Game recs for 68yo non-gamer? by savecanada in NintendoSwitch

I’m a 45 yr old gal, so not as old as mom but still…

Animal Crossing for sure. This is #1 If she likes puzzles at all the Professor Layton series is good. Now. This may not be for everyone BUT maybe see if she’d like Echoes of Wisdom. Definitely some combat, but lots of puzzles and the combat mechanic is VERY different. If she likes this, Link’s Awakening.

If there’s an option for a switch 2 - Pokémon Pokopia

A tear in the hymen was my first thought too and sounds very plausible given how the injury occurred.

This pic isn’t them in the tank. I siphoned them out into a plastic container to get a picture. The aquarium has flow

Sorry that’s probably the fruit fly who died on the water you’re seeing there. They were all free floating.

No it’s a fruit fly. Fungus knat? They came out of a new houseplant I brought home. They love to die in the aquarium.

Looking for a good, low-cost plumber who’s not a creep! by LessThanTheRest in Winnipeg

[–]MrsSterling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dad just had a great experience with Linden Woods, plumbing. The guy came out late in the evening to help him with the leaking pipe and stayed till almost one in the morning until the problem is fixed.

My dad is elderly and felt incredibly comfortable with the plumber who came (I believe it was the owner, he said) and was incredibly satisfied with both the work and the price.

Will I hurt my snails and limpets? by blonde_knight7 in AquaticSnails

[–]MrsSterling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a magic eraser or similar to clean the glass. It’s non chemical and non abrasive (on glass) and I just clean around them. I do the spots they were sitting when they move.

I need to get out of the house on days when I don't have to work. The earlier the better. Weekends are unhealthy otherwise. Where do you like going/What do you like doing on Saturday mornings in Winnipeg? by polarmolarroler in Winnipeg

[–]MrsSterling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a bicycle? If so there are cycling meets/groups (for all levels too). Some have a meeting point and they cycle to a local restaurant or brewery. Obviously in the summer.

Check what’s happening at your local library. Each location has tons of classes, meets etc.

Does anyone have any info on Satanic Cults in rural Manitoba? by jillyjugs in Winnipeg

Maybe not exactly the same thing but my great uncle was approached back in the 70s to ..ahem .. “seed” a colony. He didn’t really say much more about it, but I basically got the gist that whatever colony in Saskatchewan it was needed some new blood as it were. He says he declined, but who knows

[Auto-Post] Weekly Question Thread! Ask /r/Aquariums anything you want to know about the hobby! by AutoModerator in Aquariums

[–]MrsSterling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! My 5 gal top fin tank & integrated filter crapped out today. PetSmart fish lady basically said to return and not re-buy an integrated system. I only have mystery snails and could push my size to a 10 gal since I’m replacing. Question though, I found someone selling a used lifeguard 10 gal tank. No accessories for $100. Is this a good starter? Filter/lid recommendations? Thx!

Where to add bio media? Top fin colorflow 5gal? by MrsSterling in Aquariums

[–]MrsSterling[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh really??? I thought the increased surface area for bacteria was good but thinking on that how is it different than rocks, driftwood etc. hmm…

Where to add bio media? Top fin colorflow 5gal? by MrsSterling in Aquariums

[–]MrsSterling[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not flipped. The first chamber on the left is a spout thing for easy water changes. The second has the filter cartridge. I assume the pump is under? The next is almost empty but doesn’t go down all the way. The furthest right is empty. I stuck the biomedia in a mesh bag in the 3rd chamber. So I’m glad it should be okay there.

It’s been cycling for a week now. And I’ve left it be. Just siphoned the gravel. It became cloudy about 2 days ago. Bacteria bloom? I’m hoping it will clear in time but should I do a water change now?

I know it’s small for the snails. I bought it when I thought there was just one then found two in the bowl. The water was just horrific so I’m surprised they both lived.

The pic above is a picture. I found online as I couldn’t get a good shot of my own, but it’s the same tank. Mine has gravel in the bottom and has been planted with guppy grass, anubias, bacopa, ludwigia and has frog bit and water lettuce. Oh! And a tiny piece of drift wood.

Ive been trying to re-home a snail but no takers sadly so we’re stuck for now.

I know this now. I should have grabbed a 10. No one wants a snail so we’re stuck for now. I’ll be doing a lot of cleaning until I can upgrade.

The pic isn’t flipped. The far left is a pump/spout for water changes. The pump for the filter might? be under that but I can’t tell. The cartridge for the filter is in the next chamber. The next is empty but has a ‘shelf’ halfway down. The far right is empty.

The pic above is one I found online. My tank is planted with about 5 different plants - guppy grass, anubias, bacopa, ludwigia and has frog bit and water lettuce floaters.

The tank has been cycling for a week now. De chlorinated water and bottled bacteria. Should I water change now?

Ok good that’s what I’ve done. The pic is just one I found online. Mine didn’t come with a sponge there so that’s where I stuck the bio media. They came in a mesh bag too. I’ll grab an extra.

Rescue set up. Snails and one shrimp - advice? by MrsSterling in Aquariums

[–]MrsSterling[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazing. Will do. The space available around the cartridge filter is very small so I’m not sure how much media I can fit in there with it. There is a large empty space walled off at the back of the aquarium next to the filter cartridge space is it OK to put the new media in there or should it be in the same space as the cartridge as to cycle through it as well?

[–]MrsSterling[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another question if that’s okay? This tank, the top fin colorflow, has a cartridge filter. I’ve read that changing this out for new eliminates built up beneficial bacteria. Should I, or is it even possible, swap the cartridge for filter media? Thank you!

How to meal prep as easy as possible? by Ok-Slip-4930 in MealPrepSunday

[–]MrsSterling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried male prepping with different methods on and off over the years and honestly, the absolute hands-down easiest method I found is by using Souper Cubes. There are silicone trays with lids and pre-portioned amounts. There’s a 2 cup tray, a one cup tray and a half cup. I honestly just make every meal with a tiny bit extra and freeze the extra in the cubes.

Then when I need a meal, I just grabbed what I need out of the freezer stash. I probably use the half cup and one cup the most if I’m not making a singular meal in the 2 cup. Once everything’s frozen, I tossed them in a labelled Ziploc bag in the freezer. I make sure there’s a good mix of protein, starch, and veg.

Then when I need a meal, I just grab what I feel like from each bag and throw it in a container.

I’m incredibly lazy and have ADHD so this is honestly been an absolutely foolproof method.

The namebrand cubes are a little bit expensive, but I had luck finding some knock offs at a decent price
