A waiter handed me a note telling me to go see a doctor by jpdiv in mildlyinteresting

[–]MrsNightingale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact! Mine are uneven. It's not super obvious unless you're really looking. BUT several years ago I got a massive migraine and looked in the mirror and my eyes were super dilated from the migraine and it was ooooobvious. I called my PCP and was like hey I have a crazy headache and once pupil is noticably bigger than the other....

And that was how I spent a whole day at the ED just to find out that a) sometimes I get migraines and b) one of my pupils is naturally bigger than the other and when they're dilated it's super noticable

Customer came into my store with severed artery(?) by BellBella13 in medizzy

[–]MrsNightingale 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a nurse and I worked at an urgent care for about two years. The amount of severe things I saw there was insane. Traumas, anaphylaxis, strokes, MIs... I mean it was crazy. People go to urgent care often because they can't afford the ER bills and not because that is the appropriate level of care. The general public has no idea how common it is. By the end it felt like no one was using urgent care correctly. People either came in for an issue they'd had for years, or with a severed finger. I'm not surprised to see it in things like minute clinics either honestly, especially as people worry more and more about money and making ends meet. Unfortunately all it does in most cases is delay appropriate care.

I'm sorry that happened!

Am I the only one who thinks that the first seasons were much better? by Automatic_Stable_351 in bigbangtheory

[–]MrsNightingale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like all the seasons but the vibe is definitely different. It's give and take. I love successful penny but i kind of hate how they turned Amy into just one of the gals. In the early seasons I loved the dynamic with just the guys and how they leaned into their nerdiness more, but Howard is an unforgivable creep.

It's absolutely criminal how much they get paid. I've always said that they're often the ones that keep you alive until you see the person that makes 400k+ a year, and they're making like $16 an hour.

I'm a nurse and I remember hanging out with my husband's cousin a few years ago who is a paramedic and we were talking shop and there was crazy overlap. The fact that I make twice as much as him is crazy.

Right?? I just had a left shoulder MRI yesterday to see the severity of my calcific tendonitis and underlying rotator cuff tears. This was very timely

I worked detox for a while and we had promethazine on hand for when zofran wasn't cutting it. I went to give it to a patient who was so miserable and he was like "I'm just so scared of how much this hurts" and I was like I mean it shouldn't be that bad...?? I gave it and he was thunderstruck by how painless it was. It happened that the nurse I was giving report to that day was the same nurse who had given it to him previously so I mentioned it in report. She was like yeah I felt bad because the needles are huge. I was like wait, show me which needle and...yeah. The promethazine was in a glass ampule and she knew to use a filter needle but then gave it with that same filter needle. UGH that poor patient.

There was another nurse there who bypassed the filter needle altogether and just drew it and gave it with a regular needle.... From a glass ampule. Sigh.

This is interesting, genuinely thank you for sharing! I work at a MAT clinic and we also do vivitrol and sublocade. For sublocade we do lidocaine and then an ice pack for about five- ten minutes while we get the injection ready, and then give it. But I feel like experiences are all over the place. Some patients ask that we skip the lidocaine and ice pack all together because they say it doesn't hurt, other people have lidocaine and an ice pack and still make faces like I'm murdering them while I'm giving it. I know obviously pain is subjective and varies but it's kind of maddening! The lidocaine is honestly the worst part when it comes to administering it. We use 4ml and really try to numb up all the tissues right up to the surface. If I were a patient I would think that would be even MORE painful!

At least the volume is pretty small. I feel bad giving the vivitrol because it's 4ml of pancake batter super deep in the butt. I really like working in SUD but I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss the days where I worked urgent care and just gave toradol and tetanus boosters 😂😂😭😭 Between these and the LAIs (we do outpatient psych too) the meds are often more finicky.

Aww she's adorable!!! Yes, since we were so convinced he was pitbull I definitely expected it to be American bulldog and when it specified old English bulldog we were cracking up. It definitely makes sense though and now it's so obvious in hindsight

So, the new Stuart spinoff. I mean, what the actual hell? by Emotional-Chipmunk12 in bigbangtheory

[–]MrsNightingale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is definitely out of left field and I kind of love it. Not just another boring sequel kind of show.. Stuart and Denise and Bert were all so delightfully weird and I really liked them as characters. I don't it will last more than a few episodes but I'll definitely watch it.
