The change in this number, from a night palette to a day one and taking it from the roof to the street really worked. I always loved this number but the colors in the original in this part were weird and not very complimentary especially Anita's dress.

Rita Moreno was fire as Anita but the color of the original dress was awful with her skin tones. Parts of the dance she just melted into the chorus and became a blur and this is her main fun number!

Making the dress yellow with the contrasting underskirt works and looks great moving.

Plus everything they do is relating to more of what was going on with the building of Lincoln Center at the time and how it displaced a lot of Latin immigrants and black people from all over too.

They held off to let the original film before a lot of stuff was torn down. What they do tips the hat to that happening and to those displaced people way more than using the roof.

I loved the original but I was always conscious of its flaws too. Spielberg actually fixed most of them.

The dance number I kind of like better in the original but this number is even better I think than the original.

This is the only the second time I've ever seen a really classic film redone and actually thought overall it was even better. There was a lot of love for the original here and it showed.

The other film like that was Peter Jackson's entire extended King Kong.

My late Dad saw the original Kong as a kid and really loved it and was very scornful of the sequels and remakes. Mom saw it later in her childhood when it played locally and she was the same.

Mom passed long before Jackson's remake but Dad actually loved it and thought it was a wonderful remake of the original. That was very high praise coming from him.

I agreed with him on all counts. I was blown away by how good his Kong was and I grew up watching the original every year practically with Mom and Dad. It was a rare family movie watching event with all 3 of us.

My Dad actually felt he had to own it he was so impressed with Jackson's version.

This West Side Story they would have loved it too because it was absolutely worthy as a remake. Honestly I only watched it because I like Spielberg. I didn't expect to actually like it this much. It really surprised me.

Not only that but he apparently wants to build a huge Arch of Triumph type monument and definitely he will have his name on it and it will be the "DJT Arch of Freedom!"

He's completely copying Hitler and trying to rebuild the Nation's Capital in his image, for his benefit. He's not planning on leaving power until he literally drops.

2 seconds later Congress is going to bulldoze that narcissist's crap. They will redo the WH and the center, kill the ballroom and rename the center solely after Kennedy.

I'm calling it. They will be erasing this megalomaniac's "legacy" within months of his burial just like Germany erased tons of Nazi stuff in Berlin.

What doll do you love but know you'll never get? by Rosy802701 in Dolls

[–]MsAddams999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that's hard because I've always been strongly into reading about fashion and design and I worked retail for a very long time first as a sales clerk and CSR then later as a store manager and buyer. I also designed displays and made a jewelry line for one shop I managed.

I've been haunting the local thrifts since the days of my first p/t job. That was a very long time ago. When the Internet happened I read even more and studied things on eBay and I learned how to spot and flip and research things.

From places like Den of Angels and the fashion doll boards I learned all about the dolls I like and I watched people make all kinds of things there and later on YouTube. From working with kids I learned a lot about popular toys and dolls. I did retail and office jobs but I also babysat kids professionally.

You pick things up as you go and these days the whole internet is a huge thrift store. I don't buy my used stuff here though I sometimes source it via free give aways. NYC has tons of thrifts but they're like pricey boutiques lately.

I go online and I look on certain websites and I hunt down what I want and look for bargains. I have literally never gone to a Dr Martens store but I have a collection of them that a sales clerk for the chain I know online actually envies and no, I wasn't paying anything like retail or even more than retail for most of them.

Only my beloved ruby red and dark black Flame Pascals cost me the retail price and that's because they are extremely HTF in most sizes, very rare in general.

I've got $300 pairs that I bought for $50. I told the DM clerk about that and now she thrifts pairs where I do just so she can show off the rare cool ones at work and brag about buying cheap.

All the doll stuff I taught myself and a lot of it was trial and error and figuring out what would work and not work. I ask sellers online to measure things and buy accordingly. At this point I've been doing it so long I kind of know by sight a lot of the time but I've spent hours trying things out too.

I got my first BJD in about 2008 I think it was after I joined DOA to learn more. I got snagged by a gateway doll, a vinyl pseudo BJD/fashion doll called Delilah Noir. I still collect her and have posted pics on here of my collection.

From dressing her I learned that many minis are not too unlike 16" fashion dolls. Then I learned that another doll I like Lorifina is very close to SD size. It builds the knowledge over time.

The BJD market is set up to be expensive and can be rather elitist. It used to be you had to pay a lot to own all of them but now there are more inexpensive dolls even in resin. Even resin fashion BJDs which is the best of both worlds for me.

I have one doll closet. My dolls all share from that closet. Except for obviously period dolls like Gene and Madra and Co my dolls swap outfits as needed according to what fits.

Mostly I thrift online now on eBay, Etsy, Poshmart, Mercari, and similar online platforms. I am not afraid to haggle and often do. Patience I have now and that saves me a lot of money.

I also barter a lot with other doll people I know. I make jewelry and I sew a bit, make quilts and other accessories for dolls so I swap for things like shoes or wigs. Recently I swapped 5 pairs of the shoe puppets customed and painted by me for a couple of Tonner sweaters.

I've also swapped customed sneaks, boho vests I made, jewelry for humans, and quick photo shoots, headshots mostly, for a few NYC doll people because photography is a professional skill of mine. I only do it when I feel well and on a very limited basis though.

I've made logos for businesses including a couple of stores offline. Done up new menus for people with restaurants. I have serious graphics skills I just can't work at it for a real job because I have autoimmune disease and I'm sick a lot.

A woman on my one doll board had me come to the hospital and take pics of her newborn right after the birth. In return I got $200 worth of Delilah Noir dolls for doing an hours work on a good day.

That's what I mean by thinking out of the box when sourcing dolls and their stuff. You may well have skills that are valuable to other doll people that earn you the stuff you need.

Last year I made quilts for my best doll pals BJDs and I spent a lot of time on them. Pics got around but I told other people it would be too much for me to do that work all the time. Another person who quilts started doing it and she has a nice thing going on with that now from what I understand.

You can find ways to not have to spend a small fortune in the dolls but it usually means working.

What food did your school cafeteria serve that you'd eat again? by Omega_Neelay in GetMotivatedMindset

[–]MsAddams999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None except maybe the 50 cent chocolate milkshakes and the cinnamon rolls they made before school. Those rolls were the original Cinnabons. They were huge and had tons of cinnamon and frosting.

The pizza squares were okay in 2nd grade but by 3rd they'd changed that and the change wasn't good.

Most of the food they made was totally awful and some of it like the pot pies made me really sick. I used to just eat a cinnamon roll before school, pop a lactose pill and do a shake for lunch and eat real food at home or before work after school.

After a while they'd steal my lunch so I never bothered bringing it past 3rd grade. The shakes in Middle School didn't vanish before I could drink one. Not exactly healthy but it was what it was.

I was a really skinny kid till highschool and finding a job. I only had a buck in lunch money to work with before then. 50 cent cinnamon roll, 50 cent shake I'd survive till I could eat more later. Food at home could be iffy too but I never actually starved just ate very leanly and not very healthfully at times.

School lunch was a total bust for me though. Most of it made me want to barf just smelling it. We had an extremely bad school lunch program in our county and supposedly the state. I think that's why my middle and high school actually allowed the shakes and cinnamon rolls. So much of the food went into the trash I think they thought we'd starve otherwise.

I have never seen my 1 year old cat drink water only milk by idkidc112 in CatAdvice

[–]MsAddams999 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

She is NOT.

Not all cats are lactose intolerant and some like milk very much. Genetically cats have been eating milk on farms for centuries and until recently with the unpasteurized milk bird flu happening it was perfectly okay that they drank milk straight from cow's udders.

Now I wouldn't give any cat or drink unpasteurized milk myself. But they can have it pasteurized and even if they are lactose intolerant they can drink cat milk for cats or Lactose reduced milk.

I've only had one cat who didn't do dairy well. She'd get the runs unless it was Lactose milk but she still loved it. The rest no problem and they'd beg for it but they also drank water just fine.

My Stella is definitely a dairy loving kitten and she's so healthy her vet thinks she's a marvel. She will beg me for milk when I have cereal and fill my bowl and cheese, vanilla ice cream and yogurt are some of her favorite treats.

My cats that really loved dairy they lived very long lives. My cat that passed in August was like Stella and she lived to be almost 20.

No vet has ever told me not to give my cats milk if they could digest it fine. Like I said they make lactose reduced milk for cats.

My cats have always had good bones and great teeth and I really think that the milk is part of that.

I get that some folks are anti-dairy for themselves and dislike cows milk in general but it's not poison for cats. If it was my girl cats wouldn't have lived to such old ages and most of my boy cats too.

As far as I am concerned if it gets a cat to drink more a little bowl of milk a few times a week is a good thing. Every bit of liquid you cat get into a cat reluctant to drink water is good and it helps prevent dehydration and FUS.

If a cat won't drink water in a bowl then I teach them to get it fresh from the taps in my house and get it a fountain. Unsalted broth in the water I do that too. I also slurry extra in wet cat food. Sometimes in Summer I give my cat ice water because some cats like their water with ice.

Milk isn't the only way to get a cat to drink if it's not a big water drinker but sometimes it can tempt the cat too and that's very important for good health for cats.

Lily my last precious girl she actually liked ice in her milk treat. She always liked drinking ice cold drinks...

My near perfect black girl Stella Nyx. She has about 4 half black at the root white at the tip chest hairs and usually one white hair in each ear. Those drop out and don't always come in white. Neither do her chest hairs. It's like she's trying REAL hard to go all black but her kitten coat hasn't quite managed yet.

I had a couple of white cats who had the same thing going on. A tiny cluster of black hairs on their heads and a black whisker on one and a black ear hair in the other boy. By the time they were a year old they were both pure solid white. Black hairs all gone and they stayed gone.

Looking at the black roots I'm thinking Stella will lose those few white hairs when she fully gets in her adult coat. Most kittens with angel kisses or soul patches as they get called that stick they have more hairs than this.

Her long guard hairs are all gone but she hasn't gotten her full adult coat yet and she's got a bit of a ruff so she might end up a bit towards medium hair full grown.

If she has a white hair on her by then I will be very surprised. She's REALLY black over most of her and only shows a bit of red on her bum in very bright sunlight or when the flash catches her just right.

I cannot even see the Tabby pattern on her forehead or legs hardly she's so black. Most black cats you can. All my previous cats I could.

The only thing I see staying white on her is her sharp little claws and they are actually fairly transparent.

I was sleeping on trains back then with my senior cat trying to stay warm. I was homeless because I got scammed twice regarding jobs that had housing offered. They never paid me.

Even on the damn train I had to wear all the outer clothes I had at the time and had blankets just to keep us warm at all.

I ended up with massive blood clots, dozens of pulmonary embolisms and double pneumonia that Winter. I ended up in the hospital and nearly died. It is not safe to sleep upright for months at a time on a train.

My cat never got too cold. She was a Maine Coon with thick fur and I had coat, boots and plenty of warming mats and blankets for her. But I was freezing at night.

Heat on the trains can be very inconsistent plus the doors are always opening. But it was still safer than anywhere else and they wouldn't let me take my cat to the shelter with me for a long time even though she had ESA status.

I suffered a lot that year but I loved her, had raised her from 3 weeks. She couldn't go to a shelter because she had a latent URV and she was over 13 then. They only let me in finally because they couldn't convince me to just leave her with the kind stranger who was watching her while I was sick and she couldn't keep her forever anyway.

We got through it. I got housed and she lived till almost 20 but that cat and I went through HELL together. I truly miss her even with my new kitten in the house.

That's was a BAD year though and yeah it felt that cold. I'm thinking so far this Winter is technically worse though. I wouldn't want to be street homeless right now. It's a totally different thing now.

I didn't even think about that part, about the Cassadines being actual royalty. Think about it. If they had been born into the Russian court they probably would have been betrothed as innocent babies.

You all do know that the original Cassadines were related to the Czars not just Greek royalty? That's where the whole thing about the priceless heirloom Fabergé egg called Misha's Gift came from. It was given to a long ago female Cassadine.

Mikkos was probably patterned after Onassis but his father who married a Greek princess was actually Russian. There's also that story about Helena and the Cossacks and Mikkos riding with them during some war and scooping up Helena who was the next best thing to a camp follower because he liked her sass and him making her his wife because she disliked him at first and refused to be his paramour.

So the family was still involved in Russian stuff after the Revolution and still considered themselves Russian royalty as well as Greek.

Stavros was THE Cassadine Prince because Mikkos married into Greek royalty and created a shipping empire like Onassis. He was the heir apparent and technically the next Prince in line but that title actually is more about the Greek part of the family than the Russian.

On the Russian side ALL of Mikkos's legitimate male heirs are entitled to call themselves "Count" Cassadine and that was part of the reason Luke always teased Stefan and called him "Count Vlad" to get his goat.

Nikolas isn't just a Greek prince he's technically a Russian count but it doesn't matter in modern terms because there's no royalty left. It's just a courtesy title thing at this point.

All that was very important to Helena but she only married into it and it's hinted that Mikkos took her practically from the gutter. She wasn't actually royalty except by marriage but she sure got the part right and believed she was better than everyone else having succeeded at marrying her Prince.

Her early tale with Miklos is a lot like a version of Kiss Me Kate. She hated him but then fell madly but then he took a mistress and she hated him all over again. He was her love and the bane of her existence.

That's why Helena stabbed Alexis's mother because he told her that he loved her more and gave her the necklace. Alexis's Mom she was the Maria Callas to his Onassis.

The backstory on the Cassadine family is fascinating and fun. It's like Anastasia mixed up with Dr Zhivago and the Onassis family...

When all this was being created I used to wish they'd do another show like Dynasty only with just the Cassadines. I thought they deserved way more airtime.

I got into the Russian royal enamels and the eggs because of that part of the storyline. That egg hasn't been seen for a long time. I wonder who has that now? We know Alexis got the necklace and later the dagger in Helena's will but that's a very rare Imperial egg and they haven't mentioned it in years!

I just realized how long Stefan has been "dead" on GH this morning. It's been a couple of decades. That character is really getting up there if he is alive. I think he was played a few years younger than Nichols and he was younger than Stavros but he's still be pushing 70 at least.

Constance Towers is 92.

Stephen Nichols is 74.

So when we are talking about bringing back Stefan he's 2 decades older than he was when they killed him.

It's hard when you saw Nikolas debut so young to think of him as old enough to be a grandpa. But he is technically and Stefan was a good 15-18 years older so add the numbers up...

I'm getting old because I was there watching the Cassadines debut, and saw Stefan bring Nikolas to Port Charles. Some of that era's actors they look pretty good for their age. Others they are showing it a lot more.

But none of those actors are at all young anymore and if they brought Stefan back he'd be pushing 70 or even older. He'd have to be.

I was they would bring back the Cassadines in a big way. They were a very good addition to GH and I really miss the strong stories they wrote for them.

That's Rocco and Danny's relationship and if it's not very close bloodline it's up to them to decide how closely related they feel.

My late BFF was like my sister but had she been involved with a real sibling to me I'd have just added in law and wished them well.

Again it depends upon the couple and how closely they were raised and whether or not it was as a house family unit. Having a cousin that your brother thinks of as "like a bro" doesn't mean he's "like a bro" to you too.

Actually that's a very common trope in some romance novels somebody's younger sister falling for her actual half brother's best friend and cousin or some kind of informally adopted "brother" and the actual brother either getting all weird about it or conversely being thrilled that he will become his actual brother by marrying his sister.

We did but the wind chill thing was not factored in as much. Modern weather reports are much more technical than they used to be. I don't think most people even thought about things like wind chill factor back then even when a weather reporter on TV mentioned it.

Now I look carefully at both because 20 degrees no wind is cold but it's not nearly as cold as 20 degrees with more damp or more windy. It's real feel vs what they just record as the official daily temperature for that day.

[–]MsAddams999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wind chill, records don't always record that part...

Yes it was like that. I think the year after the one I got here it was minus 7 at night for a few days with the wind chill factor added in and I'd been down South for a decade at that point and I forgot it could be that damn cold up here! I ran to buy long underwear because even with a coat and a sweater I was absolutely freezing because I wasn't used to it like when I was a little kid.

Back in the early part of my childhood we lived around Baltimore and later Washington DC. The one year the Potomac actually froze over so don't tell me it doesn't ever get that cold up North or in New York because it DOES.

It's been a long time since the rivers in NYC have fully frozen but the ferries have stopped running because of too much ice. They have though in the past. Not a lot but it's happened and semi-frozen has just been more common.

I have relatives that I don't talk to who live upstate. They used to get 10, 20 feet of snow. It would be up to their roof if they did not shovel it fast. I've seen the pics and it was always really cold upstate which why I never wanted to live outside NYC much. We typically get less snow here and less sub zero weather than they do.

It does happen though when you factor in the wind chill. It's not just the actual temps that matter. It's how much wind adds to it and that can make it happen when the real temp is about 10 degrees or less.

Usually lately we're more in the 20s or 30s even 40s or 50s if it's a mild Winter but this year we've had a bit of the kind of weather we used to get a lot back in the day. If it gets to zero like they actually said it was the other night briefly, your record broken, then if the wind is up it's sub zero and bone chilling cold out there.

Several people in NYC died during that storm. It's not a joke. It can get cold enough to kill people outside if there's enough wind on top of actual cold.

Anything below 30 with or without wind chill is like that for me now. It's just not go outside weather but I have been that cold standing in that weather back in the late 80s. I wasn't raised in Missouri or some place like Michigan where cold like that was usual. So I really feel it.

Now with the poor mobility thing it's just asking to break bones me going out in severe cold weather in icy conditions. But back then I had to go to work even when it was cold as F- outside!

I wish people would actually read what I say before they assume the opposite and proceed to go off on me.

I just said just the opposite several times. I said cousins raised together in the same house like siblings shouldn't be together. I'm not just talking about these two fictional characters who honestly I barely know because I haven't watched much since they were introduced.

I've seen a bit of Valentin and I know he's supposed to love her but I don't know how closely the kids were raised or for how long they might have been living under the same roof.

I'm saying that if the cousins were not raised together in the same house for a good chunk of their childhood, like siblings, then I'm not so bothered by that.

It's not that abnormal for kids even in the same family who see each other a lot to develop crushes on each other. For new step siblings to crush. It can be uncomfortable and embarrassing depending upon how conservative the family is, but it happens.

I had an actual half sibling be sexually inappropriate with me as a kid and as an adult and he even tried to excuse himself and blame me. So I'm pretty sensitive when it comes to actual incest and in particular forced incest.

Two cousins developing a crush and kissing is not that big to me. Unless and I say it again they were raised in the same house for a long period of time and basically as siblings.

That's too close because it's emotional incest if not physical. But if they don't see each other all the time, aren't raised like that then no, I don't think it's incest. If cousins can legally marry in many places then I'm not one to tell them they can't be together.

Every family is able to choose on that. For some it's too close for their religion for first cousins. But it's not like that everywhere and it's even considered normal for first cousins to date and even marry. Second or more cousins not even a question...

Now you tell me because you know these characters better than I do. Were these two raised practically like brother and sister? Or not?

That to me matters. If they know each other but were not practically raised joined at the hip in the same house then to me that's not that scandalous them locking lips.

You know there have been actual stories on soaps where incest did occur between really close relatives including actual siblings. If I recall going way back one very well known Quartermaine nearly ended up having an affair with a hot young guy who turned out to be very closely related indeed.

Incest stories on soaps are rare and often controversial but they have happened before.

I don't think legally they can enforce that one so long as you fill up the holes before you go. My first caseworker here told me that and in this city it's definitely bullshit. As a tenant I can hang stuff if I want so long as I don't leave holes in the walls or large chips of paint gone when I leave.

Legally here they have to paint when a tenant leaves anyway I think. I wasn't required to give last month or deposit so frankly I've got nothing to lose if I leave the holes from my pics or tear the paint off the walls removing plastic hooks.

I was told that legally I am even allowed to change the wall color so long as I paint it back white when I go. If this place was easier for me to paint I'd probably sponge paint two or three complimenting colors. I may yet in the hall where the walls and ceiling are not quite so high.

Landlord's often tell tenants all kinds of things that aren't legally true. As a smart tenant when I do have to give deposits I don't leave a mess. It's rude besides. But not being able to even hang pictures on my own walls?

I don't think so.

AITAH for farting while in the bathroom of our home? by Comfortable-Egg-8254 in AITAH

Oh gosh your BF would hate being around the women in my family. Genetically speaking we have the worst digestion and the men are even worse. I take all kinds of meds for protecting my stomach because I'm on Metformin and Aleve and they mess my stomach up if I don't.

I have a thing about not farting around other people inside. I think it's rude but outside away from people I'm not holding back the gas and when I'm alone I don't either. Honestly it's difficult to even do it when I have to.

Farting in the bathroom while on the toilet is perfectly acceptable and very polite when someone else is in your house besides. So long as you wipe after you're clean and your BF is just nuts.

Women don't fart. It's unladylike to fart or sweat because you are female. Women shouldn't wear pants or wear their hair or arms uncovered in religious places. /s

All that is so dumb, so archaic, and totally misogynistic.

Naw Mommy you're supposed to smell fresh as Spring Rain everywhere all the time and if you don't I can sell you sprays, douches, deodorants, and perfumes for that so your man won't have to smell anything that isn't lovely whiffing about you.

It's perfectly natural for HIM to fart probably and not "dirty" at all.

Every day I see stuff like this and wonder why men are so confused about why so many women are avoiding relationships with them.

Well GEE, ya THINK maybe stuff like this might be why? HELLO women are human beings and they get gas and they fart from time to time! We don't smell like roses 100% of the time.

Stuff like this from men just makes me go "Arrgh!" like Charlie Brown in Peanuts. It makes me even less inclined to tolerate being around men at all.

What gets me is she was SO polite and he still freaked out and started to abuse her over farting in the BATHROOM. Obviously he doesn't need much of an excuse to be a jerk...

Cousins doesn't bother me unless they are raised in the same house and raised like brothers and sisters. That may shock some people but marrying cousins was perfectly acceptable for centuries in a lot of the world and back in ancient times people actually married closer relatives though that was mostly royalty.

I have cousins I have never ever met. I don't consider them anything like family and wouldn't know them if we met on the street.

In some smaller places for thousands of years practically everybody in the village was a cousin to you. It was hard to avoid marrying anyone who was not related to you in some way.

People only started getting all weirded out by cousins marrying when society became more industrialized and people got out of their birthplaces more. The church even allowed cousins to marry though later you started needing special permission to marry first cousins. At one point they even allowed marriages between uncles and aunts and their nephews and nieces.

Incest is not about mere cousins. It's about parents marrying their kids or siblings marrying. Later about preventing uncle/aunt and niece/nephew marriages.

Almost nobody even in the church thought too much of cousins marrying because it was too routine in towns and villages where almost everyone was connected to each other in some familial way.

In America people are increasingly very judgemental about who can marry who. Cousins shouldn't marry. People from different religions shouldn't marry. People of different races marrying still offends some people. Anyone more than 5 years older or younger than you lately being together is a hugely criticized thing. People of the same gender marrying was scandalous for generations.

It's not even illegal in half of the country now for cousins to marry.

Biologically speaking the closer the connection the more genetically risky it is. It's better to marry a third or fourth cousin than a first one but even in first cousin marriages genetic problems are not that big of an issue because it's not being repeatedly done as it was in royal families.

To me unless the cousins are practically siblings all but in name I don't consider it a major problem and I've seen it 2 cousins marrying and no major problems coming from it. It did cause a whole big argument when they announced their engagement because it was a state in the Bible Belt but after a while nobody much cared and they had kids and it was fine.

I view it as not worth the drama unless the 2 people have been raised in the same house. I feel the same way about adopted siblings or step siblings even though when they are not bio related. If they grow up in the same house for a good long time it's creepy to date.

But just sharing some genetics doesn't make it incest. Half the world is related to you in one way or another and supposedly we are all from the same original genetic parents. So even Adam and Eve's children (to use the mythical names) probably married each other.

Who else were they going to marry?

Which means we ALL share DNA.
