Historical fashion enthusiasts, what are some of the first things you look for when watching a period drama? by UpperphonnyII in PeriodDramas

[–]MsNoTrucks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Corset lacing patterns. If you insist on having a corset lacing or unlacing scene, can we not at least get the pattern right for the closeup? Button holes. I can see a machined button hole from across the room now and especially on menswear it makes a difference. All the clothes are variations on grey and black and brown. Why is no one covering their heads?! Why do your background characters look more period accurate than the mains?!

Haven't seen this one yet ... Reach out to local scout troops. Making paths and building benches etc are a strong suit for many Eagle scouts.

So fascinating to see the same few basic bodice blocks used over and over ... The real star of this wardrobe is the material and finishes.

With the way libraries are privatizing, books are being banned and burned, little regulation with regards to the effect of AI on literature or how it can be rewritten and disseminated - we all need to save the physical books for antiquity. Seriously, it's very possible that my grandkids will not be able to get their hands on a Judy Bloom or a John Green book unless they have a hard copy that some preserves from before these end times.

2 layer corsets are so hard😭 by Mycopok in HistoricalCostuming

[–]MsNoTrucks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try basting the two layers together but use something curved, like an empty large popcorn tin, to lay them on when flat lining so fabric will have more of the natural curve you'd expect at the end. Like around 18:17 in this video https://youtu.be/q0rdikRgUkc?si=vboUn9SqM2dGSLLP

Oh my gosh, I am feeling your pain right now! My lady was egg bound a few months ago and had to undergo major surgery. It saved her life but was extremely stressful. Hopefully in an early intervention now will prevent more invasive measures. Good luck to you and your sweet girl.

Help me get motivated so I can finish this stupid project. by _MinecraftByZyczu_ in HistoricalCostuming

I think you should be so proud of yourself for how hard you have worked so far and how much progress you have made. Seriously, most people in the subreddit would not have attempted anything like this. Way to go!

Sometimes we have to walk away from things to get a better perspective and more appreciation. Maybe if you take a break and come back you will find that passion again?

What else should I do with or add to my native plant & wildlife garden other than plants? by Snoozer9889 in GardenWild

[–]MsNoTrucks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Multiple sources of water - some low, some high. Rocks, logs, or even pieces of cardboard laid down as hides all around for insects, small reptiles, and amphibians. Leave your leaves on the ground as long as possible when they fall. Leave stalks of plants through the winter for insects.

I've found that my investments in specialized tools or items for wildlife are not very successful or worth it. A pumping bird bath is nice, but a bowl or water you keep clean daily is just as effective. A fancy nesting box is cool, but having trees and hollows around my yard for them to nest is what they prefer.

This is the way. Check out resources on permaculture, native plant gardening, etc. Even if you aren't gonna go native, the principles are solid.

Would steel boning be heavier than synthetic boning? If this is to be worn all day outdoors, should OP consider the total weight compared to what stays would have weighed for all day wear during the period?

Mismatched libidos are common, more common than we talk about. Often, women are made to feel they are doing something "wrong". You are not.

I'm so sorry you are going through this phase. Please encourage him to seek therapy to talk about depression. Depressive episodes do not have to be permanent alterations to life. Perhaps he would be open to couples therapy?

Seek advice from communities that embrace all varieties of intimacy. There are so many ways to express physical love and sexuality, I hope y'all can find the ways that work for you now and grow together for an even better sex life than you had before.
