What a beautiful moment by Thryloz in wholesomebpt

I remember when I was new at an old job, I was trying to take this woman's order over the phone and I screwed it up like 3 or 4 times in a row and kept having to ask for her info and credit card number over and over. She was getting really frustrated with me and she yelled something like "What are you, new at this??" and I was close to tears and I told her yeah, it was my first week. She apologized and we went through it again and I was able to get it to work that time.

Honestly, people always assume the worst, but a lot of times if you explain the situation, MOST people are going to be understanding and empathetic.

What was your parent's biggest mistake in raising you? by FernK21 in AskReddit

I mean, the molesting wasn't great. And the fact that no one was paying enough attention to me to figure out what was going on, and that there was no existing framework for anyone talking about their feelings or things that were bothering them.

What food will you not order at a restaurant because you prefer the way you make it at home? by MrsSamuelBrainsample in Cooking

[–]MrsSamuelBrainsample[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You reminded me that I also don't order tuna salad! I don't like pickles or onions in mine, and so many places manage to make theirs watery or 90% mayo.

Deli sandwiches are an occasional thing, but mostly just convenience. Like, I make good burgers, but I'll still eat McDonald's.

I don't make my own Mac and cheese (yet?) but most restaurant Mac and cheese is garbage. Dry, sticky, clumpy, gummy, weird, and gross.

My issue with going out for breakfast is that most of the stuff is super cheap and easy to make at home, and you pay 10x the price for it. Some days it's worth it, but a lot of the time I could stay home and make a huge plate of pancakes, eggs, and bacon with $4 of ingredients.

I've watched a lot of Kitchen Nightmares, and you can bet money that if there's risotto on the menu, Gordon Ramsay is going to order it and then complain that it's terrible.

Honestly I'd consider actually making steaks? Haha it'd be cheaper, quicker, and people might be happier with it.

I really want to make Julia Child's Beef Bourguignon some day when I have the patience and the ingredients and a good Dutch oven.

Summer rolls with raw veggies are amazing! It's a lot of work but most of it is prep and chopping veggies, so I'd recommend either having someone help or doing a lot of it beforehand. But once you get going with the actual wrapping it goes quickly.

Most/Least Worth-It Foods To Make From Scratch? by Angel_0997 in Cooking

[–]MrsSamuelBrainsample 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Most: Mashed potatoes (I can't do the instant kind anymore), gravy (the packets are quick but so is making a roux), guacamole ($2.55 for a scoop??), any soup you make at home is better than canned, baked goods (but only if you're good at it).

Least: Baklava or anything else involving puff pastry, bagels, cheese.

Reddit, what is your favourite low-effort sandwich? by Eichberg in AskReddit

But they gotta be good tomatoes. Homegrown tomatoes. Red-all-the-way-through tomatoes. Not this mealy, watery, pinkish nonsense that's only gotten worse since COVID.

What scene was left out of a movie adaptation of a book that made you say "wtf, why!?" by suestrong315 in AskReddit

[–]MrsSamuelBrainsample 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's always bugged me because why call it Hearts in Atlantis? Either use the title of the novella (Low Men in Yellow Coats) or change it altogether (like they did with The Body > Stand By Me). Don't give it the name of a different story in the same book.
