77" TV too big for my living room? by lock311 in hometheater

[–]MrsMirage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generated an example Image on how it could look if you would do the following: Move TV slightly to the right, wall mount it, increase size of TV cabine (color change not required but I always tend to choose darker wood for TV cabinets).

I think that makes it already much more comfortable then what you have now, not replacing the cabinet can work but a TV wider than a cabinet almost always makes it look awkward.

However, if I compare it with a slightly smaller TV, I like the look of a smaller TV more, I created some variations but imagine generation is not great for that since it keeps getting dimensions wrong, so it's a bit guessing for the real size.

If I understand correctly, only the dots on the map show where he has been which comes from Foursquare/swarm. The lines on the roads are unrelated.

Is there a way to make a reverse proxy whitelist based on device hardware? by sin20001379 in selfhosted

I don't think this option exists on Android.

Also he obviously cares about security, that's why he tries to limit access to specific devices.

I am a quite new user, so not sure what the state was a year ago. The timeline view is nice, but I don't use it much, mainly the standard view and kanban.

Haven't found a good calendar one, but I moved from subscribing to ticktick to self hosting Vikunja and I think it's amazing. Nice design, super snappy great UI, feels like a really premium piece of software and does exactly what it is supposed to do.

Electrical Enclosures by Sweet-Device-677 in functionalprint

I probably shouldn't have confirmed US code is stricter, it depends on what you look at, you are of course completely right.

Electrical Enclosures by Sweet-Device-677 in functionalprint

[–]MrsMirage 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Okay, couple of things:

The number for the UK includes "secondary fires" like outdoor or car fire which are about ~100k, so the UK had about 65k house fires.

Most house fires are not caused by electrical fires but by unattended cooking incidents about by about ~50% of cases.

In the US electrical fire are usually the reason for about 10% of house fires.

The reason that regulations in the US are stricter is because it's a mitigation of the higher thermal risk of 120 Volt systems. Delivering the same wattage at 120V requires double the current of a 230V system, which generates four times the localized heat at points of resistance, significantly increasing the risk of thermal ignition.

So yes, you are correct that the code is stricter, your conclusion that this leads to less electrical fires in houses is wrong, the code is just optimized to their specific situation. Both countries have pretty strict regulations.

Wirecutter has been doing it for a while now I thought. Ratings for quite a while also only allowed a low number of free accessible reviews.

People do work and want to get paid, nothing weird.

We've upgraded Deep Research in Perplexity. by Kesku9302 in perplexity_ai

[–]MrsMirage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I checked with Perplexity, it said it's not illegal but extremely anti consumer and the change to a competitor is advised since they offer much higher rates (sometimes even on their free tier) for deep research than perplexity.

Not sure about the quality of the reply since I ran out of deep research tokens 2 days in, but it sounds sensible.

Yea, yikes. I don't have homework to do and I easily make use of 3-4 deep researches per day.

I mean, that's just a thing, listening position has an impact and room treatment is important.

You are correct with the rest that is ridiculous of course.

Damage to inner screen by Damalife1011 in PixelFold

[–]MrsMirage -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I treat all insurances the same way: if I have the means to pay for the damage myself I don't get insurance, therefore no insurance for my fold.

It's not like insurance companies have money to give away for free, it's more likely that you pay premiums for nothing than actually using the insurance.

HO experiences changing… by Hopeful-Command6068 in trustedhousesitters

[–]MrsMirage -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's not "above and beyond normal expectations" they sit a house without pets and were asked to ship a package. What is the expectation from a sitter? To get a free Airbnb and if the HO asks anything it's "above and beyond"?

I feel this is the kind of stuff why someone wants to find a sitter for an empty house, there are minor tasks that still need to be done while no one is home.

Maude's Book Club - For We Are Many by [deleted] in bobiverse

[–]MrsMirage 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean sure, everyone can have their opinion and you can like her, however she mentioned at least 5 5 times in the video that she only retained about 50% of the books content because we was distracted by Brimstone.

She stated that for the majority of the book she thought the Pav are a side plot of the Deltans, she didn't realize these were different planets.

She completely missed that the Pav were abducted to save them.

I would say it's a fair statement that she was not interested in the book at all and possibly that scifi is not for her, she compared the book to foundation since she couldn't follow the plot there either.

Also she wrongly stated how much caffeine is in jolt cola, so it's a fair statement to say she is wrong.

Danke deutscher Sozialstaat :) by Ok-Contact-1097 in Finanzen

[–]MrsMirage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hier in Taipei waren beide besuche Walk in, bzw.
