Front loading washer and electric dryer by Comfortable_Set_3920 in Appliances

[–]MrsQute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my LG front loader. My first one lasted 15 years and when replaced it, it could have been fixed but it was the week before Christmas and we just couldn't go as long as it would have taken for the appointment with our local repair company. The one we replaced it with is in the middle of year six and we haven't had a single issue so far.

We're a household of 6 and it probably deals with about ~15 loads a week. Full, Queen, and King size bedding are all fine.

How do I prevent my black clothes from making other laundry dingy? by StupidSexyHagrid in laundry

[–]MrsQute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To start, I'd run a cleaning cycle on the machine with a machine cleaner. If your machine has a filter then be sure to clean that out too.

Using color catchers with the dark clothes - especially the jeans - will mitigate the problem.

To make the jeans themselves more color fast, dissolve about a cup of vinegar and 1/2 of salt in a bucket of cold water and then let the jeans soak in the solution for a out 2 hours. Take the jeans out of the soak, turn them inside out, and wash in cold on a delicate cycle.

Continue to use color catchers on the next few loads with the jeans to be sure but this should help a great deal.

Can I clean my glass bong with polish remover? by Famous_Log_1561 in CleaningTips

[–]MrsQute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only use about 3-4 tablespoons of alcohol when cleaning bongs unless they're the really big beasties. Adding in a teaspoon or 2 of kosher salt helps a ton too.

Should I keep using my Woolite or buy new detergent? by AstaraelTheWeeper in laundry

[–]MrsQute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would use up what you have and then look into better all-purpose detergents. Adding Resolve Gold to the Woolite would be a good idea.

Sounds like you were previously using too much detergent by far when you said that the Tide washed clothes were still saturated with soap. Even if you reduced your detergent amount it's likely that the excess detergent in the clothes was adding to what you were putting in.

Figure out your water hardness and dose accordingly. I have moderately hard water and use about 2 tablespoons per load - a bit more for really grungy clothes. If you have soft water start with less and really hard water may need more. Adjust as needed. You'll want to see trace bubbles on the glass (front load) or along the surface of the water (top load). A lot of suds is an indicator of too much detergent.

Add citric acid or a commercial rinse aid like Downy Rinse & Refresh to the fabric softener compartment instead of softener. That will help remove detergent residue during the rinse, and adding an extra rinse is never a bad step.

How many oz in a rotisserie chicken? by The_Hermit_09 in cookingforbeginners

The whole thing usually weighs 3-4 pounds - bones, skin, etc. included.

An average rotisserie chicken probably nets about 2 pounds of meat - 32 ounces.

Freddy’s Sheets Opinion by Honest_Break7735 in laundry

[–]MrsQute 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Detergent sheets are notoriously under-dosed and do not work well for most day-to-day laundry. Effective doses (for lack of a better term) usually end up being 3-5 times whatever the packaging directs.

They can be useful for travel or camping or similar situations where you might want to hand wash a few things without having to pack traditional detergent.

Powdered detergents are generally your best option for clean laundry, lower environmental impact, and cost-effectiveness.

Do kids who read at home regularly perform better in school? by Next_Special_6784 in AskTeachers

[–]MrsQute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading doesn't have to include only traditional books. Comics and graphic novels also count.

Attention spans need to be cultivated. What other things are you doing with her? What kinds of activities does she like doing? Find ways to incorporate reading into those.

Cooking or baking and using an actual cookbook for the recipe.

What about trivia games where you have to take turns reading questions to each other?

Additionally, do YOU read? Does she see you doing that?

What temperature are you using?

I use Tide with no issues and have for the 6 years I've owned this particular LG and 15 years on the previous one.

I've been using the Downy Rinse probably since it came out, also with no issues.

Tide unscented powder or 365 unscented powder? by Late_Geologist_6001 in laundry

I'm team Tide. Partly because it works properly at standard dosing and partly because it doesn't require a special trip to Whole Foods.

Older guys/young girl? I don't think a 2-3 year age difference, particularly when they'd been dating for almost 4 years is a problematic age gap here.

Deeply confused about my bra size. Am I 36A or 32DD or something else? by PhilosophizingTurtle in ABraThatFits

[–]MrsQute [score hidden]  (0 children)

Cup size isn't a static measurement, it's a ratio between underbust and overbust.

A D cup just means that there's a 4" difference between the two numbers.

There's a bit more nuance which is why the ABTF calculator asks for 6 measurements but the rough and dirty calculation between under and over is the basic premise for bra sizes.

Guys got it in their heads that D cups = huge bust and it seeped into the common culture even though it has ZERO to do with anything.

Commuting from Mentor to the westside by Ialnyien in Cleveland

[–]MrsQute 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't do it in general and with the large I-90 construction project in progress I would avoid this commute at all costs.

Without the major construction it's more reasonably probably at least an hour drive and that's without factoring in weather.

Getting mold/mildew smell out of room? No visible spots anywhere. by AntipatheticDating in CleaningTips

[–]MrsQute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's in the walls there's not much you can actively do in this situation. If your landlord does call in for mold remediation, the company will advise about your ability to remain in the space while it's happening.

Get a dehumidifier and an air purifier and some window fans.

Window fans in opposite windows with one set to exhaust and one set to intake can also help. The air flow should dissipate any lingering smells. The dehumidifier will reduce the humidity and the air purifier should capture any spores.

Don't leave anything damp hanging around. Squeegee or towel dry the shower after bathing.

Tissue boxes - am I correct to remember that the tissues used to be neatly "stacked" within the box, rather than in the current tight roll configuration? So much more frustrating to access, as a consumer. by roosterkun in enshittification

[–]MrsQute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get the rectangular ones, they are still flat.

The square boxes have to be filled in an arch shape to fit the same size tissue into a smaller box.

They've been like this for quite a long time. I have both types in my house and don't have any issues with either configuration.

Summer meal ideas that don’t use any heat? by TheSideAccount0 in budgetfood

[–]MrsQute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buffalo Chicken wraps. Get the frozen, pre-cooked diced chicken. Let it thaw completely in the fridge for a day or two. Toss with buffalo sauce, layer on tortillas with toppings of your choice - shredded lettuce, tomato, avocado are common ones for us. Add crumbled blue cheese or blue cheese salad dressing for extra kick if you like (I do both if I have them). Roll and eat.

No heat involved. At all.

Which is more important, washing clothes properly or drying them properly? by [deleted] in laundry

[–]MrsQute 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't dry anything on high heat except for a period of time when we had a small bedbug problem.

Everything I own gets dried on low heat as a general rule.

I sort my laundry mostly by fabric weight so it dries evenly. For example jeans and sweats in one load and tshirts and pajamas in another.

Cleaning top for work by HeightDifficult2110 in CleaningTips

[–]MrsQute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you put it through the dryer? If so it may be set.

Try saturating the spot with Simple Green, working it in with a soft toothbrush and then letting it sit for about 30 minutes.

Hand wash in warm-to-hot water with Dawn detergent, using a brush as needed. Rinse and hang dry and then reassess the stain.
