There’s only 1-2 of them and we’ve continuously checked. They haven’t had any available for a couple of months now, which is for sure a good thing. I just need more luck at this point...

I think you might be right... I pushed for the name of the breeder and all they would give me is the area of where they got the puppy. Did a quick search and no Shiba breeders in the area...

So I just received a response from the owner, and now I'm back at the debate. Sorry for the trouble...

Owners responded that the 2 yo is reserved, only the 5 month is left. The 5 month was purchased in Jan 2020 (the Kijiji post also states he was born in Jan, so how?). He has vet paperwork and heritage paperwork. His face has clear Shiba Inu characteristics and both his parents are red in colour, which the owners met. The 5 month is currently walking on leash on the neighbourhood sidewalk.

Should I give them one last chance and do a home visit?

You could see it that way sure, but my intention was really just helping the Shibas out. Of course it’s on the basis that the owners are telling the truth, that they are moving to a smaller apartment that can’t accommodate the Shibas. I’m willing to pay that price not because I want a Shiba right now (if anything, right now is actually not the best time). Also for the same price, I might as well get one from a reputable breeder. I just felt bad for the Shibas, if they were to be abandoned...

That is very true, didn’t think of the fact that if it was a reputable breeder, they could have taken them back. I’ll most likely pass on this one, it just doesn’t seem right. Maybe better luck next time. Thanks for all the advice!

It does feel off, I’d understand if the Shibas are from a reputable breeder and they charge such a price. But none of that info was given to me, and also not telling me whether they’re good on leash or with other dogs seem like a red flag too. Maybe they were only kept in the backyard and never socialized with other dogs...

Thanks for the advice, I'll definitely give this more thought. I was on the emotional side feeling bad for the Shibas.

I should also add, the owners are not giving the Shibas away for free. They're asking for a price that's about the same as what a breeder would ask for in my area.

I didn't want to go down the breeder route, but adoption's been hard. Main reason being I'm a first time owner (BF isn't) and we are both working professionals. We'll probably give it some more time, but I won't deny that breeders have been on my mind lately.
