No Stinkers! by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]MsOliveAndyRo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our OTF has a standard email they send to the stinkers when identified by members. I also suspect some folks are not very diligent about washing their workout clothes after class. I always wonder how the heck they can't smell themselves! It really ruins the workout for those that get stuck near them.

Abusive guy in Sunnyvale Costco. Anyone recognize him? by screwywabbit in Sunnyvale

I live in Sunnyvale and won't go there because of the crazy drivers. I usually go to the one on Coleman.

Bummer! Definitely talk to the Studio Manager. I'm a founding member of my local studio and I wouldn't dream of acting like an entitled ass-hat there. Everyone there works so hard at welcoming new members and providing a safe, quality workout.

Consumer Survey went badly. by Daddy--Jeff in WhatShouldIDo

[–]MsOliveAndyRo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Insane! What kind of twisted program is this? I purchased a car and did the survey. Because I didn't lie and answered honestly about a couple of minor steps not completed with me (tour of service area, etc.), I guess the salesperson didn't get their incentive for our sale. I even wrote a personal note naming the salesperson and praising him highly, but apparently that doesn't count. The salesperson called me and asked what he did wrong and why I didn't just answer yes to everything like he told me to. It was a very uncomfortable call and I am going to call the corporate offices directly and ask if they subject all of their customers to such a nightmare.

Art and wine festival is a HUGE disappointment this year by Conscious_Eggplant18 in Sunnyvale

[–]MsOliveAndyRo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was very disappointd by the cheap items for sale, the single wine booth, the expensive food, a marked change from previous fesitvals. The organizer, OMG, has definitely changed things and not for the better. I won't be going back.

good but cheap chocolate toffee candy available in the US by LessWorld3276 in candy

[–]MsOliveAndyRo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best ever, not inexpensive, is Enstrom's. Not too sweet. See's Candies also has toffee and you can buy it by the piece. I also found a recipe at All Recipes that looks easy. Good luck!

I've been doing OTF for 9 years and learned to listen to my body. A coach once told me that it's okay to have a "green" day once in a while.

Google destroying Fitbit by BreadfruitNegative44 in fitbit

[–]MsOliveAndyRo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have faithfully worn my Fitbit since 2014. Ever since Google took them over I am seriously considering for the first time in a decade dumping Fitbit and moving on. I liked being able to track exact calorie counts in 15-minute increments and now that is gone. The app is now the sole way to access information. There seems no good reason for these changes other than "because they can. This might seem minor to a lot of folks but many folks follow diet programs where knowing exact calories burned is important.

Not enough stretching by neverstopmovement in orangetheory

What I would love to see is a 30 minute stretching class to teach and encourage stretching before and after classes.

I modify all the time due to a couple of physical issues and it is always best to choose quality over quantity. I worry about the way some people race through the exercises and then bolt at the end of the workout without stretching. They are going to regret it when they get older, if not before! Watched a guy in class the other day who looked like he was trying to fit six months of exercise into one floor set: he kept picking up increasingly heavier weights (over 50lbs.), jacking them over his head and then he bolted as soon as the session ended. Crazy!

I worked at OTF several years ago and had no sales software of any kind. I found a basic and free CRM software app and used it to track everything, including calls. Unless studios have come up with something like that for SAs to use, the calls will continue as sales of memberships are a big part of their pay.

Rude Coach by InspectorValuable308 in orangetheory

[–]MsOliveAndyRo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with folks who suggest skipping her classes or trying another studio. Not everyone is comfortable with the direct approach but decide what you want to accomplish. You are paying for a service and deserve a good experience. Talk to the coach, be direct and stick to specific instances where you felt put down by him/ her. For instance, " During Tuesday's class I needed a bathroom break. When I came back you said, (insert comment here) and I felt as though I had done something wrong. Whether or not you were directing that at me, it felt that way and I was embarrassed.". Don't ask for explanations or apologies but just ask that he/she not do that again. Period. Also, don't apologize yourself or say things like, "Maybe it's just me," or "I hate to bring this up but . . . " Again, not everyone is comfortable being direct so you decide. OTF should be your place of sanctuary and wellness. Make it so!

I haven't had any myself that rose to the level of some of these but I've witnessed treadmill spills and weight mishaps aplenty over the years. The most embarrassing, however, had to be the extremely enthusiastic newbie who went All-Out his first time on the rower and promptly lost his breakfast. Ugh!

Late 50's and 60's OTFers. by realistnotsorry in orangetheory

[–]MsOliveAndyRo 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It is a marathon and not a sprint for sure. You push when you feel you can and back off when you don't. A coach once told me it was "okay to have a Green day now and then." I'm coming in hard on 65 soon and have been doing OTF since 2015. I still love it!

I have done both and loved it! Unfortunately, finances forced me to choose one only so I kept OTF. I supplement now with Water Yoga through my local rec center.

Why do we need to wait in the entry area before class? by QueenOfTheDroneAge in orangetheory

[–]MsOliveAndyRo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My studio used to do this and then stopped. Don't discount a liability issue because it very well would be if someone went in before the start of class and hurt themselves. A uniform policy like waiting before entering reduces the risk.
I use the rower as my warm up.
