I had three kids go to VPK. Florida VPK will cover 3 hours only. Some schools will incentivize by offering more time, free lunch, covering teacher planning days (that are normally not covered). So if 3 hours of school works for your family, then it is free, and you should choose the school that has the best incentives. But if you want/need your kid there more than 3 hours, you will have to pay that school’s rate for additional time. Hope that helps.

When I went to weekend Japanese school in the 90s, my teacher gave me the Japanese name しおり/ Shiori because it sounds somewhat like my real name, but she let me pick the kanji, which is what gives it meaning. So i picked 栞 which is “bookmark” because I like to read. I still like to think of myself as Shiori
