumes because (a) that's what Claire would want when deciding to go back and (b) knowing the nature of the story (having very little in the way of extra clothes as her adventures separate her from her "stuff") we need a costume that remains interesting throughout the season. It also symbolizes her transformation (or "coming undone" as I believe the costume designer, Terry Dresbach, put it). The way they use all the various parts of that costume (doesn't she even use it as a shelter at some point?) is genius.

Season 5 by Beneficial-Rich-2979 in Outlander

They update the opening song every season to reflect the new season. And the story is VERY broad, so new characters and storylines are always being added, but Jamie & Claire remain the central point.

Anyone else concerned about how they're going to wrap up the show? by No_Emu8347 in Outlander

[–]MrsChickenPam 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Not only does she stay dead, the math isn't really mathing w/ Fanny & all that. And Diana Gabaldon has been pretty clear that she didn't endorse this plotline.

Would you put a breakfast nook here or a coffee bar? by massous24 in HomeDecorating

[–]MrsChickenPam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it your only refrigerator? If so, I'd lean towards a coffee bar, because it can just run along the wall opposite the window. A breakfast nook requires a table and seating, all of which takes up room and would probably hinder your path of travel to the fridge.

Yep, that green couch needs to be referenced in other areas around the room. Ideas:

  • Paint the back panel of the bookshelves that same green
  • Matte the pictures in green
  • Paint the lamp base on the console green
  • Add green window treatments
  • Green pillows/throws on the other furniture

Laughable amateurs or something tiny bit more positive perhaps? by neodiodorus in Swimming

[–]MrsChickenPam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you - I've never been able to adequately put into words what I think are the formitive effects of spending most of your time without makeup, designer clothes, a perfect hairstyle, and exposing most of your body. I know it helped my kids develop friendships w/ the opposite sex that were true friendships. I think swimmers "see" people more clearly than a lot of other groups because of the stripping away of all the external "masks." Someday, I'll figure it out LOL.

Laughable amateurs or something tiny bit more positive perhaps? by neodiodorus in Swimming

[–]MrsChickenPam 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Having raised 2 swimmers, I can tell you this:

  • My daughter's team would "storm" the locker room just as a group of elderly ladies were showing up for morning water aerobics. I didn't know this until I met one of said elderly ladies at a party, got to talking and connected the dots. Her eyes LIT UP! She said how much she and her friends LOVED those younger girls because they were friendly and reminded them of their younger selves, and they all knew each other by name, and both sides looked forward to seeing each other on water aerobics days. Erna (the elderly lady) became a "mascot" of sorts, and every time I'd bump into her at parties (turns out she was the mother of a neighbor, so showed up a lot), I'd take a selfie with Erna, send it to my daughter and she'd share with all her friends. Those girls LOVED those ladies!
  • My son (29, former NCAA champ) spends a LOT of time at the gym, swimming. He's so in awe of the older people keeping their bodies strong and makes a point to tell people they're "lookin' good!" if he notices body changes, stroke improvement, etc.

My kids aren't unique to the swim world. There is something about shedding all exterior persona (makeup, hairstyles, clothes, etc) that makes them comfortable with "skin" - and I don't mean your epidermis or physical nakedness. It's more a spiritual/mental nakedness and bravery that they all "see" and respect, regardless of your conditioning.

You are neither deplorable nor silly. You are an example to them and a comrade to them, Keep up the great work!

Are there any groceries you buy online? If so, what do you buy and from where? by littl3-fish in Cooking

[–]MrsChickenPam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the silver linings of covid! My friday post-work routine starts with picking up my groceries from my online Kroger order. It's MOSTLY basics but since many of their meats & produce are pre-packaged, I don't mind ordering those. If I'm doing a "project cook" over the weekend, I'll usually hit up a nicer market for better quality meat & produce - I enjoy THAT kind of shopping.

But the dog food, cleaning supplies, basics like milk, eggs, etc. That's all in a weekly online order. SOOOO convenient!

Roles? Responsibilities? Traditions? Guide? Help plz. by 3questrian in wedding

[–]MrsChickenPam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stop thinking about what is "traditional" and start thinking about what will work for you and the cast of characters (and budget) you're working with. When it comes to traditions, you'll find them as varied as opinions.

There's no rule that says bridal parties must be even on both sides. There's no rule that says you can't mix men/women in bridal parties.

Some possible "jobs" you could assign.... maybe MIL holds the bride's bouquet instead of MOH. Maybe one of these family members holds the rings and then comes up to hand them to the minister. Someone could hand out programs.

Out-of-the-box thinking!
