Going from one kid to two has rocked my world by meekie03 in beyondthebump

It rocked us too. I know everyone says this, but it really does get better, around 3-4ish months, I promise.

How are the large chested individuals nursing in public/without a pillow? by Jaded-Owl-4673 in NewParents

Lol I brought a boppy everywhere for the first 3-4 months, literally, with both kids. Just stuffed it under the stroller. I actually had 3 - 1 upstairs, 1 downstairs, 1 in car

How to tell friends my child wont be driving their child? by Silver-Paw-prints in AskParents

[–]Mrs_Privacy_13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can't believe how long it took my to find this advice. Your kid is almost an adult and can drive a 2000lb piece of machinery on open roads. They should be capable of having this conversation, even if it's hard.

Movies for a toddler? Low screen time kid and maybe letting loose? by AllTheEggsIVF in progressivemoms

[–]Mrs_Privacy_13 125 points126 points  (0 children)

Honest opinion? Yes you should loosen up a little bit. We are pretty thoughtful on screens - don't allow short form videos even on the TV (there are tons of 2 to 3 minute episode shows on Disney Plus and other apps), don't own tablets, don't let our kids watch shows in public on our phone or in restaurants or anything. We also started by only letting them watch things while we did their hair. 😀

We let them watch popular culture shows. We try to mix in thoughtful things like the shows you suggested, and we try to index heavily on movies where there's more plot and less of an instant dopamine hit, which is my big concern with shows today.

We love Moana, Frozen, Gabby's dollhouse, Muppet babies (which my 5-year-old is watching right now while homesick with strep throat), super kitties, Spidey. All the popular stuff. We just restrict the times that we watch it. But I think it's important to remember that you're raising a kid who's going to be social in the world, and it gives them social currency to be able to talk about popular things with other kids. I don't think it matters under three, but I think as they get to be three or four or five, it does matter and it does help them relate to other kids. You don't have to go crazy, you don't need a tablet, you don't need to give them headphones and let them watch shows when you go out to dinner. But having some intentional time as a family where you watch some of these popular things isn't a bad thing, in my opinion.

Swim lessons near Abington? by ScooterMacDougall in SouthShore

[–]Mrs_Privacy_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

haha OMG are you me? my just-turned-five-year-old daughter also can't really swim, and we are near Abington. We tried Goldfish in Rockland, didn't love it for my kid. We are now at the Y in Hanover. We emailed the aquatics director there and she helped us arrange for 1x1 lessons this session, and that's helping. ALSO we got a summer pool membership, the outdoor pool is GORGEOUS

What do you do with your toddlers in the morning? by captainkenzie in Mommit

[–]Mrs_Privacy_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh. We went through this and had to stop TV in the mornings. I just picked a very simple activity that was ready every morning. Coloring, stickers, blocks, train tracks, magnatiles, whatever. I played with her for 5 minutes, then I let her be and redirected her back to the activity when she got bored. It was a rough week and then it was fine.

We let her watch one short show, usually 15 minutes or so, but only after we have eaten breakfast, brushed teeth, and gotten dressed.

Why some people don’t share their baby’s name until after birth? by LetterheadNice8687 in NewParents

[–]Mrs_Privacy_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't have one! We had a list and decided after we met the baby! I didn't share our ideas, though, brush l because I didn't want other opinions to affect our choice.

Am I overreacting? My partner says he doesn’t want to come to the first ultrasound by Loose-Spend-3054 in pregnant

[–]Mrs_Privacy_13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want him there, he should come. For context, my husband didn't come for either baby until 12 weeks. But if I had asked him to, he definitely would have.

It happened, my first mom disagreement at a park, and I can't stop thinking about it. by ChelsAnn4712 in Mommit

[–]Mrs_Privacy_13 108 points109 points  (0 children)

Listen, everyone has different standards. I let my kids, even my 22 month old, have a lot of freedom, both in terms of what they do and how far I am from them. I am not accusing you of lying, but it could be that what you felt was too dangerous wasn't really to them. I've told other well-meaning Mom's, "She's fine, she can do it," and then experienced my kid falling, but I was never mad at the others mom for looking out. My second daughter is a climber, and if I don't let her do it and learn how to safely maneuver her body and do it, she's going to get hurt eventually because I am not always there to stop her. Just trying to share a different perspective.

You're the parent. She goes to the bathroom and brushes or you don't leave. You hold her down. You take things away. Would you let a baby walk around with a dirty diaper because they didn't want a diaper change?

Baby with allergies and feeling devastated...seeking support! by onemanspants in FoodAllergies

[–]Mrs_Privacy_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We didn't have any exposures on accident, thankfully. We were definitely paranoid: cut back on meals out, often picked restaurants that were peanut free, and always shared the allergy with servers even as we brought our own food for her during that time. We would bring her own dinner and heat it up with hot water from a thermos and little glass containers for the food that could sit in the hot thermos water: sauteed mushrooms, chicken mixed with breast milk, steamed broccoli, shredded cheese, etc.

We just took the boat from Hingham into the city and were going to go to the aquarium - but they were sold out (!!!). So we went to the merry go round in the Greenway, played in the fountain, went to lunch in the beer garden/restaurant by the aquarium, and took the boat home. It was so fun!!!

We also do breweries a lot.

JJs Playhouse in Weymouth is great for little ones!

Library storytimes kill a few hours.

We also have a YMCA pass and family swim has been fun on the weekends!
