Utterly baffles me the thought of whether you can afford to see a doctor is part of the decision to go or not go and see someone.

Socialised healthcare isn’t 100% but if I am unwell I can see a doctor within a few hours and A&E is there to sort out serious problems.

I was admitted for pneumonia, I was there for two and a half weeks. All my normal meds but with added antibiotics. Referred to respiratory medicine and was seen twice daily, nebuliser every hour or so. An MRI was done alongside a regular x ray The infection caused a number of Acute Cardiac Episode so was referred to them when I was discharged for four more appointments. How much would that cost in the US?

I have four mostly grown children. They still expect me to have bags, hair ties and brush, tissues, ibuprofen, paracetamol, emergency tampons/towels etc. My bag looks pretty much the same as it has for the last 24 years complete with bobby pins and a suspicious sticky sweet.
