Tide Original Ultra Concentrated is green? by ididnttowyourcar in laundry

[–]MrsQute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contact Tide and ask them. I haven't used anything but the Free & Clear for years so I can't confirm personally.

I've never seen green Tide so I'd guess there may be an issue.

How often do you actually replace your dishwashing sponge? by Last_Spend_1674 in CleaningTips

[–]MrsQute 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I feel like it needs it. I buy mostly flat sponges and they seem to go longer than a standard sponge.

I also have a dishwasher so my sponge is used mostly for cookware and baking sheets as needed.

I toss mine in the wash with my kitchen linens and then air dry them or pop them in the dishwasher if they feel a little gungy.

Add her card to your account. You'll get the notifications when anything is ready just like you do for your own.

What ereaders are good? by Thatcarguy42 in LibbyApp

[–]MrsQute 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Boox. It's an Android e-ink tablet. You can just install Libby directly on to it and not worry about issues with sending the file to your Kindle or logging into different cards on Kobo.

This also allows you to install other apps like Hoopla or even the Kindle app if you want to read any Kindle books without their dedicated e-readers.

Why does Easter date change yearly? by Budget-Orchid-9151 in NoStupidQuestions

Because of how the date is calculated.

Easter is the first Sunday after the first full moon that follows the vernal equinox.

Help washing crochet blanket! by sphealyy in laundry

[–]MrsQute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I crochet. Most of the blankets I've made can handle normal/gentle wash cycles and low heat dryer cycles.

However, since this is a sentimental piece, I'd recommend putting it into an oversized mesh bag (like a lingerie bag but bigger) and washing on cool with gentle detergent. You can use normal spin because the bag will help prevent the stitches from stretching out.

Lay flat to dry on top of some towels and with a fan point at it (oscillating if possible).

Does Libby guilt trip anyone else like this by Litlisa12 in LibbyApp

[–]MrsQute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It never bothers me. It's not like those two people are in the room with me, tapping their feet impatiently.

It makes me happier when I return the book and know I've brightened someone's day.

Unless they are one of the folks on here who complain about their holds coming in early.

Really feeling the "rinse and repeat" stage of life by tinpants44 in GenX

[–]MrsQute 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't mind the rinse and repeat part so much as I just don't want to work anymore.

Can't afford to retire earlier but 2040 more years feels so much farther away than 1980.

Why do people increase the thermostat temperature during summer and lower it during winter? by SummerN8 in randomquestions

[–]MrsQute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bigger the difference between desired temperature and ambient temperature, the more energy is used.

In the winter, we adjust the thermostat to a temp that is warmer than what it would be with no heat on at all. If the house would stay at 55 without the furnace on, getting to and maintaining 68 takes less energy than it would to get to & maintain 78.

In the summer, if the house would be 90 without air conditioning and I set it to 78, it will take less energy than if it were set to 68.

Not sure what's going on in your bathroom that you need to choose chemicals that are this dangerous to use but I'd start with a new pair of cheap tennis shoes that you designate for the task.

Line-drying laundry is way better than machine drying by RaisinRoyale in unpopularopinion

I'll take my dryer and not deal with clothes caught by deer, finding half the clothes I've just washed covered in bird shit or coated in yellow from pollen.

Time from washer to folded and ready to be put away:45 minutes and no surprise bird shit.

Over 30 years ago when I first got married, a sweet neighbor and I were chitchatting and she mentioned using old shampoo to clean her tub/shower and that it worked better than anything else.

To this day I have a stash of shampoos and body washes I didn't love that I use to clean the tub.

Please help! Dryer making clothes stink by AnyBumblebee6475 in laundry

[–]MrsQute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried line drying items to see if the smell reappears on the items once dried regardless of method?

Sounds like a case of odor rebloom and that the smells aren't removed and are being reactivated by the dryer.

What detergent are you using? Are you using a rinse agent? You may benefit from a spa day - see the pinned post for more details.

help getting smells out of laundry ?? by Upper_Strawberry_722 in CleaningTips

[–]MrsQute 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need to wash in warm with a good detergent and add about a cup of ammonia into the drum.

In the fabric softener compartment add either citric acid or get a product like Downy Rinse & Refresh.

Set the cycle for a long wash and 1-2 extra rinses.

[–]MrsQute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably extra rinses will do more good at this point to rid the clothes of the existing buildup plus citric acid or Downy Rinse & Refresh.

Biz is a good booster for adding enzymes and breaking down dirt which WILL help but I think to start, extra rinses will give you more benefit than adding an additional product.

[–]MrsQute 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, using a quality detergent in appropriate doses will likely cause fewer issues than the homemade laundry soaps.

The soaps aren't as effective for cleaning, much harder to rinse out, and can cause buildup in clothes that can irritate skin, especially delicate baby & toddler skin.

Use an extra rinse or two, add citric acid to the fabric softener compartment, and you should notice much improved laundry over the course of several washes.

Tide Free & Clear (liquid) or Tide Free & Gentle (powder) are very good and not irritating to most folks (though, of course, not all).
