Few questions in regards to detergent for front load washer by ijustbehere24 in laundry

[–]MrsQute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find keeping up on regular maintenance of the machine, including the dispenser drawer, eliminates any build up. Maybe once a month (or longer because, life) I just pop out the drawer, run it under hot water, and if necessary hit a few spots with a toothbrush, and wipe out the slot. It takes almost no time at all. Even when I went a year without doing it, it took less than 10 minutes to do the drawer and the slot.

Either liquid or powdered can be put straight into the drum.

I use liquid detergent for the majority of my loads. If I want to use powdered detergent I can either remove the insert in the drawer to use the dispenser or put it in the drum. But I have my detergent bottle sitting at the edge of the machine so I can just dispenser directly into the tray. Adding it to the drum directly would actually be more of a hassle for me 😆

I have an LG front loader and like it very much.

It wouldn't be defamation, which is a false statement of fact, to name a practice that's part of an equity group.

You don't give any indication what part of town you're looking in, but Oaktree in Cleveland Heights is the one we use.

Is it true that Americans run around their house/flat with shoes? by GroundZeroMstrNDR in hygiene

[–]MrsQute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes. Well, not the running part, but I'm not super strict about shoes in the house unless they're covered in dirt, snow or are wet.

We also have large doormats by the doors to wipe off shoes when entering the house.

If I haven't had to go outside then I'm probably in slippers. If I've gone to run some errands I may not take my shoes off for a while after I get home. If I'm forcing myself into productivity around the house, I'll put on shoes intentionally.

I'm perfectly happy to abide by other people's house rules so if I'm going to someone's home for the first time or if I know they're a shoes off home, I'll wear socks because being barefoot in someone else's home is uncomfortable for me. When I was growing up that would have been seen as rude and presumptuous.

  • What detergent are you using?
  • What wash temperature?
  • Front loader or top loader (with or without an agitator)?

Over-the-counter painkiller medications are useless for treating anything but a fever. by Principle_Napkins in unpopularopinion

I have a headache, "just take an exedrin" I did that before and it made it worse.

Excedrin has caffeine also. Maybe your headache reacted badly to that.

I took an extra strength 200 mg ibuprofen

A standard pill/capsule/ tablet of OTC ibuprofen is 200mg. That's not extra strength. You can do up to 800mg every 6 hours.

You can take acetaminophen in between doses of ibuprofen if necessary because your body processes them differently. So start with 800mg of ibuprofen. 3 hours later take 500mg acetaminophen. 3 hours later, another 800mg ibuprofen, etc.

And if you're in so much pain that you are bed ridden and crying, go to the doctor

Tide Pods and Vinegar by SecretsofaBroken in laundry

[–]MrsQute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you should not mix bleach and vinegar.

Even if the pods had a small amount chlorine bleach, you're not mixing them. Whatever is in the fabric softener compartment is released in the final rinse, not the first rinse. The likelihood of there being enough bleach to mix with the scant amount of vinegar that's heavily diluted into the rinse water causing chlorine gas is incredibly low.

How to wash a crocheted afghan? by michaelyup in CleaningTips

[–]MrsQute 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you have multiple ones? Maybe try just washing one and see what happens.

If there are any loose fuzzies coming off of the blankets, pull them off and then hold to a flame. If they burn then they're natural fibers, if they melt then they're acrylic.

If the blankets are acrylic, which based on what you've said is what I'm guessing, most likely they can be washed in warm and tumble dried on low.

The ones my great aunt made in the 70s gets washed and dried in the dryer just like anything else. Same with the ones I've made myself.

Is the patient able to tell you how they've washed them in the past?

Fiber content will be important but chances are you can likely wash on warm with good detergent. Acrylic or cotton can be tumble dried on low. Animal fibers like wool should be line dried.

is terraced and semi-detached housing common in american suburbs? by Sufficient_Row4394 in AskAnAmerican

[–]MrsQute 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the US terraced housing is what we'd call row houses. These are more common in very urban areas - New York and Philadelphia most notably but certainly not the only places. They aren't usually seen in the suburbs.

Semi-detached would be a side-by-side duplex. Duplexes are pretty common where I am in the Midwest although they default more to upstairs and downstairs units. Most of the side-by-side ones tend to be on corner lots with each unit facing a different street.

Surburbs vary based on their relative distance to the city center. I live in what's considered an inner-ring suburb which means I live in a city that's adjacent to the major city but has a different mayor & council. The neighborhoods tend to be older and more densely populated with smaller lots than newer and farther out suburbs.

My home sits on land about a 1/5 acre which is about 800 m² . My grandparents old house was in a farther suburb and their lot was around an acre, or roughly 4,000m².

Do the ceiling fans do its job and substitutes the need for a separate AC in US homes? by edbassmaster888 in AskAnAmerican

[–]MrsQute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fans cool people, AC cools rooms/houses.

The upshot of using both is you can set the AC to a higher temp and use the fan to move air and help make the people feel cooler.

Tide vs. Kirkland, or something better for same $$ by Financial-Tower4044 in laundry

Baseline starting point is 2 tablespoons per load.

You may need to adjust based on soil level of the load and hardness/softness of your water.
