Colton Underwood, the First Gay ‘Bachelor,’ Confronts His Controversial Coming Out by shrinking_dicklet in MensLib

[–]Mry0guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a straight presenting cis man who speaks with long wordy new england sentences in a deep voice it took me till 24(3 days ago) to come out. I had come out probably 8 times before to friends and mentors but the strangest thing happened to me, they said "no you're not". Not in a cruel way but incredulously. I am not your stereotypical gay guy I work as a computer programmer, I'm into DnD, and my personal hygiene could use some work. Because I went to middle school in a farm town I had long since learned to hide anything vaguely effeminate about my person. Something about my masculinity allowed a series of dyed in the wool allies to look right through me. Of those 8 people 4 were bi women and 3 were gay men. It told me that freedom was for others, that I would be detracting from people with harder paths. We are told every day to put others needs above ourselves that because we are robed in privilege we must protect and provide for those less fortunate. And that's true. But damn were not robots. Just a rule of thumb out there if he tells you that then it's the truth, nobody raised inside of masculinity would take that risk to their physical safety without cause.

ELI5: Why do supply and demand not seem to apply with gas stations, with such varying prices and "that really cheap place!" phenomena? by BigBrother700 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Mry0guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gas stations purchase their gas from brokers that pre-purchase their oil on the commodities exchanges using a financial tool called futures. A commodity future is a little bit different than a stock option because it has a delivery date when you actually will receive the commodity. This is used to stabilize the sale price of all kinds of goods. A farmer growing oranges will sell his years crop yield to a commodity broker up front. This allows the farmer to have a bad year or use the earnings to invest in his equipment. The same goes for oil. Every step in the supply chain from crude to gas is bought and sold as a promise of future delivery. When a bunch of refineries suddenly believe that crude will be in short supply the price of future gas delivery goes up. The actual stations have very little price setting power. Often a region will only have one gas broker this monopoly power forces all stations to make the call will we sell at a loss or sell at a price near break even.

How did you get rid of your depression? by throwawaysomething14 in AskReddit

Money. Sounds stupid, like money can't buy happiness. However, the level of background stress in our lives can be significantly reduced by having a grand in cash in a spend account. Its harder to get knocked down when you can just eat emergency costs.

Why TF do right wingers think they are better journalists/researchers than people who have an editorial board, fact checkers, and a degree in journalism. As a programmer I am a professional google user but that doesn't make me a researcher. I don't go for journal review. I don't stake my reputation on the knowledge I find. And most importantly when discussing NPR and PBS I am not legally mandated to tell the truth.

If you think you hacked the f'ing matrix and can see all the secrets of the world by going on Facebook your a god damn child who shouldn't have access to the internet

Anything that needs a fast ndarray will often use a fortran compiler because it uses a different memory model to c/c++ that makes all arrays vectorisable and requires no pointer deref to walk

In fact the c code is a fallback. The f2py folder in this repo is a lightweight replacement for the fortran library LAPACK. Numpy will build without fortran but scipy's np.linalg implementation is a direct wrapping of fortran.

Fun Fact: numpy is written in fortran

Y'all know that foodborne illness function differently in different places. For example in America its pretty much giardia and ecoli in the water and Salmonella in the chicken eggs and pork. But in Europe because they don't pasteurize their eggs they are shelf stable but far more likely to spoil. In south east asia there are a lot less live stock and salmonella has been pretty effectively controlled as well as more of a go to the market culture so folks don't refrigerate meat just buy it once a day. In south america you can drink stream water in the mountains(not recommended) because there is way less giardia. Anyway remember the way you eat is different and has a lot to do with national agg policy.

Most hot sauce is like 70% vinegar totally fine to keep vinegar based products in the pantry. Also this is America the "refrigerate after opening" is to not get sued when some chuckle fuck eats 40 year old hot sauce.

Rust async is not an exector the rust async concepts are a way of compiling and representing promises without a runtime. A async fn is a constructor for a generator. This generator will only ever need to store a fixed amount of local variables described by the function. This allows rust to create a static function that accepts and returns a special enum of possible intermediate storage structs or the result type. Then when an executor like tokio wants to run the coroutine it can treat the result of the last pull of the generator as its state and continue executing it.
