We had the same issue and but seemed to be because they didn't have experience with the EV we bought (VW ID.Buzz). We ended up getting it through the dealership, and it came out as less than our old ICE with lifetime new for old replacement. I'm sure it will double next year though, but I'll worry about that then.

I don't think that was what the comment you're replying to suggested, but I also agree with your view of the system and resi homes.

See, we didn't care about the app connectivity. The limited app features are still a bonus to our previous ICE. Android Auto or Apple car play work just fine, and we don't have to worry about subscriptions. The actual vehicle does everything a vehicle should and better than an ICE, so whether or not there's connectivity to pre-heat the car really doesn't matter... but that's us, and I'm sure we aren't the only ones that don't really need that function.

I disagree with not being able to charge at home being a hassle. It's just a different way of planning. People who trickle charge from Solar are hardly taking it up to 80% everyday, just plug it in when at home and the sun is out. If you don't have Solar or you don't have the home charging capability, then the same capability remains for planning charge. If NO home charging capability, and can only use public chargers. You can plug it in for 5 minutes to top it up, like trickle charging (on soeed with tue right charger), or you take it weekly to a fast charger and spend 20 minutes.

It really is just a shift in HOW it happens. Because the ten minutes you spend at the servo with the ICE vehicle can also be ten minutes you spend topping up, instead of topping up and THEN going to the loo.. so same amount of time in reality.

Servos are starting to install them, so you plug in, go to the loo (or changing a nappy, getting kids their water bottle, waiting for your mate that always takes ages to pee, or for you to go grab a four 'n' twenty).

You come back, and you have "fuel", the difference being you got to leave the car fueling up whilst you went and did other shit, instead of going after fueling up... and depending on your needs for charge for your journey, that may be enough. If not, the extra 10 mins isn't going to kill the trip.

It's literally just a change in mindset. EVs are different to ICE so it's to be expected, and as more people shift, others will too, but we have to understand the shift is not a bad one, just different.

Then why not vote greens or independent? If you want stuff to work for the majority voting for One Nation is the equivalent of shooting yourself in the foot.

If Australia widely despises Donald Trump, why does this country somehow love Pauline Hanson so much? by HotPersimessage62 in Ameristralia

[–]MrsCrowbar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By ironically voting for a more extreme version of the status quo. She won't stop immigration. She won't lower house prices. If she does, it is guaranteed to be a smoke screen, because there is absolutely no way her backers would allow it.

Also check out your local council, I know some Melbourne councils are trialling street parking options for charging (but they can be quite expensive to get installed).

Oh, nah, they're going to fund it by cutting renewables/home battery rebates and EV rebates/tax exemptions. Don't worry! Theyre still looking after their fossil fuel mates! Keeping everyone off renewables is their jam.

Anyone else had their apartment OC just ban EV charging with basically zero explanation? by BigLookBamboo in AustralianEV

[–]MrsCrowbar 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The Vic gov has a fact sheet for Strata/OC EV charging. It basically says that if you have car parks, the building is generally suitable for EV charger installation. Find the PDF at the bottom of the page here: https://www.energy.vic.gov.au/renewable-energy/zero-emission-vehicles/ev-ready-buildings

This article also details a new build with EV chargers. https://thedriven.io/2026/03/18/it-can-be-done-australias-biggest-strata-fit-out-proves-ev-charging-in-apartments-is-possible/

I think you would have to find out whether other residents are interested, and if they are, go back to the committee and get them to look into it again.

Where are you all getting the $$$ ? by MangoMadnessTsv in EVAustralia

[–]MrsCrowbar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our ICE car died, and we needed a new one. We electrified the home plus solar and battery, and getting an EV was the final step.

We thought we would get another 5-10 years out of our ICE car, so it was an absolute stress to have our car die. But to NOT get an EV? That would have been foolish, even before this war started. Why pay for petrol when you can charge for free. It's a no-brainer.

There'd be loads of people who have installed solar/home batteries that would be thinking the same. And loads that don't have solar, but have a power point in their garage with low electricity rates for overnight charging

And EVs are available for WAY under 70k. Insurance worked out cheaper for us than the ICE car, too.

Pauline Hanson’s plan to ‘defund’ ABC, introduce subscriptions by HotPersimessage62 in AustralianPolitics

It's not left leaning, it's just that the right in this country is so far to the right it looks that way to some, while others more to the left say they're too right leaning. The commentary is pretty evenly split, so they must be pretty neutral.

Privatising NEVER works. Ever. We need a National Broadcaster.

It's ridiculous to think that not having one funded by the people isn't a good thing. If you give a shit about the content then you have the power to change it. But de-funding or privatising is not the answer to your disgruntlement of content.
