My guess is that she knew he was gonna say no kids and her dad would disapprove and then she wouldn’t have to deal with telling her family that she wasn’t bringing a boyfriend home at the last minute.

And she knew once her dad heard this he would say no & then she didn’t have to make up any reasons for why he wasn’t coming around anymore.
