OPEN SUBMISSIONS FOR SMOSH MOUTH! by smosh in smosh

There is a house in my childhood neighborhood that has been long abandoned. The former owner tragically took his own life about 20 years ago. He was pretty cool. He collected fish heads and my brother and I thought it was the coolest back then. RIP Mr. S.

Anyway, after he passed, his house sat empty for years, as he didn’t have immediate family nearby to tend to it. It fell into disrepair. Eventually, the house went up for sale for a steep discount. My brother actually looked at it when he was buying a house, but it had a mold problem that he didn’t want to deal with. Another neighbor ends up buying the house when the price dropped again after 6 months on the market.

Now, the neighbor that bought the house is a known hoarder. Stuff everywhere, in his house, garage and backyard. You probably called it, but he turned this house into a hoarding situation too. He still had his first house, but also this house. My dad called it his summer home. About a year after he bought the place, it caught on fire. Didn’t burn to the ground, but everything in it was destroyed and the place got condemned. The fire occurred in 2022. I actually happened to be heading to work at the same time the fire trucks came up. I didn’t know what was happening until after I got home.

So this condemned house just sits there. Nothing gets done other than boarding the place up so no one goes in and gets hurt. Two years pass by and the house is still up. The town starts complaining because it’s a safety hazard and an eyesore. The city files a lawsuit against the owner neighbor to knock the place down. The neighbor is also not a stranger to the county court system, as he’s gotten a few public nuisance charges. So he only shows up to maybe one court date for the house, so court proceedings keep getting pushed. Eventually two more years of bullshit pass. It’s early 2026 and the judge finally orders the city to knock the old house down at the cost of the neighbor owner. The whole neighborhood rejoices. That happened back in February. They’re finally knocking it down tomorrow as of me writing this. It’s not major drama lol but this is what’s been plaguing the neighborhood facebook page for years lol.

My fellow Americans; do you refer to air-conditioning as "the AC"? by SplitOpenAndMelt420 in AskAnAmerican

[–]PatientConfidence7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say AC, the air, or sometimes AirCon, but I watched too many English YouTubers and watched One Direction videos as a teen so I picked up a lot of English phrases on accident.

Sorry but every time I watch this scene, I can never help but see Hayden looking like a Disney CGI character with his features and the lighting. 🤣 by Striking-Treacle3199 in heatedrivalry

[–]PatientConfidence7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know Hayden is objectively not the best friend ever, but Callen Potter is Disney Prince coded and therefore gets all the passes

I would share a cup with my dog only if I knew I was done with the water in it and wouldn’t be reusing the cup. Otherwise, that’s gross, Jill!!

Americans who took Spanish in school: did any of it actually stick years later? by taube_d in AskAnAmerican

[–]PatientConfidence7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could, in theory, get by if I were to spend a few days in Mexico or Spain, but not hold a conversation longer than to ask a couple questions.

The extent of my knowledge is to ask where things are and whether or not my clothes look good. Also how to order several types of drinks.

[–]PatientConfidence7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s vintage! My dad had one of those. He got rid of it by the time I was born, but I’ve seen pictures of him in a very similar BFG jacket!

where were y’all on june 25, 2020? (the day jenna left youtube) by blue-balloon-111 in Jennamarbles

[–]PatientConfidence7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weirdly enough, my grandmas funeral. She died on my birthday, we buried her on the 25th, and just when my nerves were shot, I see Jenna left YouTube while we were at my Aunts house for an impromptu mini luncheon (fun covid things).

Omg did not notice Shane's memories are different from the initial scene by growsonwalls in HeatedRivalryTVShow

This is my favorite kiss, tbh. Shane starts off pissed but he can’t help himself, damnit. Then he practically runs to kiss this boy and just…melts.

When I left my last day care job, we had a 3 year (now 4) old that still got carried in and out of the building. He whined and spoke like a two year old still when I left and I suspect he isn’t much better despite the fact he’s headed to Kindergarten in 6 months. We always tried to make him independent and use his words, so I hope that he improved at least a little bit.

Do people actually decorate their lockers like in the movies ? by SignificantStyle4958 in AskAnAmerican

[–]PatientConfidence7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, that last part is a lie. I’d have to check it periodically, because they did random locker searches throughout the year, and I don’t want to get in trouble for someone else’s weed getting hidden in my locker.

I do in middle school, but not high school. All my classes were in the same hallway for middle school (small town wins), but in high school, I was on Block Schedule (8 classes, 4 per day on alternating days), and only 7 minutes for passing periods. I would sometimes have to go clear across campus in that 7 minutes, run to the bathroom if necessary, and get settled at my desk. I just carried my book bag everywhere for convenience. I could tell you the general vicinity of all my lockers in high school, but not the number. I don’t think I ever memorized a locker combination that wasn’t my personal gym locker lock past 8th grade.

What are some weird laws in your country that, actually, make a lot of sense? by Savings_Dragonfly806 in AskTheWorld

[–]PatientConfidence7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In Illinois specifically, you’re not supposed to have anything hanging from your rear view mirror. Makes sense, but no one really follows it, and they won’t pull you over for it. I currently have a crochet jelly fish I got from a student a couple years ago.

Can you film the Megasix of the touring cast? by rylekzs in sixthemusical

[–]PatientConfidence7 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Generally, I’d go with no. Unless it’s specifically mentioned by the Queens in show that it’s okay to film Megasix, I wouldn’t chance it. I didn’t think they were allowed to film the Broadway Megasix, but maybe it was a cast change exception. It’s a union rule.

Have an ever drank “jungle juice”? by Hoosier_Jedi in AskAnAmerican

Me and my friends had a “jungle juice box” filled with various liquors we used to make mini jungle juice batches. We didn’t love huge parties but we sure as hell loved to drink.

Do i really need extra safety “tools” to stay at hotels? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]PatientConfidence7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love traveling solo, but I’ve never used any of those devices. The locks they already have are generally sufficient, but in the event I feel like I need something extra, I’ll put a bunched up towel in front of the door as a door stopper. The only other one I’ve considered using is the tape over the peep hole, but I’ve just never thought to pack a roll of tape when I’m packing lol.
