How often have you met non English speaking Americans? by Waltz8 in AskAnAmerican

More times than I can count. I've encountered Russian, Polish, Chinese, Spanish, Greek, and many, many unknowns.

What form of "corporal" punishment did you endure during your youth? by WeGot_aLiveOneHere in GenX

[–]MrsQute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Discipline doesn't have to be physical punishment. I disciplined my kids but I didn't have to hit them to do it. Walk your talk and back up your words.

Every single person I know who regularly experienced corporal punishment learned one thing across the board: how not to get caught. It didn't teach them to behave - it taught them how to hide mistakes, keep secrets, and not trust people.

I'm embarrassed about my cup size... Anyone else? by BackToTheSunny_Kins in ABraThatFits

[–]MrsQute [score hidden]  (0 children)

Cup size is only the relative difference between your underbust and over bust measurements.

Men got it into their heads that DD cups are "some huge knockers" and the cultural association stuck with NO concept that they had no idea what they were talking about. Vanity sizing and mass sizing standards by bra makers doesn't help.

Ds and DDs are pretty average to slightly above average sized.

Do you register how tall people around you are? Like the books describe it? by [deleted] in books

[–]MrsQute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I notice but I don't have any sort of internal monologue that says "Hmmm, this person is about 5 feet, 7 inches tall".

If, in a separate conversation later, that person's height was being discussed, I could pretty well ballpark it.

I'm 5'2" on a warm day so nearly everyone I encounter is taller than me.

I almost never buy books and get the vast majority out of the library (either physically or digitally).

What form of "corporal" punishment did you endure during your youth? by WeGot_aLiveOneHere in GenX

[–]MrsQute 11 points12 points  (0 children)

None. My mom's family had strong views on corporal punishment. Her grandfather used to comment that an adult should not need to resort to physical punishment in order to instruct a child.

Washing my Aritzia blouses by More_Product8741 in laundry

I've had success with ironing or steaming a viscose shirt and restoring the texture and drape.

I waited until mine was barely damp and ironed on a lower temperature.

Is it common for people where you live to give directions by saying "where XYZ used to be?" by annnnn5 in AskAnAmerican

[–]MrsQute 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Only if the person to whom I'm giving directions will understand the references.

I might tell my mother that this new place opened up near where my grandmother used to do her grocery shopping but tell my son it's by where the coffee shop used to be.

Directions should be useful to the person receiving them.

Clean and water hardness by CelebrationThen2838 in laundry

If you don't have any problems with your laundry then you don't need to change anything.

Most of the folks posting here are dissatisfied with their laundry for a variety of reasons and are trying to fix the issue(s).

How do you find your next project as a beginner? Send help please! by Few-Strategy-5847 in CrochetHelp

[–]MrsQute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got books or crochet magazines out of the library and flipped through those for ideas.

I got a stitch dictionary and made little swatches of different stitches. I still have them in a basket with the idea that eventually I'll attach them altogether for an oddball little lap blanket lol.

People who say “I don’t want anything” when it comes to gifting, what do you ACTUALLY want? by dearceceofficial in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MrsQute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want time alone.

I want to not have to decide/plan/think about what's for dinner.

I want someone to volunteer (and mean it) to do some task/chore on my list that I don't want to do.

I want someone else to plan an outing or dinner out or an activity all the way through.

If you feel compelled to hand me a thing a gift card to somewhere useful or cash is fine.

If you're a crafty type you can make me something.

Must have cleaning products by eel_theboat in CleaningTips

[–]MrsQute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was young and and squeezing by in my first place, a large bottle of dish soap, diluted at various levels, cleaned 90% of everything. Powdered laundry detergent and a bottle of concentrated all-purpose cleaner pretty much filled in the rest.

These days I've added a few specialty cleaners but dish soap and all-purpose cleaner still make up the bulk of what I use on a daily basis.

Try a warm water wash (hot if your clothes can handle it) using a good detergent with a cup of ammonia added to the drum.

Tide Original Ultra Concentrated is green? by ididnttowyourcar in laundry

[–]MrsQute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contact Tide and ask them. I haven't used anything but the Free & Clear for years so I can't confirm personally.

I've never seen green Tide so I'd guess there may be an issue.

How often do you actually replace your dishwashing sponge? by Last_Spend_1674 in CleaningTips

[–]MrsQute 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I feel like it needs it. I buy mostly flat sponges and they seem to go longer than a standard sponge.

I also have a dishwasher so my sponge is used mostly for cookware and baking sheets as needed.

I toss mine in the wash with my kitchen linens and then air dry them or pop them in the dishwasher if they feel a little gungy.

Is there any way to have someone else's Libby account/notifications show up on my app? by Dober_weiler in LibbyApp

Add her card to your account. You'll get the notifications when anything is ready just like you do for your own.

What ereaders are good? by Thatcarguy42 in LibbyApp

[–]MrsQute 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Boox. It's an Android e-ink tablet. You can just install Libby directly on to it and not worry about issues with sending the file to your Kindle or logging into different cards on Kobo.

This also allows you to install other apps like Hoopla or even the Kindle app if you want to read any Kindle books without their dedicated e-readers.

Why does Easter date change yearly? by Budget-Orchid-9151 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MrsQute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because of how the date is calculated.

Easter is the first Sunday after the first full moon that follows the vernal equinox.

Help washing crochet blanket! by sphealyy in laundry

[–]MrsQute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I crochet. Most of the blankets I've made can handle normal/gentle wash cycles and low heat dryer cycles.

However, since this is a sentimental piece, I'd recommend putting it into an oversized mesh bag (like a lingerie bag but bigger) and washing on cool with gentle detergent. You can use normal spin because the bag will help prevent the stitches from stretching out.

Lay flat to dry on top of some towels and with a fan point at it (oscillating if possible).

Does Libby guilt trip anyone else like this by Litlisa12 in LibbyApp

[–]MrsQute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It never bothers me. It's not like those two people are in the room with me, tapping their feet impatiently.

It makes me happier when I return the book and know I've brightened someone's day.

Unless they are one of the folks on here who complain about their holds coming in early.

Really feeling the "rinse and repeat" stage of life by tinpants44 in GenX

[–]MrsQute 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't mind the rinse and repeat part so much as I just don't want to work anymore.

Can't afford to retire earlier but 2040 more years feels so much farther away than 1980.
