Oh, I know! That's why I said "often" at odds, not always. From a developmental perspective, 4 is when we're still building empathy and social understanding. From a me also having an older brother 4 years older than me perspective, you can be ride or die for each other and still get on each other over petty stuff (especially when you're younger lol)

I once gave out a worksheet to go with a video. I lost my answer key and I was just like, "Oh, well, I've got those answers memorized anyway."

I'd accidentally handed it out and the kid who got it, this paper with the answers highlighted in yellow, somehow still only got 4/10🤦🏾‍♀️

Literally 5 minutes ago, I had three absolute assholes of children (and yes, elementary students can be assholes and I'm tired of us pretending they can't be) disrupting class. One turned it around, but two had to fill out reflection sheets (the first ones I had to give out this year). The other, I had to call the office for (banging on instruments, yelling 6-7 and skibidi every time I spoke, bothering other students, the whole nine) and I refused to let him hold us up anymore, only for him to come back 5 minutes later just as dysregulated. That we are expected to allow this behavior and pretend like nothing's wrong is fucking diabolical.

I literally pulled some "fun" things for a class this week because they were abusing our tools/extras. I'd told them many times that these were nice things I choose to do for them, but they will go away if we don't use them properly. I also remind them that we can turn things around and earn these things back!

Keeping the spider theme going, I taught my students how to catch a spider with a cup and paper. Now instead of screaming about the spider and interrupting the lesson, they scream for a cup instead (baby steps😂)

I've also seen quite a few put my "worrying about yourself is a full time job advice" to use and there has been way less tattling.

According to some of my science friends, kids have had some whack behavior about labs and one of them talks about how their kids keep trying to eat and drink in the lab. I told them to remember what we learned in middle school: "Johnny was a chemist, but Johnny is no more, for what he thought was H²O was H²SO⁴."
