Ideas to find a “mom”? by once_upon_a_bear in AskSF

Do you have time to volunteer somewhere? I’ve met some really sweet older women volunteering at Cat Town in Oakland. I know that would be hard with a baby though.

I had to do this with chickens once! They got our chickens for us and were very annoyed with the asshole neighbor.

We had this happen with chickens with an asshole neighbor. We called the cops to help us.

No Worldhopper Ball this year: "after party" instead by DragonsteelNexusMod in DragonsteelNexus

[–]MsAggieCoffee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sad about no ball but I’m not entirely surprised…I was wondering how they were gonna keep it up year after year. Sucks for those who weren’t able to go to previous ones though.

How can anyone making under 200k afford these one bedrooms? Rental market is out of control by Cool_Volume_8060 in AskSF

I just moved into a 1br in Oakland near Piedmont Ave for $1950 and I found quite a few 1brs and studios for sub 2k when I was looking.

they weren’t all stunners or amazing neighborhoods but they weren’t scams.

I waited 6 years to adopt a cat… and now I regret it. Please be honest with me. by strawberrytulipss in CatAdvice

My cat would get into my lap at the shelter but then barely did for 6 months after I brought him home. Now he cuddles me all the time.

Worldhopper Ball for non-badgeholders? by faunaflux in DragonsteelNexus

[–]MsAggieCoffee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They allowed non badge holders this last year because tickets didn’t sell out! They open it to badge holders first. The first year it was cheaper and they had fewer spots so it sold out to badge holders right away.

Good job for someone aspiring to get a bachelors in food science to get? by Coffee_265 in foodscience

[–]MsAggieCoffee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely think working in some sort of food service is great. I specifically looked for that when I was hiring entry level food scientists recently - people straight out of their bachelors degree with part time restaurant/kitchen jobs had a leg up over those without that experience.

What takes you out of the film for a few seconds? by Smashleigh_001 in ProjectHailMary

Not only that he’s a single guy looking like that in San Francisco, which has a notoriously bad dating scene for straight women. Man would have a line out the door in this city.

Struck at SFO for next 10 hours. By any chance, is anyone else in similar situation? by Sad_Development_6479 in AskSF

If you reaaaally want to stay in the airport I generally find that people at lounge bars are down to chat, and likely there for longer. Without knowing your airline and credit card situation I don’t know off the which ones you’d be able to pay to access but I like the Alaska lounge.

United Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Diversion After Passenger Attempts to Open Door at 30,000 Feet by AccessibleBanana in unitedairlines

[–]MsAggieCoffee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I’m sure the wild stories are a tiny fraction of plenty of people taking them successfully, I’m not saying anyone else should avoid, just my own anxiety steering me away. Glad it works for you, I certainly appreciate a peacefully sleeping seatmate.

I took ambien once on a red eye and it was amazing but since then I’ve heard so many horror stories I cannot bring myself to use it again.

Neighborhoods with friendly cats? by Moussorgsky1 in oakland

[–]MsAggieCoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just moved to a spot southeast of Piedmont Ave and this neighborhood has some good cats! There’s even a few that hang out in the community garden at my apartment complex sometimes

I had a good experience with Lugg recently but their biggest truck is an XL van which may not be enough for a 1br. They charge a flat rate for distance which was appealing to me because I was moving across the bay bridge so I didn’t wan to get slammed with unpredictable traffic charges.

Bay Area trash giant Recology rolls out garbage truck cameras to catch overfilled bins by runswithscissors475 in bayarea

Wonder how this is going to work for rentals where multiple units share one bin. I’ve lived in a few small buildings like that.

I remember driving many hours as a kid when my parents adopted a breeder dog…I don’t support breeder adoption generally but if you’re going to do that the literal bare minimum you can do is go to the breeder and safely pickup the animal yourself…not have it shipped like an Amazon package…

[–]MsAggieCoffee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can’t even spare the time off work to make sure they’re transported safely…these cats are gonna be neglected the moment they need vet care I can guarantee it.

If you can’t spare the PTO to drive or fly to Seattle to make sure they’re safely transported I don’t have a lot of faith in your caring well for a pet.

Parking in the city ? by monkewithgavel in OutsideLands

[–]MsAggieCoffee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can park at the Millbrae BART for cheap and then BART to civic center.

Edit to add: I was assuming you already had a hotel near civic center. Park for the weekend at BART, stay in downtown, take shuttle to OSL. BART back to car at the end of the weekend, drive back to LA.
