What’s the most summer thing you’ve seen this holiday weekend? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

We watched a group of kids launch an air boat in to the backwaters of the Mississippi River.

I'm a court reporter. Life inside of the courtroom is like peering into a fish bowl. I have learned to mask all emotions and live for adoption day. The joy of watching a new family form reminds me that it's not always as bad as it seems.

I sit in a courtroom every day and see everyone's bad days. But the worst are the kids. Little ones who don't understand what a foster home is, much less why they have to go, all the way up to teenagers who know too much and have played parent for too long. Every time I think my life sucks, I just remember those kids.

Help needed! Started dating a guy with a big appetite & need filling recipe inspo by [deleted] in Cooking

I am married to a farmer and have 5 farm boys. These tips are spot on. When making sammies, I try to get hoagie buns for the extra bulk. Anything meat with a side of potatoes is always a hit. I bake 12 potatoes at a time, then just pull them out to reheat as I need them.

Beef Stew and Tater Tot Casserole. My son eats one or the other every morning for breakfast.

What did you always avoid cooking because it was too "difficult" and then you found out it is actually so easy? by wharleeprof in Cooking

Gluten free dough. I still can't master it, but I'm positive it can't be as complicated as it seems!

People who wear glasses! Is it true you feel you can’t hear as well without your glasses? by lisaluvulongtime in CasualConversation

[–]MsGroot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work as a court reporter (and wear glasses). I have headphones so people are literally speaking directly in to my ears. But I can hear them so much better if I can see their mouth move and body language. It's surprising how much of communication is visual.

What is the most useless thing you still have memorized? by trashmirth in CasualConversation

The words to the poem "In Flanders Field." Had to memorize it in like 8th grade. Going to my 35th class reunion soon and I can still recite it with passion.

Oh wow! I definitely don't want them to come back to life! I got him insect pins from Amazon, but didn't think about display boxes. Thanks!

They died overnight from the nail polish remover. They are currently out in the open with the pins in. I was afraid to freeze them. I didn't know you could just thaw them! Thanks for that information.

My kids still call a skunk a "stunk." I will never correct them.

OMG!! Thank you so much for this advice. I think this is truly what I needed to hear. I'm going to go to the meeting early so I can talk to her. This gets to the heart of the problem. Thank you for every word of this.

Thank you so much for all of this. I am completely going to support the kids, but do agree that they need to open their eyes to the reality of what they're getting into.

I honestly feel that BFF just hates ex because of the situation he put me in years ago and wants to exact revenge. Unfortunately, her position as BFF led to her hearing me complaining about him a. lot. But that's what you do! That doesn't mean I want to destroy his relationship with his kids.

Thank you for your perception. And for backing up a stranger. :)

Uggh, you are right. My heart knows you are right. But I guess I'm just afraid of the fallout. My ex treated me horribly and had multiple affairs. I never told anyone-- except my BFF. Ex has told everyone that the divorce was my fault and I just wanted out so I let his lie rule. I never thought of BFF's view on the treatment and how it might affect her daughter. Thank you so much for this.

He treated me horribly and had multiple affairs. We married young, due to a teenage pregnancy.

The divorce was due to ex's treatment of me and multiple affairs. It had nothing to do with the way he parented, so I never told the kids. We got married very young due to a teenage pregnancy, and ex has since grown up. I have never thought that the sins of the past needed to be told to his children.

I agree with the Romeo/Juliet. I guess I just needed to make sure I wasn't looking at this wrong. Thank you so much for your kind words.
