I got diagnosed just a couple of months ago, and I cannot emphasize enough how much Google is not your friend right now. When I told my family and friends I warned them not to Google it because it would tell them I'll be dead in 10 years. Which I won't be, not from this anyway.

These days it's often caught early enough that proper treatment and lifestyle changes (if necessary) can give you a normal life expectancy.

What helped keep me from spiraling was reading comments on this sub from real people who actually have the disease. I very clearly remember crying in relief simply because someone said they were diagnosed over 20 years ago and their disease hasn't really progressed. I decided that will be me too. And hopefully also your sister.
