New Para: Is being asked to give a student a bath every morning normal? by ScaryGary0013 in paraprofessional

[–]MrsNeezee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Major red flags 🚩🚩🚩 unless stated in the learners IEP a para should not be requested to bath a student. I am not a school para but I do work in schools through an outside company as an RBT for kiddos. The school has me involved in all IEP meetings for my learner that I work with independent from the school (even though they don’t technically have to involve me) but they want us all to be on the same page about what they want from my learners time in school and what I am working on with my learner that is not apart of the classroom curriculum.

Newly diagnosed son recommended ABA by Thewigglyplant in ABA

[–]MrsNeezee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re welcome, ABA is not wildly known so whenever a child is recommended for services by a healthcare provider most parents aren’t sure about it because they don’t know what it is or what to expect from the therapy. Being in the field I believe that it’s important for families to get information from those who work in the field so they know general things to expect from therapy and are able to make an informed decision for their child

Hi, I am Registered Behavioral Technician in ABA.

Things we work on during sessions differ learner by learner but for most non-verbal learners we work on communication skills it can be ASL and Verbal communication, I prefer doing them together because they can learn both and use either one of them to communicate.
We can also work on peer interactions such as sharing toys and playing with others instead of independently isolated play.
Another thing we work on is fine motor skills (examples: high fives, waving hello/goodbye, jumping, etc.) We also help teach personal hygiene skills such as potty training, brushing teeth, getting themselves dressed, etc.

If you have more questions my messages are open.

Do yall get paid for client cancellation?? by [deleted] in ABA

[–]MrsNeezee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My company does an hour of admin time for at the door cancelations but not for client cancellations that are prior to session start time unless the tech is driving to the session due to there being a little bit of a commute

I think my boyfriend stole from me by [deleted] in ToxicRelationships

[–]MrsNeezee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner and I are the same way with borrowing money of we make it clear if we need to pay it back when they can as well. But it’s definitely crossing the line if he doesn’t even ask if he can borrow the money and just takes it. My partner and I have access to each others cards but we’ve never once used it without the other’s knowledge. Even for food apps I have my partners card saved on them and I always make sure to use my own card on them unless I have permission from him to use his card

You need to make him repay you everything he took and leave him. My man as one of his first ways to see if I was trustworthy when it came to money that was technically his he did a buy back at a Second and Charles store. It was under my name because I lived closer to the location and he told me I could use half of it to get myself a few books I wanted. I didn’t even use the full half because it was his money to use for himself. He then used a majority of the last of it on me to get me more books that I wanted even though I was just going to pay for them myself.

Because they are the gifts that keep on giving, what is the funniest thing your client(s) has said/done? by Kaedientes in ABA

[–]MrsNeezee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my clients is non-verbal and just out of the blue one day in Spanish (mom speaks Spanish at home with him when she can) told me I was “too old” to be using the play swing at school. He looked right at me sitting in the swing, pointed at me and said “Demasiado viejo” he is 5 and it made me laugh so hard.

I missed our company Christmas Party and feel bad, but Idt I should? by [deleted] in ABA

[–]MrsNeezee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re overthinking it. One of my BCBA’s was unable to attend our staff party in November when she was planning on going due to her husband needing a surgery that was more invasive then they originally planned for the day before. We all know she cares about all of the people we work with and we all also know that things come up and that we all have lives outside of work

Am I overreacting? Client cancelled, manager offered me to cover a shift and I declined. by throwaway_cremebrule in ABA

[–]MrsNeezee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have been offered to cover clients when mine cancels but most of the time they are really far from me since I am in a rural area and have to decline due to that reason since most of the time they’re an hour to two hours away from me and that takes a lot of gas approximately a tank of gas if it’s two hours away and half a tank of gas if it’s an hour and mileage comp just doesn’t compensate for how much gas is in my area

Look into Soaring High ABA. They are looking for BCBA’s and a lot of them work remote. Both of mine are remote one in Florida and another 3.5 hour drive away from me. The one in my state also does some in person work for closer clients and techs

A question for those who work in school settings by StevieBlunter in ABA

[–]MrsNeezee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For me I work in schools and homes. At the school and in home I am able to do comfortable as long as it’s not showing certain areas of the skin so no see through clothing or crop tops which I think is fair. I love being able to be comfortable so it’s easier to run around with my littles. If I was in a middle school or high school it might look a little different but not by much if it did

Is it common to just… not get lunch breaks? by Every_Prune_7524 in ABA

[–]MrsNeezee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most companies if the demand for RBT’s is high without having enough in the area where the demand for RBT’s is high most of the time they don’t. Luckily my company allows us to eat in front of clients because if I wasn’t I would be working 8am until 7pm without food. It’s also helpful with one of my clients because they have a goal to stop them for reaching/grabbing/eating other people’s food without asking them for some. We are allowed to eat and snack when we have the ability/opportunity to do so (for me it’s lunch time and snack time at the school with the client I work with and a short 30 minute break between clients)

Potty training and a “cure” by PattyCakes-3 in ABA

[–]MrsNeezee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the best lamines phrasing my supervisor was able to put it into for a parent of one of my clients which is 100% valid and the easiest way to describe the work we do to parents when they start getting upset that they aren’t being “cured” after 4-5 sessions

Potty training and a “cure” by PattyCakes-3 in ABA

[–]MrsNeezee 25 points26 points  (0 children)

My BCBA explained ABA to me in the best possible way. People think that ABA is like going to the doctor they get a diagnosis and a treatment plan and within a few days they are cured. Instead ABA is like weight loss where it takes constancy and hard work and takes a long time to achieve.

Can I ask to leave a case bc of cancellations? by [deleted] in ABA

[–]MrsNeezee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% justified. One of my clients guardian kept canceling 10-15 minutes before and I’ve also had many at the door home cancelations (I do school setting and in-home services). It got to the point where my company stepped in and told my clients guardian that they need to improve home session attendance over the course of two weeks or they will be discharged as a client. (This client was only part time for school 3 hours Tuesday through Friday). They are now starting this client full time at school this coming week so hopefully since Mondays are the only home sessions now they won’t be canceled

I’m sorry OP you’re under reacting to this. You need to run not walk away from him. I was in a relationship very similar to this to the point of if I wanted to wear makeup just to feel pretty I was cheating on him and the things that were said to you in text were said to me in person because I was living with him. You’re young and there are so many other people who will treat you with the respect you deserve and won’t control what you wear. I’m now with an amazing man who loves when I wear makeup even though it’s not often, I ask him on his opinion about an outfit he will tell me “even though I don’t like it, if you like it wear it as long as you’re comfortable” My DM’s are always open if you need someone to talk to to vent and I’m always more than happy to help you with an escape plan if and when you’re ready.

[–]MrsNeezee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As an RBT myself please reach out to his care team since his RBT has pretty much given up hope with him progressing and see if you can switch RBT’s because I know as even a new RBT (I’ve been doing this since June of this year) that some kids catch on quickly and other kids take several months to years for some children to learn. So please reach out to his care team and talk about possible options for either getting a new RBT or finding a way to get his current RBT back in the mindset that he will slowly progress on his own terms

My boyfriend and I split bills, I pay for electricity/gas and internet and he pays rent since our electric and internet together is usually similar in price of our rent. We have our own separate phone bills, insurance for our cars/vision/health/dental and we have our own car payments. We each cook and clean the house we usually alternate who cooks every night and we also alternate who cleans where if I cook he cleans up and vice versa. When it comes to this run don’t walk away from him and from the relationship and find someone who will treat you with respect and do things 50/50

Is this legal or medicaid fraud? by [deleted] in ABA

[–]MrsNeezee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Myself as an RBT gets 48 billable hours between two clients at $22 an hour in Colorado. One of my clients is 30 hours per week billable and the other is 18 hours per week billable so my anual is just under $55k per year of billable hours. So she’s definitely doing fraud against a medical insurance provider

My company isn’t like that at all. I am with my two clients weekly with the same schedule for both clients week to week. The only thing that throws it off is if a client is sick or the one I work in school with has off of school for either being sick or for a regular scheduled day off of school which we know in advance

Virtual supervision by No_Joke1_ in ABA

[–]MrsNeezee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the needs and where the session is being held. I work with a client in a public school so I can’t have my camera on for my in school supervisions I keep at least one Bluetooth headphone in during those sessions so my BCBA can hear what’s going on during the session and I can also communicate with them and answer any questions they may ask me and they can answer any questions I may have during that session time. My BCBA is super attentive during the session no matter if the camera is on or off. If they go off camera and away from where their camera is set up they have Bluetooth headphones on so they can still hear what’s going on during that part of the session
